That is cool. What's also amazing is how the different countries have different traditions and how it varies greatly. Some are more lengthy, some are extravagant and some are just plain simple. Thanks for sharing.

No your all wrong. CG stands for the "Ceremonial Guard". I was in it in 79. In 78 it was called the PDD or Public Duties Detachment. Two Regiments take rotations at the Rideau Hall, the Canadian Grenadier Guards from Montreal, and the Governor Generals Foot Guards located in Ottawa.

Summer 08 was the first time ... this is from that summer. Not enough infanteer's to go around at the time. Some naval reserves were called to fill in.

the Canadian grenadiers are reservists, so their members will go on courses or volunteer for tours, when they need to bolster their numbers for events or the summer they draw from other units which sometimes include naval reservists.

I sneaked over to the Grenadier Guards from the Royal Montreal Regiment in 79. Was sick and tired of military courses and classrooms so I decided to have a bit of fun in the sun in the summer of 79 so I joined up the ceremonial guard. Had a great time other then the 57 charges against me (lol) The Feet Guards officers had one hell of a WASP attitude and didn't like any of us from Quebec.

Only in politically correct Canada would we let women wear that uniform and do the change. I just hope to Christ there not pulling a fast one in England and letting women wear this uniform or even a Kilt?

You guys sure have slack assed your drill since 79.

There was none of that bi-lingual politically correct nonsense when I was in either. However, it was the first year that "women" were allowed in the Guard. What a destruction of a great British military tradition having women wear that old uniform. You thought you were looking at a guy with breats!

Fred B. there are women who are part of the British Grenadier Guards in the UK, therefore why would it be wrong in Canada? Also, French and English are both our official languages, and as this is the home of our Queen when she is in Canada and to the Governor General, it only makes sense that both official languages are used... customs and traditions are important, I agree, but the guards are not protecting His Excellency with muskets ... customs do evolve.
