Very smart idea Steve! I love the idea of using the spring to propel the door open as opposed to closed. Nice job Buddy!

Great fix Steve…..that spring will open the gate now….I had the same problem about 10 years ago with the same type of wing wang spring and I just welded both ends and just turned the end until I had enough force and that's what keeps the gate closed at my place….just for looks….CHEERS

How's she gin'? Great idea there Steve to use the spring to open the gate. The nut on the top of the spring was clever too. A lot easier to get the wrench on it now. I made a spring closer like this from a coil spring from a motorcycle front shock and a couple of pieces of angle iron and used it to close a screen door. These types of spring closer/opener are great!!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!

Thanks for the offer bud. So nice to have been of some help . Georgia is only a 20 hour drive but since the border is shut down I suggest you ask the army core of engineers for help . Its American and they do great work and for free too. Just mention Steve Rob sent you :)

Welding that nut on top was a great idea. Turned out nice. I'm liking the idea of the gate opening instead of closing. Be good when you come home with an armload of stuff and your hands are full
@SteveRobReviews4 жыл бұрын
Yes plus on the old gate it was spring loaded as a constant closed and the wind would make the latch constantly rattle compared to the pulling on the latch , no more rattling in the wind.

Of course you bought 2. I had a feeling you would weld it. Good job on the upgrade, and I do like the idea of having the gate open. Might have your hands full and this would make it easier!

Whats the point of a spring if it does not close the gate. It does not make any sense.
@SteveRobReviews3 жыл бұрын
Makes perfect sense for those that want the gate to stay open or stay closed . What does not make sense is not understanding how people could want a gate to be left open . Make sense now ?

Instead of welding a nut, I just take turns tightening a bit with an open-mouth wrench, inserting the shim it came with, taking my wrench off and resetting it, pulling the shim off, and tightening again. It's mildly annoying, but faster than welding a painting a nut onto it haha
@SteveRobReviews Жыл бұрын
Mine is defective thus the welding . The spring slips on the nut that makes the shim useless.

Franky, I see no logic in what you've done. All I could think of is if your hands were full and you needed to have the gate open by itself. But you still need to reach and unlatch it.
@SteveRobReviews3 жыл бұрын
Its all about personal preference because its the same logic as the return spring keeping the gate closed. I'm showing a choice of of using the spring to keep the gate in an open mode . I didn't design the gate for others needs , I designed it for my needs and for me it works great . Cheers

I bought one of the same spring for my garage door and it was a piece of crap! I fussed and fussed with it and finally just gave up. It’s a poor design and I’m not going to go through the effort of welding it or putting a nut on it or whatever. I’m sending it back and getting my money refunded.
