I have bittersweet memories of Yeshiva. I don't think I've ever experienced as much antisemitism as I did in Gateshead -- than anywhere in the world. On the other hand, I never experienced Judaism in its purest form as I did in Gateshead.

jay kaye ( 1st Yes I know my KZbin name is stupid) but I would guess around 1983-85? I am a gentile, but I have worked for our Gateshead Jewish community many times. Mostly recently in the old Swallow Hotel. It's great to hear about your history here in Gateshead.

I was born and bred in Gateshead and went to Whitehall rd school in this same area, we walked past the Jewish schools everyday on our way to and from school, the Jewish children never spoke to us, just ignored us. But I have fond memories of calling into the Jewish deli for fresh bread to share on our way to Saltwell park. I can still imagine the beautiful smell and taste…..

We used to drive through the Jewish area of Gateshead in the 1960s as children and of course knew a lot of Jewish people as children there. This looks like the film was made in the 1950s or 60s from the look of the cars and reminded me of my own childhood (Catholic) in the area. We felt then a huge relief that alone amongst all the nations of Europe the UK had stood strong during the war against the enemy and that we could be rightly proud of our tolerance and how we suffered on their behalf. Yet today everyone says we must be nasty racists because we are white British. How did it come to this? We are instead the best and most tolerant nation on earth.

Hopefully a hypothetical question. What if GB were to go to war with Israel, where doe's British Jews loyalty lay. 🤔
