My Daddy made sour cream pound cakes all the time, he let his cake cool upside down until completely cool before removing the pan. Of course it's the taste that matters. It's difficult downsizing cooking. It's so hard for me to prepare meals for one that's why I make things that freeze well. Have a Blessed weekend.

I do that as well. I only had 3 kids and my husband. It's just my husband and me now. It's difficult because I love cooking and baking. The freezer has really been a food saver.

They sell splash guards for pots and pans. Different sizes available. I use them all the time for my hubby and kids. I am a vegan so there is very little oil in my food. Works great. Keeps all grease in pan or pot. They look like a fine mesh strainer with a handle. They r flat and lightweight. Walmart has them 2 for 11 dollars I think. Have a great weekend.

I tear a sheet of tinfoil and put it over the burners I am not using for frying and try not yo use heat above medium. . It helps keep down the mess, but I know what you mean, frying on a gas stove is a pain. I miss the ease of a glass top cleanup since I got a gas stove, but love,love the way the gas stove heats up. Hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family.

Me and my mother always cook our cakes 50° less than the recipe says especially if the oven tends to run very hot and the darker the pan, it does better at a lower temperature and may get done faster than the recipe says. I am also very generous when greasing the pan with margarine; I’m sure butter would work too. It could be just the finish is worn out on the pan. I hope it eventually works for you. I’ve always heard the ugliest cakes taste best. 😊
@alicewhittington55062 жыл бұрын
Try using bakers friend, it's a spray with oil and flour mixed. Baking especially cakes, you need to make sure all of your measurements are accurate. It's best if your ingredients are room temperature. I used to work at a deli/bakery, and learned the hard way, don't cut corners and take your time.

I was brought up in a household of 9 kids with other kids joining us for dinner frequently . I was taught to cook LARGE. So, when I moved out on my own I didn’t know how to cook small. I’m just now, at the age of 44 getting the swing of cooking with minimal leftovers. (My husband and son really dislike leftovers, I could eat them all week) My mother in-law introduced me to a Mac salad that has sweet pickles in it and it’s the only Mac salad I make now. Have a blessed weekend ♥️

If you don't want your cake to stick, use shortening really well to coat the pan and then flour the pan until you can't see any signs of the pan. It's the only way the cake won't stick. I worked for Der Dutchman and we had to make sure the product didn't stick so it would look good. Turn your cake out when its pretty warm. Good luck!
@julias79202 жыл бұрын
Yes, what Liz said. Every spot needs to be coated. Also, if you are going to run anything around the edge to double check use a narrow silicone spatula. They are better than a knife since they are flexible, but if the pan is well coated that shouldn't even be needed.

I don't like grease from frying either & it leaves a smell lingering in the house for awhile. That's why I prefer bbq or over an open fire... Have my food already for the weekend so I don't have to work.

For my bunt cakes i use alot of butter to coat the pan and then i use flour to also coat pan and let cool for about 10 to 15 minutes. I slowly go with a knife around the pan ensuring that it is not sticking. I am too impaitent to wait until it is completely cool

Our spaghetti box says 8 minutes to reach "al dente", it's whole wheat, yeah... right. It needs to cook for over 15 minutes to be even the slightest bit palatable. Never go with what boxes or packages say. Cook for about 5 to 10 minutes, then use a fork to scoop some out & taste. Chef always knows best! And you know what your family likes. Never do this blindly on what you think might be best... always taste!

HI Amy, if you ever make homemade chicken broth, save those onion tops and bottoms that you sliced off. You can keep a Ziploc in the freezer and just keep adding to it each time you're cutting up an onion. The tops and bottoms flavor the broth beautifully and it's a great use of those end pieces (same with celery and carrots). Strain it all out when the broth is done. Just a tip since everything is getting "through the roof" expensive!! :). I watched another KZbinr doing that this past year and I couldn't believe that I had never thought of it.
