My theory is that every fan really needs 2 ranking lists - 1. Movies that you class as THE best (Serious) 2. The re-watchable movies, (the ones you are likely to stick on whilst sick or on a Sunday afternoon) (Fun) E.g for me my best is Goldeneye, that is that the film i would show first to a friend who had never seen the series before, but I never watch it! If I am ill or want or some fun I am much more likely to watch Tomorrow Never Dies, A View To A Kill or Octopussy...

The reason I believe ranking lists are inaccurate is that they change constantly over time and are never set in stone. At least I know mine certainly do. Sure, films like "Quantum of Solace" and "No Time to Die" will always rank at or near the bottom of every Bond film ranking I do, but many of the other films fluctuate wildly over time, depending on my mood and perspective at the time. For example, "License to Kill" had traditionally always ranked dead last in my rankings for years, until DutchBondFan influenced my opinion and changed my thinking about this particular movie, appreciating it more and seeing it in a new light. That's what KZbin channels like David Zaritsky's, Joe Darlington's and Calvin Dysan's are for: enriching our appreciation for these movies.

I am so pleased to have found you two I eagerly await everything you share with us all. I am sitting in my London UK home surrounded by everything 007 and enjoying your company. I have posted once before that I was taken as a 12 year old by my Dad to see Dr No and from literally the first gunbarrel of them all my life changed forever. I am pleased to say that in the 60: years that have since passed I have always been known as 007 and your considerable knowledge and infectious enthusiasm will always draw me to your channels. I am proud to add as an aside that s.though a few years before me Roger Moore went to my School and my English teacher told us how he was told he would never amount to anything by the Headmaster! I am a bit random with my stories but they are considerable and I will pop them in here and there if I comment again! Great video guys you really are the tops with me. Charismatic guys both of you.

Have listened to Joe for many years. He explained very eloquently why he feels the way he does (really love his reviews with Scott). He has strong opinions for how he feels and it makes being a fan fun. I agree with many of them and disagree with some (NTTD is pretty bad except for a few sections) but he is entitled to like what he likes and not like what he doesn’t. My top films are OHMSS, FRWL and Casino Royale. Craig’s films are a mixed bag, one great, one very good, three meh. Great work, gentlemen.

My ratings changed as I matured. I grew up with Roger Moore, but grew to dislike the campyness as the Dalton and Brosnan movies were released, and especially Craig's. But the biggest impact on my ratings came once I read Fleming's books and saw how closely or badly the films matched the book plots.

Yeah I agree. Personally I don’t rank films by how accurate they are to there book counterparts but when I first started reading the Fleming novels I was shocked how different they were from the films.

Bond ranking lists are probably more fun to put together than any other film franchise, partly because there are so many films in the series and partly because tones and styles can shift so dramatically between the decades in which they're made. I've only ever changed my mind about two Bond movies and they are Man With the Golden Gun and Diamonds Are Forever. Loved them as a child, now I am just too aware of their flaws. I don't hate them. There is entertainment value in them but they rank pretty low down for me. The books were better. In all the other films, I've been pretty consistent in my opinions. Several of the 60's Bond movies have careless editing but that doesn't bother me. OHMSS is still my all time favourite Bond film. The careless edits in that movie don't distract me or spoil my enjoyment. The only real issues I have with any Bond film is in the writing. Whether it's kind of lazy and uninspired like DAF or AVTAK or it lacks basic logic like DAD, which I do find infuriating. Or it comes across as a patchwork quilt of a movie like SPECTRE and No Time to Die thrown together by committee without a consistent, well thought out or executed narrative. Where it feels very much as if they were just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick. And yes, I did clean up that analogy. I also hate the tagged on story arc for those last two Craig movies. Speaking of Craig, I don't even have a favourite Bond actor as I think the actors cast for those films at that particular time were the perfect choice for that era. People like what they like and have their own reasons for liking what they like. I can never convince Joe that Licence to Kill is top tier Bond. Believe me I've tried...More than once. Complete with logical, well reasoned explanations. No...He's not convinced. Although he did concede I made a few good points. Reluctantly, I'm sure. People have their own personal opinions about what a James Bond film should be and that's what makes these debates and rankings such good fun. It's not life or death. There's no reason for anyone to go psycho on it. I don't care that Licence to Kill doesn't do it for Joe Darlington. I don't even care that he ranks No Time to Die so highly. He's wrong...But I don't care that he's wrong. What puts the Bond community above all the other communities is the level of respect most people have for the diverse opinions of others and that in itself should always be celebrated.

I have a much bigger gap in rankings with David than Joe mainly due to really liking Moore beyond his first and not being a huge fan of TND or QOS. The latter is David’s outlier which is interesting how he talks about it. Top 007 1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Spy Who Loved Me 3. OHMSS 4. Goldfinger 5. You Only Live Twice 6. From Russia With Love 7. Casino Royale Bottom 5 - for now 21. Tomorrow Never Dies 22. Spectre 23. Quantum of Solace 24. No Time To Die 25. Die Another Day I suppose if I do another ranking Golden Gun which 20th may fall under TND and one of the Craigs but not sure. Depends on the day. DAD is the only one that is not moving for me.
@fireballfireball6962 Жыл бұрын
Yep Tomorrow Never Dies had a big impact in the cinema. When they said White Knight it made clear Bond is the hero and he beat all the baddies at the beginnning and saved the day. And this all happens before the opening titles and it made you feel good and looking forward to the movie. He doesnt do that at the beginning of Goldeneye or TWINN and in Die Another Day he loses at the beginning.

since taking over as scriptwriters, Wade and Purvis have sent the Bond movie's down the toilet. As next year sees the last Mission Impossible flick, maybe Eon could throw some of that money they pumped into Craig and hire McQ to write and Direct.

Looking at the comments on any Bond ranking video is amazing with the number of people who get upset/angry and feel the need to correct everyone . The idea that you cannot be a true fan if you don't have this film at number one or that film at the bottom of your list as if there is some official higher authority passed the official ranking. These are not objective lists. Its personal preference. It doesnt mean you think these are objectively the best movies. It is perfectly possible to acknowledge that between 2 movies, one may be objectively the better movie but you may find more entertainment value and therefore get more rewatchability out of the other. Therefore, of course, you would rank that film higher in your personal list. You can have a realistic, gritty, well-made movie that does not engage or connect with you. You can also have a realistic gritty, well-made movie movie that also engages and thoroughly entertains you. On the other hand, you can have a ridiculous spoofy movie, which you absolutely hate because of its silliness but then you may have a similar movie that you enjoy either because of a guilty pleasure or because of something within the film that you connected with for personal reasons.

The rankings for each and every one of us will be completely unique and customed to our own tastes at any given moment. So there is no right or wrong. There would likely be no lists of ours that are the same- as Joe says, it's almost impossible! As Bond fans, we all probably love ALL of the movies. But if we MUST rank them, some will be above others for various reasons - but it's no big deal! And definitely- NOBODY should be mad about any of them lol! HOWEVER... To me, No Time to Die is a different story lol! That Movie looks beautiful, is well made, well acted and adds more emotion and depth than any other movie in the series by far... But they kill Blofeld....they kill Felix Leiter....and they kill JAMES BOND. So that movie MUST be PUNISHED by putting it at or near the bottom of our lists!

I would suggest it would be better to rank the films by era…and by that I mean by actor. Each actor brought something different and tapped into a certain zeitgeist. For instance, a light hearted Moore era is very different then the sullen Craig era. By the way, you should see Godzilla fans try this! Those movies range from allegories of atomic bombs to shows targeting kids.
