Just in case anyone would like to know. Here's a tidbit of information for ya. The only reason there are so many buildings left standing in town is due to the local fire company's. There main objective was to protect downtown at all costs. That is why there are still buildings left to see/be in, in town at all. Downtown is what's known as the County Seat. i.e. Gatlinburg. Most definitely give a huge amount of props to them and fire rescue workers. Meanwhile, while the homes and woods were raging on fire in the Chalet village, there was one person who kept going back through the police line and up the hill to rescue residents. He is a gentleman who owns a local taxi company there and is also a semi pro wrestler. Look him up in other videos. His first name is Vinnie. Cant remember his last name though. Also his wrestling partner was running around town telling people to get out. The fire dept. was too busy with town to even think about going up there. That's where all of the other departments came in handy. Also the Oslo? village sustained 0 damage due to the fact that they fired up the snow machines and slathered the hills with it.. One big slab of snow/ice to melt and put it out. They knew it was coming and decided it best to take that course of action.. Kudos for them.

I already know this. I am a retired fire fighter and understand that commerce comes before personal property. i.e. Downtown was saved while homes burned. And like I said. Many props to the local fire company for their efforts. And many more to the fire company's tat came in to help from all over..

Some of these FIRE FIGHTERS lost their homes as well while they were trying to save lives and put out these FIRES. Please continue to pray for the city of Gatlinburg,TN. I truly hate that some wreckless teenagers started the fire up in the Chimney Tops. 14 people have lost their lives and these families will forever be changed by this TRAGEDY...😢

***** Look up more videos from the fire and you will eventually run across him and his buddy. Both of them are semi pro wrestlers in Tennessee. And this month they have a match scheduled and all proceeds are going to help the victims of this.

But where are those people living now that the apartments they were living in were burnt to the ground? That is what I was getting at. You should read the story I posted below about it.
@DominionRaids
@DominionRaids 7 жыл бұрын
Bat Cakes most of them are living in the hotels that haven't burnt , temporary housing/shelter , or with family or with strangers who have opened there homes to them. If the article says anything different then maybe you should ask a person from the area because you can't believe everything posted in newspapers or the on the internet. There are very few people left without homes aka a place to stay until they rebuild. Rebuilding is starting off slow due to the vast amount of insurance claims going through at the same time. And those that didn't have insurance and can't afford to rebuild there are some fundraisers to either help them start rebuilding or to find a new place.

I am a resident of gatlinburg, and still to this day it is heartbreaking watching this! I was one of the lucky few to keep their home but I was very close to losing it! I can still recall that night and how horrified I was leaving my home and trying to escape while all this is going on! I just want to say that I still have all those who were affected in my heart! And even those who are still looking for a place to call home! God bless you guys and we will always remain mountain strong!

The boys were hiking on the Chimney Tops trail in the park on Nov. 23 and tossing lit matches onto the ground around the trail, the sources said. A hiker unwittingly captured an image of the boys walking away from the trail with smoke in the background, and the teenagers' clothing helped authorities identify them, according to sources.

My heart broke when, via your video, it was confirmed that the first motel that my family stayed at in Gatlinburg back in the 1960s burned to the ground. In another, local to Gatlinburg, provider's video I saw the SECOND family owned motel we stayed in several years later AND that I stayed in as an adult in the 199os had also burned to the ground. I hope with all my heart that those responsible for setting the fires will be punished for the crimes of arson and murder.

I live 300 miles away and this devastates even me so I can't imagine what the folks directly affected by this tragedy is going through. First and foremost my heart goes out to the families and friends of the 14 people lost and to all those who lost homes and businesses. Secondly the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area means so much to so many and to see these beautiful mountains burned and the destruction really saddens me. I'm 44 and my memories go back to when I was 12. I know in time these people will rebuild and the mountains will recover and my family and I definitely plan on doing our small, minute part in helping make that happen by visiting multiple times this year. Carpetbagger, I have not "met" you or known of your videos until today. I normally don't look at YT unless I'm trying to figure out how to do something. I don't really know how I got here except that I have been researching recently the fires of Nov. '16 and found a video about Fun Mountain which I cannot place even when it was operational. Nonetheless, just know that I feel fortunate that I came upon this video. I am a long-time visitor to Gatlinburg since childhood, the early 70's. My parents took us to PC Beach in the summer and to G'Burg in the Fall or Winter.When I got married, I introduced my husband and subsequently our children to Gatlinburg. I cannot express how deeply appreciative I am of this video. There may be others but the info I was getting from news outlets was lousy in providing the info I was looking for. I have always felt a personal connection with Gatlinburg, the town, the back roads, shortcuts. I always felt like I was back in a simpler time where I could really appreciate the beauty of nature, the quiet, wildlife, the life of the settlers, and traditions of the people. A place to truly rest my mind. I cried and cried the night of the fires. Watching the news, I felt hopeless at the prospect of what was to come. All of the thousands of pictures in my house of the sky lift, Halloween pumpkins in the Village, Christmas parades, my skiing for the first time on a 9th grade field trip, my sons snowboarding for the first time, wading in Little Pigeon River, and building a snowman, putting it on top of my father's car and driving through the town. The burned out building at 15:40 was the Riverhouse Motor Lodge, our favorite place to stay since childhood. I recently learned of its demise and couldn't believe that this happened being so close to the town. I could be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the "castle" was situated high on the mountain somewhat behind what used to be Howard Johnson's.This is going way back, but as kids and teens, we use to walk up to that home and investigate because we had never seen anything like it. I always said I would live there one day LOL. Please do not question yourself or your authenticity regarding the making of your video. I know my comments will be terribly uninteresting to others reading here, But I took everything you said exactly as it was meant because I could feel your sincerity and sadness at the events that happened to a special place that actually connects you and me and millions of others who have stories to tell. This video was respectfully done and helped me learn a great deal of the tragedy since I haven't been able to get back there in a couple of years due to job losses. You gave better, more informative, personally-felt info than any news accounts I've read. This means more to most folks - someone who is willing to give of his time so that those who can't be there can still be kept up-to-date. A job well done. Prayers are with those who lost lives and property. God will renew your spirits and His Great Smoky Mountains!

Not to bring painful memories back up two years later, but just got home from a few days in Gatlinburg. Stayed at the Summit Mountain Top. That area was badly hit, but you see very little evidence. My real reason for posting this was to give an heart felt thank you to the GFD and I will assume surrounding fire crews who saved likely countless lives and this beautiful an amazing town. Tim I am so sorry this happened to you. I am praying for you. The teens who set the fire deserve to spend the rest of their life in prison.

I hate hoaxes. Wonder if those children who started it have 8 bazillion to cover the damages.

Thank you The Carpetbagger. I went to Gatlinburg many years ago. Its sad to see this kind of destruction. I watched that video you mentioned with the guy driving through the fire and it was the scariest thing I've ever seen.

I went to Gatlinburg in 2006 and man I loved it so much. Very beautiful city and the people are nice, it saddened me when I heard about this fire and the fact people lost their lives because of these kids. I hope the people of Gatlinburg will recover soon.

Thank you Carpetbagger for a well done video of the areas of destruction in Gatlinburg. We are very fond of the area and visit sometime a couple of times a year, we were married there 24 years ago this coming March. Unfortunately, the pastor that married us, Ed Taylor, was a victim of the fires. Thank you again for your video, keep up the good work!

A year later in Gatlinburg; It actually wasn’t a wildfire. It was caused by kids who couldn’t put a fire out so they ran away and just left it to spread without calling anyone.

I lost 3 timeshare units high up on the mountain at Westgate. But many, including Westgate employees, lost their one and only home. Worse still, at least 14 lives were lost (in one family, 4 out of 5 died!!!) in this unspeakable tragedy. The BEST thing we can do, besides giving of our time, talents, and what money we can give, is to KEEP COMING BACK to Gatlinburg! Support the lovely town that has given us so many years of pleasure! Don't let them down!

This town is in an amazing part of the country. Such a sad thing to be happening, especially to these nice people. I have many fond memories of this area as do so many other people.

I was there during the fires. My family was in Gatlinburg on a trip. We were going to our cabin and about halfway there we saw smoke on a mountain. We thought it was someone having a barbecue. When we got closer to our cabin, we could feel heat. We saw that a hill was blazing. We got to our cabin, packed everything, and booked it. It was the most terrifying experience I've ever had in my life.

Thank you so much for this video. You did a great job. So sorry for those who were affected by that fire and have to come back from the devastation. God bless Dolly and all those who are helping them to recover. This was the first video I've ever seen of yours. Again, thank you.
