I don't see India winning at Melbourne. The worst thing that happened in this game was Jadeja scoring runs as this confirms his inclusion for the Boxing Day test. Ashwin is the better bowler for the remaining two tests but he's retired. Simply put, I don't see India having the bowling attack to take 20 aussie wickets. Gavaskar, why don't you tell emphatically that Ashwin has been irrefutably India's greatest match winner for more than a decade. He won 11 man of series award by playing in 106 tests and 41 series. Murali has also won 11 awards by playing 133 tests and 61 series. Nobody has won more than 8. God of cricket Sachin has played in 200 tests and 74 series and won 5 man of series award. They say cricket is a batsmen game. Century is exulted much more than a 5 wicket haul. Don't you think that Ashwin deserves greater accolades with more spontaneity from a legend like you? He is a greater asset to Indian cricket than anybody since 2011.

Sundar is there right. He was preferred over Ashwin in First test. Also, Jadeja is first spinner- all-rounder. So team can play them both. Every player is within their right to retire whenever they want.

I was looking at R Ashwin’s TEST statistics. My mind was blown. He has as many five wicket hauls as Shane Warne (the second highest in all cricketing history). But here’s the catch - Ashwin’s haul (equaling Warne) came at an astonishing strike rate of 50.73, average of 24, and he did this playing only about 66% the number of tests that Shane Warne has. That means he is a way better bowler than even Shane Warne and Muralitharan who were blessed with long careers. India has produced a long lineage of engineer spinners from the south (“Madrasi engineers” they’re called in the cricketing fraternity). Ashwin is a phenomenally technical bowler, a thinking mind and his stats don’t lie. There is something glorious about his career, he is not just another spinner that wore a jersey and played for India. It’s sad to see him go in this manner. May be he was upset over the selection process. We won’t know exactly what happened until he speaks up, and if he ever does.
