Inspired to write this after getting stuck in a traffic jam for several hours on the M25 outside London, I’m so glad you covered the whole song including the beautiful bluesy opening. Gotta say guys I’ve watched tons of your reactions and this for me is your best! If you wanna carry on down the Chris Rea rabbit hole then I’d highly recommend Looking for a Rainbow. Or being Americans the track Texas might hit the right note. For the record Mr Rea is the best slide guitarist I’ve seen live. He was simply amazing.

@@lvthud I have seen so many vids saying Mark Knopfler and Dave Gilmour are underrated, which they are NOT and have sold the tickets and albums to prove it. I would say you're correct about our man Rea. No one who can handle a slide on a strat doubted his abilities and no one with a desire to sing blues ever doubted his cheese grater and double smoked voice. So he's not underrated. Chris always wanted to be a rock star but never ever saw himself as one and always thought he had a terrible voice and through the last few years has genuinely gone through hell with regards his health and in this modern day is almost unrecognisable from his days of the 1980’s when “Road To Hell” was first penned. Crikey not heard this song for years! Such a banger! On the album it's actually split in to two parts, the slow really bluesy part and the faster more rocking part. He has a great voice and skills on the slide guitar, and so much in his back catalogue you'll love if you love this. Stainsby Girls is definitely a start (it's written as a tribute to his now wife who went to Stainsby School in his native Middlesborough).

Thank you for that! You would love a song on the same album called Texas. Born and raised and my favorite song ever about Texas. An Englishman singing about Texas. It's so good. It just puts me in a trance I can't do anything but smile. After I finish this comment, I'm gonna listen to it several, several times. He's one helluva guitar player. Man I really loved this morphine to my soul. May God continue to bless and protect your beautiful family!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I'd never heard of this guy until I was working in a record store in the late 80s, we got this promo album in. When we played it in the store, you just couldn't ignore this song, it was so strong. Plus, it sounds like he lifted every lick Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) ever played.

Espresso Logic is the title track of one of my favourite albums of his. Some properly rocky ,bluesy tracks on here. Chris has been through some horrific health problems but still retains his unassuming, dry sense of humour. He has moved recently to more blues music and his voice has , if anything, become deeper and richer. A huge amount of music to take a deep dive into. I love watching you two and your delight in finding new music. You are a lovely couple and always put a smile on my face. Thank you and keep it up!

I agree. I hear a blend of voices. I hear Leonard Cohen, Robert Palmer, and Mark Knopfler. His guitar blues style also is reminiscent of Knopfler's for me as well or I'll say vice versa. "Tones" and "Ah Via Musicum" are my faves of his. He would regularly play concerts at a local stage every Thanksgiving weekend in the early 90's!! I miss those days.

My favourite Chris Rea album is "Dancing With Strangers" - every track is top notch (no filler unlike most of his studio albums) and even the deluxe edition released a while back had some pretty good bonus tracks. Chris Rea's slide guitar playing is the real star here - you might want to check out the sequel to this as well, predictably titled "The Road To Hell Pt. 2".
