Chris Rea wrote the best part of this song when he was on the actual "road to hell" which is the infamous ring road around London, the M25. If anyone's ever been on it at busy times, you'll understand what he means. I have been on that particular road too many times to mention!

Chris is such a great slide player alone let alone his normal picking its not true, and his gritty voice is so distinctive, a world-class act and great live too. His love songs are superb like 'September Blue' from his platinum album 'Dancing with Strangers', not just the rockers like 'Stainsby Girls'. His tone is like Knopflers in places.

Looking For the Summer and Curse of the Traveller fight in my mind for 'best Chris Rea song'. At the moment Traveller is winning but come March or April and I'm looking for the summer for real, I think they'll switch places. I don't know any other writer who manages to conjure up the heat and the haze and the lazy lustfulness of summer quite the way Chris does. Those first three songs on 'On The Beach' just take me to another place.

Chris Rea has a large catalogue of albums dating back to 1973 with 'Whatever Happened to Beni Santini'. I prefer his earlier albums, Dancing with Strangers, Shamrock Diaries, On the Beach & Wired to the Moon. Later he started tapping into his love of Blues Music. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2001, The Road To Hell singer had his pancreas removed, leaving him with diabetes. He has also had his duodenum taken out, all of which has left him living on a cocktail of medication something like 35 pills a day to keep him alive.
@markharris1125
@markharris1125 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, definitely Diaries, Beach and Strangers are the best, but there's a lot of good later stuff too. Yes, I have listened to every single album in the Blue Guitars set, and there are some gems in there. He tries to stick to the formula of the blues style of the album, but sometimes he finds one of those catchy Rea hooks and off he goes.
@gershman23
@gershman23 2 ай бұрын
I like his early albums as well, but I prefer his late 80's to mid 90's outings; specifically the trio of "The Road to Hell", "Auberge", and "God's great banana skin", none of them is Blues proper. (of course, he's always Blues-inspired, and in fact I remember reading in some review that Chris Rea found the way to fuse Blues and Danceable Rock into his own especial cocktail, I found that conclusion to have some gravitas). In addition to these 3, I love his 88 sort-of compilation "New Light Through Old Windows", in which he re-recorded all the hits from his earlier albums, and they all sound far better than the originals.

The utterly absolutely fantastic Chris Rea probably the most underrated pop star in the UK. Chris always wanted to be one of the big superstar singer/songwriters of his time but he was a very modest man and in his recent years has not had the best of health and is almost unrecognisable from his great days of the 1980’s. But for me it’s Chris’s voice that has the edge on many of his great songs.

I have followed and seen Chris Rea many times over his incredible career, as a superbly talented singer/songwriter and performer on many instruments including keyboards. This song was put together when on his way to London Heathrow airport, his limousine was stuck in gridlock on the Motorway in appaling weather. The basics were there in less than 30 minutes. An absolute classic. Chris also released a box set titled ' Blue Guitars'., around 2004 included some 132 new original tracks, spread over 11 albums and each one in a different Style, from Blues to rock and everything in between. He also designed the artwork on each cover, all being released in one day as one boxed set. Incredible artist and a superb musician.

My brother turned me on to Chris rea years ago, I'd never heard of him. After listening, I thought why isn't he more well known? Crazy.

I think you might be the first ones to react to Chris Rhea. Funny, yesterday I recommended this song to another channel. You probably will be introducing Chris Rhea to a lot of older people too. Now i I could get somebody to react to "On the Dark Side" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.

I know, Jack - I keep recommending Chris in the comments of every reaction channel and no one picks it up. I was beginning to wonder if he or his record label were especially strict and just stamped out any reaction. Often these songs spread around the reactor community so I'm hoping this has opened the flood gates! Such a brilliant artist. It's a big regret that I've never seen him live, and probably never will now.
