When I was skating' in the late 80's / early 90's, they were always playing hip hop at skate demos. I remember I saw the Mike Mcgill and Tony Hawk skating vert to songs like "Follow The Leader" EricB and Rakim. Definite parallels to skate and hip hop.

Hip hop, punk and skating have very similar foundations, in terms of the type of situations and contexts birthed each culture. Finding a way of unfiltered self expression and freedom in a world of rules and regulations, suppression and 'legitimate' crime carried out by the governments that rule over us. They each created a world where you gain acceptance from being different, and by being YOU, not what some system wants you to be.

the parallels between skating and hip hop run deep.the way corporate media is trying to take over and dilute the truth, and true spirits of these arts.both blew up in the 70s and 80s, to getting enormous in the 90s, later to be infiltrated by greedy corporations who want to sell you their idea of what we love is.ive been into hip hop and skating for 30 years, support the real shit, buy local , and try to pass on to the younger generations the real and not the manufactured.peace!
