Im a Londoner, just to point out it is not always raining. We have droughts in the Summer and a fact is Rome has more rain in a year than London!! Also not every person goes to pubs and certainly not every night as you mentioned.

You have no idea what a drought is, mate. You have water shortages due to bad water management. A drought is when you have no rain for years on end . Not a few days or a few short weeks. I used to live in Africa , now in the Uk 26 years and I can assure you the UK does not get droughts , regardless of what the media tells you..

Very interesting. I spent a lot of time in London (about 20 years) and worked at London Gay and Lesbian Switchboard for half that time, talking to people who often wanted to get out and find the right person: I was training officer at the time and switchboard was the biggest gay /lesbian organisation in the world and operated 7/24 hrs from pokey rooms above a newsagent in Angel. What we were confronted with was a plethora of pubs, clubs and saunas which weren't necessarily appropriate for a lot of gay folk. Today the internet provides much more option for them and my guess is that the pub club scene as in Sydney where I live is more appropriate for tourists.
