What tropes in gay movies do you like, want to see more of, dislike, and/or want to see less of? I’m interested in what you guys have to say!

I kinda dislike the trope of the shorter guy in the gay relationship being the bottom and the more feminine one. I know those people exist (cuz I am one lmao 💀) but being short/smaller doesn't inherently make someone feminine and submissive

One movie I’d recommend is Maurice. It was set in the Edwardian period and had a surprisingly not sad ending. (I shall not spoil)

If you fancy some good ace (but not aro ) screen time I'd recommend Slow, I saw it at the cinema and maaaan, made me cry lil happy tears :')

They Both Die At The End destroyed me but i loved it (not a movie but a book so idk)

I recently watched a japanese movie called Monster (2023), and I can honestly say it's probably my favourite movie ever. I HIGHLY recommend it, especially without reading anything about it before watching! It has a bittersweet/open(?) ending but it's ABSOLUTELY worth the watch ❤

There is a movie called Close it’s so so sad but so beautiful it makes me cry because it’s to real you get if you get😪😪😪 If you want a movie to cry about and it’s French and Dutch soo it sounds soo saddd AAAAAAAAAAAA

OMG !!!! Polish movie mention !!!!! I love happy endings too! When I now that movie is going to end bad, I'll never watch it because I'm ALWAYS craing😭 (I just want them to be happy!!!!)

It does feel off when the 'problem' of the story is being gay/queer and that's a doom or disruption of happiness. Or being queer is not fully actualized (temporary, an affair, called off, etc) and thus delegitimized. Not that the tropes you listed are absolutely off-limits, but it's pretty common for them to have that as the narrative. (Btw, respectfully, a bit difficult to hear you sometimes, the music was louder than your voice.)

I relate to a lot of these, but I also loveee huge age gaps. I didn't always, but I even love them in straight relationships too 🤷🏿

I really dislike love triangles (or angles, istg nobody does a love triangle right) or toxic ex. I generally dislike these tropes cuz they are just there to add unnecessary drama to the plot and is used to stretch out the story as well. If done right, then it is fine, for example in the show "We Are," (Thai BL) there is a love angle that happens and pushes the Love Interest's boundaries which advances the plot.
