Gay Short Film - Wherever You Are

‘Wherever You Are’ is a short film taking LGBT characters down a different track. Exploring the relationship between a father and son, the short film tells the story of a father crippled with grief, yet longing to do something for his son.
The short film was produced entirely through crowdfunding and held it’s international premiere at the Shropshire Rainbow Film Festival in October, 2016.

I've one heck of a lump in my throat right now and caught a big sobbing sigh I think they could hear in the other room. He didn't find the boyfriend, but he found that his precious son had loved and been loved. I'm sure it broke his heart not only that his son didn't have the confidence of his father's unconditional love to come out to him, but that he didn't get to witness and share his son's happiness. I wish John had met the boyfriend. He never got to truly know his son completely and I'd bet anything that what's eating away at him. Meeting the boyfriend, talking to someone who also shared his son's love would have meant closure for him. And yet he doesn't get to. He wanders alone looking for something he may never get. And that really breaks my heart.

Maybe he did meet him without knowing. Either way I liked the ending. Open but closed. When the dad saw the note he realized that the boyfriend knows about Paul’s death. As he sat down on the bench I saw him finally mourn the loss of his boy. From my point of view his search to find and inform the boyfriend about Paul’s passing, wasn’t really about finding the guy, it was more a way for him to show Paul wherever he is that he accepts and loves him. A way of having that conversation they both were robbed of, because of his untimely death. Very well made! ♥️

What an excellent and well done film ! How my heart aches for this father and how I so much wanted him to find his son alive and ok. BUT the story I suppose is a metaphor for so many kids that for one reason or another leave home and as life goes on there is no resolution in their lives because of misunderstandings and differences. Gay kids can really be subject to this dislocation and this film is a cautionary story to parents and kids to see, to think, to ponder what life is really about...... LOVE ! As to the 64 thumbs down I could not understand that in a film so well done ! Then I realized that perhaps the sadness of this story may have caused this. So many levels to evaluate film. Thank you for posting this gem!

To me this can also serve as a salutary warning about regret and judgement. The young man appeared to be 19 when he died. The father uses the term sneaking off. The father also seems to be focused on a much earlier time in the boys life maybe a time of innocence and non-judgement he finds easier to deal with. Thank you for an open and poignant peace that has triggered me looking once again at my own judgement of others and maybe actions that can lead to regret.

Not perfect, but you got a lot of things right. The flashback imagery was really good. That's how you remember people who have passed...glimpses, the feeling of someone resting against you when they are sleeping, laughing together. Loss is excruciating. I honestly don't think I could survive losing a child.

I get that the father sees the note that Paul's lover wrote and put on the grave, so the father realizes that the boyfriend already knows Paul is dead. I guess also he feels happy that Paul's last few moths were full of love. Very nice, music and cut shots and suspense. Acting was a little stiff, but what the heck! I still really liked it.

❤💛🧡💚💙💜🤎🖤 True Story: there was a shooting at a gay club in my town. Many gay couples, bfs and local gays were murdered. Many of them were not out or did not tell their families they went out or who they were with that night. Most them didn't have ids on them so it took days for the police/hospital to identify them. It was heartbreaking 💔😢!! This movie reminds me of the parents/families that were looking for answers after being told their son/relative/bf had died in the shooting. It was so sad seeing all these mothers/fathers crying out for help and answers. The most memorable was the single mom, crying out on the news holding two pictures, 1 of her son and 1 of his newly engaged fiance. They went out that night to celebrate wth friends but never came home. This is a true story, because I lived to tell it....

Well done. I'd just like to see more LGBT movies which encourage and uplift. For decades it seems like 90% of the gay-themed movies we've seen end in tragedy, or portray gays who are living 'happy' lives until they try to accept their true sexual identity, after which all hell breaks loose. Is it too much to ask for film-makers to at least give gays a happy ending, even if they have to suffer a bit getting there? Maybe it's just too easy to make a "dramatic" film if you can lean on misery and heartbreak.

Very sad movie. Many people disappear from our lives and we just never know. We never know. I'm sure that I lost a lot of them during the AIDS epidemic. I just never heard from them again and I never knew. I still don't know. People just seemed to just go away. No too many understand our deep hurt inside that we try to block with laughter. Inside many of us a grieving for the ones we have lost. Growing older and fearing to make any great friendships. We fear the facing of heartbreak all over again. All the faces in our memories that we will never see again. No one really left to weep when I die.

Piri Gonzalez - I used to have an old Rolodex, just cards w names, numbers and addresses filed alphabetically. Back in the 80’s when AIDS was a death sentence, I would sometimes find myself with too many funerals to go to on the weekends and have to pick which ones I would attend. Then one day I realized that my Rolodex was becoming empty as the years passed. I had a habit of moving the cards of those that passed to the back, sort of my way of remembering them, I didn’t want to just throw the cards away. All of the black letter dividers were towards the front and the back was full. When I later transferred the addresses to a computer I counted them, I’d lost over, well over 200 friends. Thinking of them, they seemed to be the best of us, the brightest, the best looking, the most friendly. I just wanted to say you aren’t alone, there are others who have lost friends and acquaintances. My heart is with you.

I enjoyed this movie very much. Its well done and takes a different approach to relationships of this kind and makes one think about things we take for granted in a relationship and how we can't turn back the clock and do things differently. And that life is not neat and tidy without loose ends so we need to do and say the things we should to those we care about. My only confusion is at the end with the note and rose by the grave. The note at the grave was on white paper torn from a wire bound notebook but Paul's boyfriend was writing on yellow paper in a pad and signed 'wherever you are'. So who was that note from at the grave? From Adrian?

I appreciate the incredible caring for the theme and the quality of the film, but there were so many possibilities for what was going on especially towards the end that suddenly it did not feel grounded to me, i.e. no clear picture even with the hints that are given, or at least hints that are hinted at but never shown clearly. Still, beautifully done. I wanted a resolve that was clear and left no room for interpretation after such an arduous search. For the dad it was real, but for the observer, the end was just too fluid. Not that it wasn't good or believable, not that dad wasn't satisfied or at peace which in some ways that is all that matters, While his goal to find was completed, to meet this person would still be pressing on any ordinary father. I believe he followed through after this. I would. .

OF COURSE HE DID. And I would think the surviving partner of the deceased would want to meet the father if he knew how hard the father had looked for him. Just knowing his partner's father was looking for him would be a gift.Any father who tried to do what he did merits a shared time with his son's partner. Dad's search evidenced the kind of man he was.... for sure. How many partner's fathers are not actively in their son's lives? Quite a few.

A really sweet and well-filmed story, but the real mystery seems to allude me. The son just disappeared - ran away from home! I'm not seeing any signs of this being a LGBT film, here. As always with the English, the diction was fine, but subtitles would have helped a bit. In the end, it is the story of a loving father who lost his son. Sad - but normal, not gay.
