I did get down and dirty yesterday! I made 3 Tim Holtz accordian folios for Halloween! They are young, so we are talking smiling ghosts, candy stickers, nothing that goes bump in the night! But I was in my craft room from 6am through 3pm. SUCH fun!! I hope the little ones like them. There are tags for writing, so they can see how they wrote when young. Pictues of family so they can write on the back of the photos. Just memories! Great time and I was watching re-runs of your shows! So we all benefited! LOL!

Love watching you make several kinds of covers. Always a good refresher or brings back ideas for covers we may have forgotten about. I’ve been a quilter for almost 50 yrs so in regards to ripping fabric - ripping follows the straight of the grain, so if ripping, always rip bigger than you want. We get our fabric cut at shops with scissors and most times it doesn’t follow the straight of the grain. For making covers with no waste, I cut out with scissors or rotary cutter. I would also check out Joanns for heavy duty canvas. Thank you always for your inspiration❤

Fabulous, Gayle. I'm always in need of inspiration for covers and this hit all the right notes! Love your singing interludes it just feels so 'cosy' and relaxed. I've never considered canvas before, so there goes another thing on my list to keep an eye out for. You should totally approach the tent maker for scraps. I have a local upholster who supplies me with leather and vinyl scraps for free. Most are more than big enough for a cover. ❤ Belinda xxx

Good Monday morning. It’s a beautiful cool morning in Georgia. So ready for Christmas journal’s & definitely need covers since I have zero. If you don’t like where the bird was on that piece of fabric because it would be on the back & you want it on the front, just cut it into two pieces & reverse it. The cut would be in the middle which doesn’t show or cut a strip piece of fabric to cover the cut edges. Just an idea. The canvas covers look great. The one you started with Santas is gorgeous. 💕

One of the first covers I made was following your steps for this type of cover. At the time I cut the canvas out of a frame (I get canvases when they are on sale). Since then I’ve used the drop cloth (duck cloth). I prefer the canvas, but both work. If I’m using a canvas that has gesso I use a canvas colored paint instead of gesso for a similar look. BTW the first one I made has squirrels. 😁

I just finished a painted canvas journal. It was so funny to work with, especially sewing in the signatures because it was like working with rubber 😂. It turned out super cute though…. if I can say that about my own work 😂. The canvas was a primed sheet from a pad.

Harbor Freight has painters tarps in a natural canvas color and last time I looked they were a bit cheaper than Lowe’s or Home Depot. I’ve used them ever since I saw you use the one you have, lol! Thanks Dear Lady, have a wonderful day! ❤

I just mod Podge the napkins. You could add more napkins to the back if you want, but I generally just decorate the front cover. 👍❤

I’m glad someone explained the origin of the skin a cat phrase. I grew up with the phrase but always felt guilty about saying it because kittens are my favorite house mate. The cover technique turned out so cute. Santas are the best.

A bit off topic but I have searching for tutorials on making journals where the signatures are not sewn in but they can be removed and replaced. I was told they are called Travelers Journals but it looks as though your videos have the signatures sewn in? I am so confused... please help!

Check out Midori books for non sewn in sigs. Elastic cords can accomodate various ways to insert the pages. I regard TN’s as those that are tall and narrow sort of like the aspect ratio of airline tickets and will hold a passport. Journal maker artisans of these often employ artistic license. ☺️
