This past week, the world has reflected on the death of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. As Nixon's national security advisor, he was notorious for his ultra-realist approach to international politics, which saw the policy of triangulation with China and the Soviet Union that was pivotal in bringing China into the Western sphere and ultimately helping the emerging economy become a global power. But also the carpet bombing of Laos and Cambodia, in a failed attempt to solicit concessions from the North Vietnamese. Such unscrupulous foreign policy is again on display over Gaza. The silence with which the Western powers have embraced the slaughter and the tacit, if not open, approval of Israel's behaviour evokes a long-standing memory in the global south about a racist colonial logic. Today, we would like to explore this with our very own elder statesman', Dr Mahathir Mohamed.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been Malaysia's longest-serving prime minister for some 22 years. He has stewarded Malaysia through a difficult period; today it is a thriving economy. He came back to power briefly after winning a resounding victory in 2018. Dr Mahathir has seen first-hand in his 98 years the rise of America and the establishment of Israel, but also the sorry state of much of our ummah - and today, we would like to tap into his extensive knowledge and wisdom.

Chinese are not with the same intentions as the Americans! Chinese love peace and prosperity for all,not violence and ignorance. China,North Korea and Russia will be the West's suicide, its the Malhamma, who else has so much militairy nuclear power to kill eachother for such big % like mentioned in Islam. Chinese,North Koreans and Russians will rather sacrifice themselves then to bend their knee to the oppressors again..no more humiliation for the Chinese,North Koreans and Russians! When the zionist flourish from Jerusalem, look at Yathrib..if Yathrib falls the Malhamma will come!

Good view by Dr mohammad overall, but when it comes to Islamic hegemonism very selective view. Dr Mohammad should realize that Islam conquered very much the same way that the Romans once conquered. Just like the Europeans did after them. It is not very far fetched to think, that being close to Europe and seeing the use of Christianity to justify conquests the group of people who created Islam used all sorts of fairy tales to justify what they wanted to create as a conquering, hegemonistic, and rigid idealogy which all have to accept, without anyone allowed to challenge it.

Beloved only by his own kind (Racist and bigoted people)! The minority ethnic Chinese, Indians, Buddhist, Christians, Hindus, and others whom he called IMMIGRANTS (pendatang) even though they were born and grew up in Malaysia and whose ancestors have been in Malaysia for hundreds of years would beg to differ! No way would they think of him as Beloved. Many of them have migrated overseas, and quite a number of them are in neighbouring Singapore. Go and talk to them and ask what they think of this Racist and Bigot Dr Mahathir! Nuff said.

Totally agreed on his advice that muslims should be reading Quran translation in the language that one understands. As a non-Arabic speaker born Muslim, I too realised the lack of emphasis in our culture (Malaysian in particular) on reading the translation. Malaysia bukanlah asalnya negara yg miskin..

If I may elaborate on the last advice to his 18 years old self, The ummah must have a mindset of that Muslims must rule or lead the world. That this current period is only a brief gloomy phase with the abolishment of the caliphate is the lowest point. The ummah must believe that the Muslim world will rised once again. Thus, each and every Muslim must learn and correct their understanding about Islam. We must put Islam in every aspect of our life, either socialising, muamalah, economy, politics and etc. We doing this with in the back of our mind just to pleased Allah and get His blessing so at the end of the day we will enter Jannah, Insya Allah. In our current modern day, if you want to look the purest Imaan, look at the people of Gaza. They have shown us despite their hardships and tribulations they can still smile and positive to Allah. Their lips only about "Alhamdulillah", "Masya Allah", "Hasbunallah wanikmal wakil", "syahid" and so on. We should really follow them. May Allah bless all the people in Gaza. May Allah reward those who stand and support the people in Gaza. May Allah liberate Gaza and free Al-Quds. A 2 cents from your brother in Malaysia🇲🇾

The Arab oil countries are busy investing in the West, football clubs and iconic stores like Harrods instead of investing in Muslim countries. The oil money is wasted, the West would never do this if the had oil like Saudi Qatar and UAE.

Your information is inaccurate, For your information, many Islamic countries depend on oil countries directly and indirectly, and without them, their economies would have collapsed, such as employing Muslims, donations, aid, loans and grants, as well as supporting the countries’ treasuries, supporting central banks, investments, etc. On the other hand, historically, when the countries of the Arabian Peninsula were poor, we did not see economic support from Islamic countries, and many Arabs died of hunger in the Arabian Peninsula. There are rich Islamic countries that are not Arab, and you can ask them to invest in Islamic countries as well. Oil countries invest in Islamic countries, but do not invest strongly due to government corruption, the lack of a good investment environment for investors, the lack of great investment opportunities, and some difficulties such as difficulty in business, difficulty in extracting money, political fluctuations, lack of investor protection, etc. Also, political stability is an important factor in attracting capital. You can see the number of military coups, partisan tensions in Islamic countries, as well as the dominance of some imperialist countries over some Islamic countries that do not help to invest in them. Investing in football achieves investment profits and has great opportunities to employ young people and obtain soft power because it is the most important sports game in the world, etc.. Therefore, it is not just a game. You can read about investments in English football, how much profit it achieves, how many job opportunities it creates, the soft power that Britain has gained from the British role, etc.

As an Ummah we must not lose hope. Our best days are still ahead of us, recall the hadith in Abu Dawood and Ahmed ..."...Then there will be biting kingship, and it will remain for as long as Allaah wills it to remain. Then Allaah will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be tyrannical (forceful) kingship and it will remain for as long as Allaah wills it to remain. Then He will raise it when He wills to raise it. Then there will be a khilaafah upon the Prophetic methodology. Then he (the Prophet) was silent."

Huge Thank you for this interview. I was shocked (pleasantly) to see the interview. 1. Great interview, although no problem with his eloquence now at this age but I how I wish it was back in his 90s form. 2. I remember when Tun M, as a Muslim Leader, angered the West when he gave a public speech (was it in the UN meeting, I can't remember) in welcoming the year 2000, where he said that "the 19th century is the century of Europe, the 20th century is the century of America but the 21st century is the Century of Asia" !!! (with the rise of China, India, the oil-rich Middle East Countries and South East Asia in the late 90s). I remembered how angry the American and European leaders were, with backlash comments flooded the newspapers immediately after that. 3. After his 2nd win in election in 2018, I remembered he/Malaysia attempt to hold a meeting of Islamic countries but rumoured to be boycotted by a specific "islam" country and it even threatened other Islamic countries against attending the meeting because it was seen as an attempt to challenge OIC. 4. I think Tun M suggested in an OIC meeting for the OIC countries to have a common money denomination for purpose of trade, so that they are less influenced by the USD. That was back in the 90s if not late 80s. OIC countries might be a little less cuckolded if this idea was successful. 5. I totally agree and understand the provocation from the West towards Russia and China via ukraine/nato and Taiwan. It's very obvious in the China-Taiwan issue. Many people ignore the west role in those issues and only putting the blame on Russia and China.

Great to hear DR M once again. Malaysia had done reasonably well under his tenure as the PM, with heavy investments in super/mega projects. Also, Malaysia became one of the few nations that reduced economic inequality, and poverty and raised GDP per capita, all done concurrently. Although I have mostly criticised NEP because it discriminates against the Non-Malays, even then we cannot ignore the rise in life expectancy, economic and literacy rates in this SE Asian Moslem Majority Nation. Very peaceful and polite society it is, with good infrastructure in its capital city - KL. Today Malaysia has a per capita income of USD$10,000 + due to smart economic planning. Foreign students are coming to this country, alongside investors and tourists. NIC Newly industrialized nation it is, and organically growing every day! Malaysia appears more original, than some of the other countries, which have tried to transplant systems and institutions, overnight, making them look artificial.
