As the unrelenting Gaza killing of civilians continues unabated, another potential ethnic cleansing in Palestine is underway - again in plain sight. The gradual conquest of Palestinian land is continuing at pace. Armed Israeli settlers, with the full backing of the state, pillage and forcibly vacate entire villages and farming communities. Yet the international community remains mute. This is ethnic cleansing on two fronts.
Today, we have back on The Thinking Muslim. Journalist, author, and public commentator Peter Oborne recently returned from a visit to the West Bank. Peter is almost unique in the mainstream media for being someone who has consistently called out the marginalisation of the Muslim community, both here and abroad. Peter principally writes for the Middle East Eye, amongst other outlets. His books include ‘The Fate of Abraham: Why the West is Wrong about Islam” and “The Assault on Truth”.

Depressing but realistic reality of the sea change in both Labour & Tory ‘values’ over the past decade. I’m a third generation British Muslim that has kids and grandkids in the UK. I was born in Newcastle and am a proud Geordie (born within 2 miles of the banks of the Tyne) that follows the Toone on Saturdays & go to Mosque for Friday prayers. I gratefully went to uni in this country & all of us siblings are qualified doctors and healthcare professionals. I feel we are well integrated into society and have several mixed marriages in the family. I pay my taxes & have never claimed benefits. I’m a professional higher rate tax payer and employ over 10 staff in my business, gay, straight & all white (by pure chance). I’m naturally traditional and conservative in my values, and stand for family values. I now have grown kids (4th generation - all working professionals too) & grandkids (5th generation) from the UK. For all the many great things about UK, we sadly see post Gaza (and the reaction of our 2 main parties and their lack of morality and decency), we too, all no longer feel comfortable or safe in todays Britain any more. We too are considering moving elsewhere… I hope Peter’s analysis is wrong but I fear he is right. There is a new form of Anti-Semitism emerging in the UK and it’s labelled as Islamophobia - but no politicians or laws are going to protect us…as a ethno-national soft fascism & a pseudo democracy developes in places like Germany, France and possibly UK too.

Every idea dies in the hands and minds of its propogators when finelly does not serve their interest. People who used to claim supporting of iconic western culture of democracy, human rights, equality and so on lost stamina and real meaning after leading entities and governments changed their minds without telling the masses where and what direction. Salam Good discussion, I think he pointed out a couple of times that the concerns you raise are not "Muslim" specific. Non Muslims are just as terrified about the chilling rightward shift in political discourse, equally many Non muslims would love to run away to tax free Dubai or Neom and seek sanctuary from difficult challenges somewhere else (maybe New Zealand or Australia or Spain). This is not new or again exclusive to "Muslims". 99.99% of the time expats on the Costa Del Sol keep 1 foot in the UK and comeback at the first moment of foreign trouble for NHS care and in order to retain benefits. The "identity politics" approach has its limitations and I think he was politely pointing to some of those. You are reflecting your audiences upbringing and mentality, but he pointed out that for him this is a struggle about injustice and oppression not Religion.

Decades after leaving office, he wrote DANGEROUS ALLIES about the need to separate Australia from the USA, and even publicly left his own party to campaign for the Greens because he consodered them to be the closest to the conservatives of the 1970s. @TheThinkingMuslim whilst your British guest describes the horrors of the west bank settlers terrorising the rightful Palestinian people there, i was dismayed to hear him speculate Starmers reason for siding with Israels "right" to breach international law right from the very start as being bourne from his desire to distance himself from Corbyn. There is no sensibility in the world which could align these two things whether speculatively or otherwise. Starmer is complicit in his encouragement /support of international laws being broken. If one can be an accessory to murder in law then Starmer along with many national leaders and opposition party leaders is guilty, and should be charged as such. I pray we see the day such 'leaders' are brought to justice and receive its full weight of custodial sentences barring them from ever holding a political or public office role again. If not now then when. The worlds corrupt and immoral leaders of every description must be brought before the legal system. If no legal system yet exists with the powers to remove these corrupt immoral individuals from power, then the system needs to be created. We can not continue on the path of being blind, deaf, and dumb. We can not ignore or forget and must work to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice and removed for life from ever holding such power again. They should only gain parole if they can truly show they are rehabilitated and will never again hold any such desire for corrupt greed and murder.

Interesting discussion; wonderful show. Over the past 10 years or more, I've watched the UK move more towards America in its politics, values, morals, etc. Equating the Conservative Party with Republicans in the US, they're pretty much for or against the same things, and sadly, the Democrats aren't seen as much different from the right, not anymore. It's scary all around, and what Israel is doing in Gaza and W Bank is "morally disgusting," as Mr. Oborne said. America has changed drastically from my younger years and sadly, the UK is along for the ride. This awful "genocide is okay" attitude is pretty frightening for so many reasons. We're regressing vs progressing; I pray there's a better future ahead. Blessings.
