Apprentices in any trade are never licensed. The license holder is responsible for overseeing the work and making sure the work is done to standard and they assume liability if something is done wrong. Only in certain specialized or dangerous areas does the license holder HAVE to be the one physically doing the work, like some commercial electrical. Simple carpentry does Not require each worker to be licensed- the Company that employs them is licensed.

We had city water installed to our home. The owner of the company held the license, he had helpers dig the trench, hook up the meter, etc. He checked their work. She obviously doesnt have alot of homeowner experience so shes screwed.

Always check to make sure the GC is using employees rather than subs. It'll cost more to contract with a company with employees, but it saves a lot of headaches. Also make sure it's their specialty trade, too!
