Gazing Into Yuri, the Lord of Abyss: Fire Emblem Character Analysis

In this video I round off my analyses on the lords of three houses by looking into Yuri. I'll be back to making videos relatively consistently so be sure to look out for more uploads soon.

My theory is that the old man was Aubin himself, and rather than saving Yuri because he was his descendant, I believe Aubin passed his crest down to Yuri to save him. In addition, I believe the crest of Aubin grants its bearer minor immortality powers. The old man died immediately after passing his crest down from natural causes, and Yuri was able to survive Baron von Varley's beating which should have realistically killed him. In gameplay it cancels attacks, granting more longevity, and allows a damage half effect from his relic.

Interesting! I never thought of yuri's crest that way, but I think that you could definitely be right. Especially with how it lines up with its properties in gameplay.

So from what we know from the games Yuri's real name is a Bright star that starts with Reg. Which means its probably Regulus

Don't know if you're a fan of manga or anime, but Yuri's design and character overall reminds me of a protagonist gone antagonist in a series called Berserk, Griffith. He's the leader of a mercenary band, has extremely feminine looks, and is driven on by a commitment to his dream of owning a kingdom. Albeit Griffith's goal is more self-serving, he's gone out of his way for his comrades and closest allies at some points in the story. I really appreciate the amount of depth and some of the inspirations that a lot of Fire Emblem's cast has. And Yuri's definitely become a favorite cause of those similarities to another thought provoking character

I still have to get around to checking out Berserk, but those parallels that you pointed out sound really compelling. And I definitely agree, fire emblem has a lot of interesting character archetypes that seem to take inspiration from and almost play off of others from different series.

Yuri is pretty cool. I feel like that Yuri is what Claude could have been, had they made him a bit Darker, but I love the version of Claude we have in the game. Also unlike Miklan, he is not an rapist, thus he gained many plus points.

I always considered yuri to be khalid's riverse image funny enough. I wonder why I.S. never gave those two a support together.

Yeah personally I think that the two are highly similar, but sometimes I do wish that they did more with both Yuri and Claude's characters. And I agree that does help set him above Miklan lol

With khalid I have this personal head canon where because of his trauma in almyra he either purposely leaves his childhood details in the background because he either hates to think about those parts of his past or because since he has a new family in fodlan(byleth and the golden deers) he intentionally leaves it behind. Alternatively he probably represses his emotional anguish with his quips, charm, and ambition. Or I.S. didn't feel like including those details in😂😂😂😂😂😂. Choose which one you like best💁💁💁.

I think your explanation is more interesting than I.S just having forgot about it lol. It might be cool to have a future game in the series explore some of the other continents of fodlan like Almyra or Brigid. If it was in Almyra maybe we could learn more about Claude in that game.

Nice analysis! I was a little disappointed by the lack of romance in Yuri's S support but your explanation established that his character arc is overcoming vulnerability, so the marriage being transactional but finishing up with one of his deepest secrets was a nice touch to grasping the character.

I was always wondering why Yuri's portrait faced forward pre timeskip, as Byleth is the only other one who does that, and how that changed post timeskip
