the reason the first opening skips a whole batch of numbers counting up to 99 is that the anime opening had to cut the original song down to 1:30 min. The original song goes twice as long and actually does count up from 1-99

I think the best part about the way that the Mob Psycho 100 intros work is that they're packed to the brim with symbolism that is only recognizable as you watch through the story. so what starts out feeling like total madness ends up being a collage of all these different symbols that relate to the characters and what they've been through by the time you reach the end of the season. the opening never stops feeling relevant, because you're always learning more about it, and it's always reflecting more meaning back at you. and it makes sense because part of the themes of the show have to do with iconography, and the way a person's individual identity exists in relation to groups and communities. the lyrics to the songs tie in with this as well... the first op has "if everyone is not special, maybe you can be what you want to be" the second has "your life is your own" and the third has "one and only one" which all speak to the idea of distinguishing one's self... the contradictory urge to both stand out and fit in... to be accepted by others, but also use what is exceptional about you to make something of yourself... to benefit others without being used, and to rely on others without using them. how individuals must serve their community, and how communities must serve the individuals that make them. where that can go wrong, and where it can go really right. the show is about these things, and it's especially about the process of the main character's growth with these ideas. it's very good.

MP100 really is an interesting story thematically. I'd say that at its core, it's about change and about being true to yourself. Those are its two biggest themes, and while it doesn't sound like anything special just from that, the way in which it approaches these themes is quite mature and nuanced. It's less that the story has these themes, and more that these themes form the story. It's quite cohesive. Also it has some of the funniest moments I've ever seen, and the art and animation are absolutely insane in the best of ways.

ok so an explanation of the name and intros: mob is a term the japanese use to describe a person who blends into crowds - the "average joe" - main character psycho refers to psychics, and that's why the openings are so psychadelic. it's about messing with your mind. 100 refers to his emotions that build up to 100 before blowing over.

I don't know if this was ever answered in the comments, but the whole Lego opening in OP 2 was the first of many references to the evolution of animation, because it was a zoetrope, one of those things you might see that looks like a plate with a bunch of images or items on it that, when spun fast enough, seem to create an animation. Another example is when there's the lineup of 4 characters who begin to dance as black lines pass by them, which is based off of barrier-grid animation. The whole thing is a love-letter to animation and motion.

@NerdMiGerd2 жыл бұрын
A lot of the imagery in these OPs, especially in seasons 2 and 3 you will recognize if you've been watching the series thus far. It's literally just a bunch of things you see throughout the show thrown together in one place, esp in season 3's opening. "Mob" is just the nickname of the main character, a kid with immense psychic powers and a lot of emotional trauma and an anxiety disorder which stems from that. The chaotic imagery here is mainly to reflect on his fickle emotional state throughout the series, always one wrong move away from exploding with the near-apocalyptic amount of psychic energy stored up inside him. That said this series is still a comedy, and that's mainly where the "big brother" character comes in. His name is Reigen, he's supposed to be Mob's personal trainer for his psychic powers, but is actually a con artist pretending to be a psychic like someone you'd see in real life. A lot of the series follows them exorcising evil spirits, with the joke being that Reigen is always way out of his depths but still finds some way to Mr. Magoo his way through a fight. But Mob also doesn't look up to him for his psychic abilities, but rather his strength of character and ability to navigate the real world, a skill Mob sorely lacks, which is where the heart of the show comes in. That having some incredible feat or power does not put you above others by default, but your worth as a person and willingness to cooperate in the real world.

You mentioned you didn't understand the "lego" thing in the second opening. Basically the artistic choices of the second one is to reference all aspects of the history of animation. and that lego thing is called a "Zoetrope" The figures are all in sequence, similar to image frames in any movie or cartoon. when the Zoetrope is rotated at the correct speed, it gives the illusion of a repeating animation, as each individual "frame" is front and center at the same rate at which your mind registers what it is seeing. a sort of physical "frame rate" The inverse of this is the reason why sometimes it's possible to have a video showing a bird moving as if it never flaps it's wings if the frame rate of the footage matches the rate at which the bird flaps its wings. most common with humming birds.

So, if you wanna know what the show is about, I'll keep it simple and short so if you want to enjoy the show by yourself then it doesn't spoil too much. Story follows Shigeo Kageyama (nicknamed Mob), an ESPer, or a psychic. This allows him to use various abilities with his mind, from moving things telepathically to exorcizing spirits, and that's just their basic use. He works under Reigen Arataka, a hilariously talkative conman who gives Mob jobs to exorcize and acts as a mentor to him, which is the man you see at the end of the third opening.

the second opening was kinda a homage to previous forms of animation! like, one of the first forms of true animation was a zoetrope. the thing where it's a series of images of a circular track. when spun, the images move so fast they create a small animation. that's that the 3d lego thing was at the beginning and end, it was a zoetrope mob psycho 100 itself is known for its incredible animation. it's very rough and non perfect, but it's on purpose. it takes full advantage of the fact it's an animation and it's very fun to see! they even completely change the artstyle at points, from looking like a normal animation, to a simple sketch, to a child's drawing, occasionally to pixel art, and even looking like a damn painting sometimes. I think it's very fitting the second op is a homage to previous forms of animation, considering the fact mp100 is one of the best animated shows I've seen

A lot of the stuff in the second opening are stages of film or animation. As someone else said you have the 3D Zeotrope, stills in different arrangements that when spun creates the illusion of movement. you have kaleidoscopes throughout it. at 4:12 you have the barrier animation style which leads into full animation. I'm sure there are videos on every single one but these are the ones I remember.

Shigeo Kageyama (aka Mob - characters from his name can be read as Mob) is an average middle schooler with average grades. Literally a Mob/background character also in his looks. MP100 is from the same author of One punch man. Like Saitama, Mob is super OP. His struggles are more within. And even though it's seems like he is an emotionless character, he is full of emotion but represses them from fear of losing control of his psychic powers which are also tied directly to it (the shadow figure with white eyes in the OP ) Even though he is OP, the fights are still super incredible. And they tie in emotionally with the character, bad and good. Mob has a family, he doesn't have the typical shounen tragic backstory. He has a mum, dad and younger brother. Reigen, the guy in the suit, is like a big brother/father figure to Mob. Reigen, even though he is a scammer, with absolutely no psychic abilities, is like a mentor for Mob. He may seem scummy, but he is, if not, the best character apart from Mob. The show is a perfect blend of action, humour and emotional weight and character growth. One thing I love about our boy Mob is that he doesn't make monologues whilst fighting or yelling while busting out his moves. Side characters are super memorable and just as fun to watch. Even tho i keep mentioning "emotion", MP100 can be watched casually, for the action, or for the humour. And art style and animation is chefs kiss (even the intentional ugly faces)

Honestly, as strange as this is gonna sound. The openings tell you exactly what this show is about... it is about "Mob", who is the main character of this show. Mob, also known as "Kageyama Shigeo" is a young boy with enomrous psychic powers which he bottles up because he is afraid of what they can do to other people. The entire show is effectivley about Mob growing as a person and how to deal with his emotions which trigger his psychic powers. There are many different side stories involving evil spirits or other psychics as well, which is how some of the "fight" scenes come to be. However, a lot of the story is more focused just on Mob's growth and how he interacts with the world around him and the people in it.

I don't know if this was answered, but the second opening is a collection of references to various forms of animation. that "lego" part as you called it at the start is what is called a Zoetrope, where a series of figures are placed in order. while stop motion will replace each model individually, a Zoetrope places them all in order, and then spins them on a table. match that spin speed with either a pulsing light or something to block one's vision between each figure, and it gives the illusion of motion. Example of a zoetrope: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpCQm2yrqsZ3hbM

Okay, so to explain this a bit - the OPs feel chaotic because they are basically made up of references to things that happen in the anime. As you watch the show, they start making more and more sense. As for what this anime is actually about, well, it's a blend of slice-of-life about growing up, defining yourself _and_ an adventure story with battling evil spirits using psychic powers. Sounds like a whiplash, but it actually comes together quite well, thanks to the unique and well-written characters. Basically, it's a 10/10 would recommend to people with many different tastes

"Mob" is the nickname of the main character Shigeo Kageyama "Psycho" refers to the fact that Mob is a psychic, probably the most powerful in this world. "100" refers to Mob's emotional state. due to something that happened when he and his brother were children, Mob tends to bottle up his emotions because he's scared of how his powers will react to them. these emotions have to come out eventually though, so when one emotion gets to 100%, his powers explode in this emotion. if he's angry, for example, he might be able to use this emotional explosion to exorcise a powerful spirit, or if he's sad, the explosion may rebuild a destroyed building. the older brother character isn't his older brother, but they do have a similar relationship. he's technically Mob's boss and mentor. the guy is a con artist, but one with a good heart that teaches Mob all about how to use his powers and when to not use them despite knowing nothing about psychic powers. he advertises himself as a psychic, but the majority of his clients don't need a psychic, so he uses regular everyday abilities to solve their problems and brands it as techniques to exorcise spirits.

Mob is a pretty chill char but the counting up is his stress level. So 100% is not good It’s modern world with super powers. The fight are stunning but the real stuff are the conversations

So this anime is from the same author as One Punch Man. The guy writes gag web comics with super surreal main protagonists that have over powered abilities compared to everyone else for no apparent reason while they themselfs have this non caring personality where they dont really care to be a hero or anything and just chills because everyone is just weak. But never make the mistake to piss his characters off. One punch man is more straight battle manga while this one is more supernatural, psychological with ghosts and stuff and in my mind much better blend of humor and battle and power levels of everyone. Its just a really fun albeit crazy show.

i love mob psycho. i wont claim it changed me as a person as i don't really have the self awareness to tell if and why i changed since i read it, but i will say that its an absolutely amazing story about growing up and finding your identity. with a bit of added superpowered and supernatural drama and action. and the anime is an amazing adaptation of an amazing manga, taking full advantage of ONE's loose and relatively simple art style to produce amazing animation, with great voice acting on both the sub and the dub (in seasons 1 and 2 at least, cant tell how the dub will go in season 3 just yet).

WATCH MOB PHYSCO !!!! Its the type of series you must watch to truly see what we mean by best anime ever. The openings might look like chaos mashup but each and every of those images have a meaning in the story. Not just random background noise but actually part of the main character's journey. I would love to see your reaction to the series itself ! You won't regret it ! Season 3 is currently airing so its a perfect time to watch Season 1-2 so by the time you finish 3 them will end. :D again i have to say GO WATCH IT !!!!!!!!!!
