She says there was always talk of the troubles in Northern Ireland, but the Catholics were not talked to. In the 1960s people marched for 'One Man, One Vote' and the Civil Rights marchers were attacked eg. at Burntollet Bridge in 1969 (old clips of the People's Democracy March are on RTÉ archives). The system failed innocent civilians like Robert Hamill who was beaten to death on the street in 1997 by a sectarian mob while the police sat in their land rover, then put out false statements and advised the perpetrators on how to dispose of evidence
