One of the funniest movies is Blazing saddles. It was funny because it made fun of everyone. Just thinking about it makes me want to see it. Too bad making fun of people is not allowed anymore. Ahh the good old days.

Blazing Saddles followed a trend that Mel Brooks was so good at. He pushed the boundaries in order to take down the people on the wrong side of history. Look at The Producers where they have a musical production that tries to glorify Hitler with songs like "Springtime For Hitler". To Be Or Not To Be was another pop at Hitler with that fantastic spoof song of the same name. As a Jewish producer, writer and performer people couldn't accuse him of being anti-semitic (boy has that changed these days). Nor could they lambast him for running around in a Nazi uniform (not like they could today at least). But he was following the grand tradition engaged in by Charlie Chaplin of ridiculing the ridiculous. Chaplin of course had a pop at Hitler. So did George Formby whose character actually punches Hitler in the chops. Cartoons galore did the same. But in an attempt to silence the dissenters the Right (and it IS mostly the Right) have made it verboten to talk about certain things in jest because you must be serious and it must be offensive. Especially if you're attacking the establishment. This isn't new. This has been going on for millenia.

Wokeism is rooted in Marxism. Just read “Animal farm" and see how they slowly change the laws on the wall . They are slowly and constantly changing the language so you can not get a handle on it. Also re-read “1984”, they re-wright history so they can force the discussion to be only from their perspective. And of course they have their regular hour of rage as well. It’s also in “1984”

It's sure to be cancelled. Wasting their "platforms" to spread the idea that people should be listening to each other? What fascism! What bigotry! And doing it so calmly! It's all Trump's fault! Let's stick to the plan here!: Virtue-signaling lectures, slanderous name-calling and vile threats is how it's done! There's a planet to be saved!

@@itoibo4208except the kneeling during the anthem thing is literally born out of the "everything is racist" ideology. It's pretty easy at this point to see which side is acting in good faith. I recall the song saying that you need to be cruel to be kind. My sister married a guy from New Jersey who was mystified when he attended our first family get together. Our family believes in honesty and is not slow to tell other members when they think little of what they have said. He told her that he was shocked that people spoke to each other that way. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. At the end of the night, we would always hug and say that we looked forward to the next family get together to see each other again. His family drifted apart and hardly spoke. It is not healthy to bottle up your real feelings.

The incident in The Establishment club Cleese refers to was actually Lenny Bruce doing a joke about cancer. Apparently, the family in question didn't bat an eyelid when Mr Bruce was using the most foul swear words, but as soon as the 'C' word came up that was the last straw and family patriarch ordered everyone out. Peter Cook's description of the incident is truly hilarious.

Back in the day, good comedy always offended someone. I remember listening to Richard Pryor over at one of my friend's houses, a black family. I was a white teenager, a huge taboo, and not knowing if it was okay to laugh and then laughing my ass off. Richard Pryor was a genius; we need more comedy like this; sadly, in the modern world, I’m not sure his style of humor would be allowed. We have Dave Chapelle, but he's more of a truth-teller than a comedian.

That last part on affection should be a clue: we are responsible for knowing the other person. If we make jokes without knowing the other person's sense of humor, then that's not a form of affection, that's just being selfish. What we find funny to ourselves is our business, but what we think other people should laugh at can and often is wrong, and we need to be ready to change and correct ourselves accordingly. Back 'in the old days' there was a lot less responsibility about what came out of people's mouths; it's not necessarily a bad thing that as society evolves, we need to be more thoughtful with what we send out into the public forum.

wokeism isn't intellectualised. Really inteligent people can look past their egos and laugh at themselves. True sense of humour comes with the ability to make jokes about yourself. Woke people don't think, they are thought to act in a certain way. Start a topic in front of them, that was not yet discussed, approved or bashed, and they are lost. I fancy myself a thinker and I also find Bill Burr or Ricky Gervais hilarious XD And this statement that wokeistsm is intellectualised is offending me XDDDDDDDD

usually it is because people have seen the type of behaviour before and that probably lead to physical violence or something else unpleasent. It's weird to asume that people are offended because they are shitty people. When it's obvious and pretty common knowledge that people are cautious for reasons like past experience and trauma. It's crazy to think that we live in a time where grown ups and adults have to be forced by law to treat other people with respect. Hatecrime laws are being expanded and enforced in most of the world right now. Because people who pay taxes and vote are incapable of treating other people with respect. I don't see how this makes any sense??? you aren't capable of treating others with common respect. Then wtf are you able to vote ?

The same thing has happened with feminism. What seems to have started off as a fight for equal rights and pay has turned into one side of the population saying things like chivalry is dead, while the other bemoans mansplaining and proclaims that men aren't actually needed in society anymore. I'm afraid to offer my help to anyone I see struggling these days lest I be berated for assuming a woman is incapable.

To be entirely honest: that has to be incredibly frustrating for many people. The idea that people are always putting on some show of the character they decide to be when talking to others with immutable characteristics, instead of just keeping it 100-ish (maybe like 95% lol?) I have limited experience with that, yet I do kinda know how that feels in a roundabout way...and society is definitely encouraging it via social media narcissism, identity politics machinations and virtue signaling. Thankfully, offline, that concept is less prevalent. That is almost the origin of the "go touch grass" meme to a degree. And people often forgive the faux pas false steps of people just speaking more freely (within reason, and in good faith of course). The internet...less so.

What is your definition of self-censorship? I’ve always thought of it as your own decision to not use curse words in your speech, or choosing not to go see Saw IV because you don’t like gore. Not that you’re trying to censor other people. My definition of self-censorship I think is perfectly healthy. You should not have to be exposed to something you don’t want to see (in terms of entertainment). But it’s your responsibility to do so. SELF-Censorship. I absolutely despise censorship, but I also believe people should be responsible enough to make their own decisions on what media they consume.

What John Cleese said at the end is so true. Friends can ridicule each other. This was the basis of the Roasts that Dean Martin used to host. They all loved each other and they roasted each other. In Australia, they tried this once but their humour was very rude and insulting to the guest person and it never landed right. It was canned after 1 episode. The insults were too personal and not from a place of friendship.

Australians are known to save some of the most crass disgusting insults for their mates. A roast can definitely work here but there is no point using American humour for the same reason that Australian comedy shows don't do well as US remakes. To say they “tried it once” doesn't say whether they tried it well or not, it might have been “once” and poorly done.

Not to be sexist (please don't cancel me - ah, who gives a shit) but this is mostly a man thing. Women tend not to use insult comedy against each other. They target themselves. Men go right in there. They greet each other with "Oi! Terry you wanker!" or "Fuck me Steve, you're a fat bastard these days! Where's the wife did you eat her for breakfast? And not in a good way! Ha ha ha ha ha!". that's projection from comedians with their feelings hurt. They got called out for not being funny when they did disrespectful "jokes". So now they want to throw dirt. While desperately trying to make it casual. Like what is this setup ? like John Cheese and Rob snaildier just randomly met eachother at a comedy club for fancy pants and sat down to have a sip of water and whiskey while talking about the probelm with woke people in their audience ? This is so staged and paid for by desperat conservatives and these two gentlemen could'n care less about taking their money for this job because they know that the people they are "targeting" understands business and understands that this changes nothing. As it's too obvious and people won't take it seriously. Well. At least not people who didn't already have a screw lose in their bigoted "brains".
