The problem with the gender critical viewpoint is that it is part and parcel of identity politics. The GC's see themselves (or see women , where they aren't themselves women) as a competing identity. They are looking for a way to be 'authentic' in their identity and they resort to the conservative biological determinism that is a problem in other forms of identity politics. For them, you have to have a way of deciding a hierarchy of privileges.This is not seen as a thought experiment to check one's own privelege, but a way of pointing at others and saying "you are are there in the hierachy of privilege and I am here." A form of intersectionality top trumps. The same way Crenshaw’s ideas were bastardized and distorted. For gender criticals, trans women are a problem for that model because they 'have been men' (even though really they've always been trans). They were socialised as men. But more than that, they were born with penises. This is a problem for biological determinist views. That's why trans men don't pose as much as an issue to the GC model. That's why the focus is mainly on trans women.
