GC8 WRX Upgrades - LSD and Whiteline Suspension Bits - Project Budget Track Hack WRX Pt8

With a Top-10 finish under our belt in the Rallysprint series, we wanted to go faster. Rather than increase power like most would, we attacked a couple more areas we knew improvements could be made. WRXs have open centre diffs all round so an LSD was needed and the suspension could be tweaked further so we spoke to our friends at Whiteline.

Thanks for this series, really shows how if you focus on the essentials and not the power you can have an awesome and reliable little rippper!

Looks like you could use better lights for the night runs. A curved light bar above the windscreen works really well. The trick is to mount it far enough back so that it doesn't reflect off the bonnet. Using small mounts and water proof quick disconnects would render the car still cool looking for day time events.

@@MotiveVideo I have one in my wrx, I use it for skidpan and gravel racing, car makes about 200kw atw. The rear diff will be good on its own at first but eventually the center diff will start to fail and it wont feel as good. Plated rear with open front puts a lot of strain on the center diff. Just my experience.

@@omer9572 You can leave the centre if you have plated front and rear diffs. It's the imbalance of one good diff in the rear and an open front that puts strain on the centre diff.

Two questions or suggestions. 1: What's up with the rev counter? is it disconnected? or blown fuse? would be nice to see what the engine revs are on the footage. 2: REgards to the shifter position, what's the thoughts of getting a short shift kit that brings the shifter up to beside the steering wheel, this would give you better ergonomics and reduce time of one hand on wheel. Just a suggestion.

For what he's doing with the car there would be way too much shifting involved. If he decides he need more power and a stronger trans his best bet is to upgrade the 5mt with straight cut gears and stuff like that.

What's the deal with your tachometer? I'm too afraid to drive without one at the limit. But you know your car and what the motor sounds like at what speed, so it works for you. An LSD made a huge difference in my overpowered Datsun 510, but I'm curious why you went aftermarket. I'm not the most knowledgeable about Subarus, but I would guess the STi would have parts you could more cheaply install and work just as well. New parts are more desirable obviously and you know their history (or lack thereof), but I would just guess there would be more STi stuff on this car. My opinion is biased due to the fact that nearly my whole car is made of parts from other cars.
@MotiveVideo
@MotiveVideo 4 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Ball the car is slow enough that no tachometer bother me and know the car really well. Factory diffs aren’t tight enough and wear out and we have 4.4 ratio. Went with what we knew and bought a mechanical centre
