It seems like I drive a lot of trucks...I do, this is the Southwest after all, and Gallup is truck country.
This is also the zillionth F150 I've driven over the years. So why another video? This particular configuration represents a great choice for a large portion of truck buyers. Check out the video to find out why.
As always I bring you an unscripted and honest consumer perspective without all the fluff.

Watching this as a western European where you would not find a single parking spot or be able to fit a truck it into any garage unless you get a short-cab-short-bed one, where you'll suffer with anything but a 4--cylinder diesel at $6/gallon gas prices - you guys truly live in a different world.

Finally somebody reviews a truck more on the lower end of the price range. Nicely done. I will dispute the reviewer's stance on the cab doors. The thing that really makes the Ford stand out in a positive manner is the way the doors open up.The whole side of the truck opens up, allowing for further flexibility that the other trucks gave up when they chose to move to conventional doors.

Awesome review ,,! I don't like people complaining like they own the truck , obviously you buy acordintly to your life style , budget and geographical location , it's completely rediculous when someone complains about a 2.7 ecoboost 2wd when they live in northern canada ....... Really ???? Cmon people . If you live in Florida "flat land " you don't need the 5.0 4x4 . If you don't like it don't buy it . Overall I really enjoyed your review .

Nice review. I life in Nova Scotia, Canada with typical eastern seaboard winters. I have been driving a Ford_Ranger 4x2 for 8 years on and off the beaten path and I would definitely by the 4x2 if only you could find one up here. I invested a fraction of the money I saved on the 4x4 system in good winter tires (no just M&S tires) and have no complaints.

Your sentiments are mine exactly, I'm a fan of the supercab configuration as well, The functionality is just what I need...I need the extended cab for small things and people rarely so that comes in handy great as well as the bed for my atv's that fit perfectly without even needing to be tied down...I love reading comments from all the naysayers about the ecoboosts....If they did research on these motors and not just focus on the cubic inch or the amount of cylinders they would change their tune..I own the 2.7 in particular and the technology and durability built into this motor is second to none...One of the first gasoline engines made with CGI which is just like the powerstrokes...The motors are simply made to out perform and for durability...I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if these motors lasted 4-500k miles before any major repairs....The aluminum bodies are an all around plus and the people that don't like em better get used to em because everyone will start to follow suit soon to conform to the new epa regulations coming soon.....Why wouldn't you want a truck that's lighter, stronger and lasts longer?? and won't rust like conventional metal...I am dissapointed in the 6 spd tranny..If you really want to pull away in the fuel economy wars, put a 8-10 spd in it which will come in time but not soon enough.....Good Job on the reviews by the way....I enjoy them

+Klent F I'm not sure how much extra gears would help this truck setup in mpg. When I'm accelerating, it barely exceeds 2000 RPM as it's speeding up and upshifting, and when it does go beyond 2000, it doesn't stay there long, and when highway cruising, it stays in 6th gear except for the steepest grades here in TN. Of course, if you're sporting around and putting your foot in it, it's a different matter and it'd probably help to have more gears, but for normal driving, these 6 gears are very smooth and it's constantly upshifting, staying in the low RPM range most all the time, and that's with the highest gearing available with a 3.31 rear axle ratio. Like you hinted, this is not like any of the standard V6 base engines and doesn't deserve to be called a V6 in that some ole derogatory way, because this thing drives like a mid-size V8 and that's due to the fact that it's got low end torque like a V8. Ford uses this same sort of technology in an all-new 2.3 four banger that they put in Mustangs and larger sedans like a Taurus and large crossovers like Edge. It's the same deal. Those 4 cylinders drive like big engines. The one in the Mustang is an upgrade engine from the base V6.

Greg, Thanks for the great review. I purchased a F-150 SXT new in 2004 which now has over 300,000 problem free miles from the 4.6L V-8. I have considered replacing the old girl and looked at a 2015 XLT with the 2.7L eco-boost but was not very familiar with the motor or power range. Outstanding review. I am looking at this sort of truck to replace an '06 V8 which I drove for about a year and loved. My preference would have been for a used truck, given the potential savings. However, after settling on the 2.7L Ecoboost I'm thinking that newer is better, seeing as they probably made some tweaks and improvements, given how new it is. Also, its a lot harder to find exactly what you want in a used truck with relative low mileage. The price tag is hefty! I'm working my way to swallowing the loan/payments and possibly heading in this direction.

i just bought my 2015 ford f150 2.7L V6 ecoboost 3 days ago. so far i love it. pros: -quiet inside -so far i've only drove it in the city, and the flyer says 13/100kms in the city, and i would agree that it's on key with that. I'm like 13.4 range. -i dont have many people come in my truck, but when i do ( like my parents) they have no problem getting in and out, and they have enough room to be comfortable in the -back/front. -i can get a truck camper and put it in the back and still close the tail gate and lock it in there for security/still get to use the back up camera. -the tail gate has a lock that is connected to the doors of the truck. so if you hit the open/lock button for the doors, it does the same for the tail gate. -the locking truck cargo attachments and the spare tire key lock from thefts, are really nice. Cons: -going around corners,and if it's bumpy, the rear doors seem to rattle but it's minor. -i wish every model came with the folding mirrors -didn't overly like the fuel up area with no cap. ideally, i would like a pop latch then just easy access. -when i start my truck with the starter, the heated seats will turn on, but not the actual fan system to warm up the cab.

I was hesitant on going with the 2.7L in mine versus the 5.0, but the 2.7 is perfectly adequate. I've even towed a 4,000 pounds trailer and it never felt like it was lacking any power. When you put it in sport mode and give it some gas, it'll throw you back in the seat.

Great review! I’ve owned a 2019 Supercab 2WD STX 2.7l for 7 months now. Dealer was having year-end close out and 2WD doesn’t sell as easily as 4WD. Sticker was almost 41k. After dealer cash, rebates, Ford credit discount, military discount, and a little bargaining, I drove away with a new truck for less than $30k! It’s been a great pickup so far. I live in the coastal plains south, so don’t need 4WD. Pulls and launches a 19’ boat no problem.

I just love the truck, it is a dream to drive. The old truck was an 01 XL Superduty diesel Xcab with 8' bed. The only comparison is they both have a tailgate and 4 wheels. You spoke of size a few times, I'd like to chime with my 2 cents on the subject. I'm 6"6" and I am in love. Over the weekend I'd tried the RAM 1500, Chevy Silverado, Nissan Titan, and the Ford F-150. This F-150 is cavernous in comparison. It has nice spacing between my knees and the dashboard and steering wheel, good overhead space (hard top, non-sunroof model tested), and the side over side space for my arms / armrest real estate is just phenomenal. Getting in and out with minimal shoulder scrunch / head ducking was unexpected, and I don't have to slide in at awkward angles to fit my knees past the wheel. The specific model I test drove was the XLT Sport w/ supercab. I swear I sat in the pilot seat in awe for a solid five minutes just TRYING to find a reason not to buy it right then and there. Now the only big question is, do I pull the trigger on a year end deal or wait for the tax refund season events?

I purchased the 2015 F150 Lariat in August and took the truck on a 4,000 road trip. At no time did this truck get 26mpg. The best mileage was 22.8 on only from one tank of fuel. Average consumption was 20.2 mpg after 177.754 gallons (80% highway miles). My wife and I enjoyed all aspects of the truck during our trip. The only problems was the usb plug over charging one of our iPhones and the phone shut down. Apple in Denver got the phone back in business. Lesson learned, charge & unplug. Doug

There have been many, many reviews and consumer complaints of drivers reporting poor fuel economy with this engine in the F150. Those disappointing mpg numbers range between 15-19. That was not acceptable to me, but I took a chance anyway. After taking a chance on this 2.7, as someone who wanted sort of a base model, regular cab with just a few more options than a work truck as a daily driver and light-duty hauler and comparing the Ford 2.7 to the GM V6 DI to the Ram Penstar with an 8 speed all for around the same money, my rationale paid off. The problem with those disappointing reviews of the 2.7 EB, the best I can tell, is that they are reviewing usually 4wd, super crews, and high axle ratios and that maybe the good mpg that this engine can achieve is squandered away when its combined in a truck that's going to keep the turbos on boost and sucking more fuel most all the time. I'm not sure if my rationale is correct, but I do know that I'm averaging 23 in mixed, conservative driving in a half-ton truck, with a gas motor, and that's pretty impressive, since one can't even get the configuration I got in diesel that starts at $38K, whereas I paid around $28K for a good truck with good fuel economy and good torque. I think that's where Ford's engine technology really shines, and probably does very well with respect to the truck tested in this video as well, but one can't expect to opt for a gargantuan truck with all the bells and whistles and all available capability and put any gas engine to push it and get good fuel economy.

The real decision of price vs needs vs wants will come with this 2.7 ford vs the GM diesel.....or we could all just wait for the Ranger! Imagine this 2.7 engine in an Al body Ranger. What will that fuel economy be like.

+truck guy fiftynine Cheapest Colorado/Canyon Duramax diesel you can buy has an MSRP of around $34K-$35K. Cheapest Ram Ecodiesel you can buy has an MSRP of around $38.5K. Cheapest F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost MSRP at or about $27K. I'll conceded that either diesel kills the Ecoboost in fuel economy and love that low end torque @ 369 and 420, respectively, and wish that some OEM would or could put a small diesel in a regular truck at a reasonable premium,. but considering the anti-diesel regulatory environment concerning diesel emissions, the EPA calls "fuel neutral", it's not going to happen unless there is a major breakthrough in technology that allows for lean combustion without the creation of nitrogen oxides.

Another fun video. I remember when the 2015 Ford F150 premiered. I wasn't very impressed with its styling. It's a good looking vehicle overall, it's just the front of the truck which was the least attractive part of the truck. Looks aren't everything, though. I've never driven the truck, so I've yet to get a feel for what it's like. The only thing I've never liked is its lack of a turbo diesel engine. Even a 4 litre 4 cylinder would make this ute a fuel efficient workhorse. :)

go with the 2.7 Eco boost instead of the 3.5 Eco boost. LET me tell you why the EB 2.7 is a iron block and not a aluminum block like the EB 3.5 iron is way stronger than aluminum just heavier.

I bought this truck in 4x4 love it. I agree with pretty much all that you said , I can see how the doors would get annoying in your case but I am single and no kids so I got it for the extra cab space. mine has 4x4 and the rear locker and stickered for 38000 . the sport package adds the wheels and color matched bumpers( mine is black it looks sick) thanks for an honest review .

I went to an event where they let people take a 5 minute drive in the new F150 before they were on the lots. I drove both the 2.7 and the 3.5. The 3.5 hauls ass for a V6. I wouldn't buy one like that as I'm tech savvy and like nicer tech in my truck. But 35k for a base model? Thats pretty high

Great video, I share the same sentiments. I ended buying a XLT supercab 4x4 w/ the 2.7L, 8k miles so far and loving it. So many people want the full four doors that never have four passengers, I don't get it. Supercab size is perfect for just me yet I still have room for passengers in the few times that I do. One thing I had to have was the 2.7L payload package, adds 3.73 locking rear, really gets up and goes! So far im averaging around 21 MPG, and I'm probably around 50/50 city/hwy. If you get the right truck you won't regret it!

I have a wife, a 17 year old kid and a 90lbs dog. I am looking to get a pickup truck sometime next year 2020. I have watched your videos to try to see which would fit our needs best. The trouble is most all reviews focus on towing. My situation is a little different. My primary purpose is to haul the family and commute to work daily ( about 60/40 city/freeway) nothing extreme, and only about 50 miles a day round trip). The truck aspect is for the occasional trash haul, or helping someone move, or getting plywood at Home Depot for some project. With all that being said, I want the most comfortable room, best fuel economy, reliability, safety and price. What is your recommendation? Thank you..

The only thing that is of concern with this configuration is safety rating. IIHS tested super crew and super cab and found this configuration didn't have same structure in the front making it perform a lot worse In small offset crashes. Ford didn't expect them to test the supercab. There are rumours it's been fixed for 2016.

Ride and handling? I work for a dealer that sells Dodge Ram trucks and I have noticed that the Ram trucks not only age faster than most of the GM or Ford trucks that have past through our pre-owned department, they also ride considerably harsher. I do not mean firm. That would be a reference as to how planted the vehicle feels. Harsh, is a reference to how bumps transmit through the seat and controls. Fords are firm but do not ride harsh or become unsettled easily. Gm trucks seamed to have a softer ride with in the same class and often exhibit slightly more body roll as a result but track well. Rams can be harsh and at some speeds the rear feels loose over irregular surfaces. They will transmit more bump steer than others and likewise transmit more bumps through the occupants. Which can actually result in some discomfort after driving for several hours, such as a sore back.
@1400IntruderVS
@1400IntruderVS 8 жыл бұрын
Mark Murarescu I will say this... The Ram by design is a good truck, how ever with the exception of most interior surfaces it seems they are manufactured with inferior materials. People forget the Ram is also not an American truck. It is built by Chrysler. Currently owned by Fiat. Formerly owned buy Daimler and before that Diamond Star. Chrysler has not been an American corporation since the late nineteen-seventies, which is almost half the life of the brands they are a associated with. So the efforts to remain a player on a global scale have led to a an ever changing list of vendors and consistences in build quality. Of course this is true of all brands at some level but it seems to effect Chrysler products on a grander scale.

It's just not a good bet if you plan on keeping it past warranty. I also believe that Ford will intro an 8 speed soon to allow the twin turbos to finally deliver the economy they promise. The safest bet is the 3.5 baseline engine which is proven. Stupid crazy prices for new and lack of durability used will be unfortunate for the brand.

Drove the Tundra V8, the RAM HEMI and both EcoBoost F150's (back-to-back) and I'd take the 2.7 all day long. It's smoother, better performing (braking, handling, mpg), more agile and I think the engine design is really solidly engineered. Unless you can't live without a V8 rumble, it's the best truck out there IMHO. The 3.5 feels slightly quicker higher up, but less dynamic/heavier. Light is right in my book. This video is long, but really explains the technical side of the engine design: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYScm4mgj5Z-pJo

I have no idea why the video doesn't mention the start/stop technology. When you are stopped at a light, the engine cuts off....when you are off the brakes the engine restarts.......I think that is a terrible idea since 90% of engine wear is at startup. I test drove one and it is very uncomfortable for the engine to keep cutting off in traffic.I ended up buying a 2015 Supercab non ecoboost 3.5 with no power windows/locks/or mirrors. I could give a crap about sync. Costed me $26,300 plus tax, tag, and title.The base 3.5L engine does 0-60 in 7.9 seconds, which is quick.A turbo engine would make me cringe at the possibility of EXPENSIVE out of warranty repairs.Nowadays trucks are just status symbols and most are not used for work. I love my truck and I get 21 mpg!!!!!! Not bad for a 4400 pound truck.

Dear friend This not the cheapest model and ecoboost engine has a lot intake valve problems. How about regular cab and 8 ft box with standard v6 engine. Less maintenance problems over long haul and Ford has not fixed the intake valve problems on the other V6's which can cause damage by allowing oil into the engine/ gj
