Perfect timing Mr Ferguson! I'm purchasing my products now for my September thatching and reseeding project. Have been using Jonathan Greens Black Beauty Ultra for the last few years and wanted to try a tall type fescue this go around. You convinced me to try Pete's GCI tall type fescue mix and just placed the order. So glad he's offering a 10lb bag size. Keep up the great work with your video's. Nice to hear from one of us on what he's tried and get an honest review! All the best! Anthony

@@hemiedup5501 Been using Jonathan Green Black Beauty Ultra for a number of years and never regretted it. My front has sun an shade and does well with it. My backyard however is full sun all day and my reason to try GCI turfs tall type fescue. More drought tolerant for that blazing sun in the backyard. Appreciate your suggestion. I'm sold on Jonathan Green for the rest of my yard

One thing to note about Pete's seed also, there is 0% other crop. Certain type of undesirable grasses fall under this category, such as some types of POA...if it is under a certain percentage, then it can be deemed other crop.

Excellent review. I live in Louisville, have Pennington Rebels Tall Fescue. Dealt with Brown Patch past 10 years. Followed Allyn's suggestions this year, mowed at 4", put down Milorganite monthly, put down Scott's Disease EX monthly starting in mid May. No fungus first time in 10 years. Lawn looks great. Also used RGS three times. Watering once or twice weekly. I thought about purchasing Hydretain. Thought ii would draw too much moisture into grass, setting it up for disease. Those were my thoughts, did not purchase. Then I saw your video making the same comment.

Maybe consider grass seed with a less% of bluegrass to help with watering issues? Southern seeds inc (located in NC) offers TTTF with 5% ky bluegrass compared to the 15% bluegrass in the cool blue mix.

Oh yea, I'm not completely done with kbg. Besides, I have the remaining amount in my lawn from Cool Blue planted last year. Just want people to be aware it's not just talk, it's true. More watering will be necessary. Thanks JD!

I am seeding some in las vegas. I expect the bluegrass to checkout 3 months a year, but hope it returns for 9 months and spreads to repair itself. Even the k31 and probably a dozen varieties of straight fescue will checkout in a few days in 115 without a ton of water.

Wow, great content. Thanks, I planed to use the TTTF before and went back and forth between the Blue as well until your post. The plan is to use less water in the summer months🙏. My plan is to amend my soil to have the susults in July and August here in Louisville. So really everything comes down to two months. So sad to see Pete getting rid of his TTTF in his side yard. Wish I could just cut out about 5K sqft of that and put in my lawn. 😜🤪

I live in the Philly area & my back yard is 75% KBG / 25% Perrenial Ryegrass/Fine Fescues and I have to water 3-4 times a week during summer to keep it looking good (but never great in summer). My front yard is a 50/50 mix of KBG and the other half is a mix of TTTF & Kentucky 31 (from before I moved in) and this yard is looking great this summer. I only have to water this lawn 1-2 times per week and it's doing really well. Come fall and spring, imo nothing looks better than my KBG back yard but it's definitely much higher maintenance. Still, I recommend at least having a % of KBG in a Tall Fescue lawn in my area so that it can spread and also recover from damage. It's also not as prone to fungus as Tall Fescue is so always good to have some sort of mix in a cool season lawn.

So my plan for Fall is to overseed backyard with GCI TTTFescue in a few spots where I still have wild Bermuda grass. If I were Pete, I would not kill off that beautiful TTTFescue for BG. It requires too much watering.

Argh... I'm still probably gonna get some Irrigation and try the blue heat when I renovate. I'm 30 mins from Louisville. Gonna need plenty o water lol. I want that dark blue, and Pete claims it's pretty disease resistant compared to fescue I do believe. Missed the mark this year so I'm just gonna keep Tenacity down and keep weeds out of my heinz 57 new property. Next fall is so far hope Pete gets more blue heat back. I blended my own scotts kbg and tall fescue from lowes to fill in bare spots for now. I'm gonna dethatch and aerate in the next few weeks as well as throw some biocharken down

COOL BLUE is awesome. The watering is tough and expensive. We have over seeded with it for 2 seasons now. Because of the KBG in it I don’t have to over seed this fall. So now I can go after POA w/pre-emergent instead. At least that’s the plan. Just gotta get thru August.

I need to get some fresh seed down that's better than my current grass. And I also need the ability for self repair to fill in those bare spots.

Good review. I have all GCI TTTF in my front main yard, and All KBG from GCI Blue Heat on my side strip. I water them the same amount, the only saving grace is that the KBG does get a good amount of shade. I would definitely have to water a lot more if it was all KBG. I added 3# of blue heat the TTTF last fall. As for this fall I haven’t decided on a seed yet. Be safe

TTTF needs around 6 direct hours per day of direct sun. If your shaded areas have less sun than 6 hours…all TTTF will have the same issue in those low sun areas.

Do you think disease resistance issues come from more watering?

Disease itself comes from water yes, but from just seasons and temperatures changing. Not so much watering, but natural rain as well. It’s still a great product though.

I would love to know the best herbicide for this blend to treat summer grass ie Poa Annua?
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 2 жыл бұрын
Well poa annua isn't something you can spray a chemical to deal with. It's a cool season weed that comes up all around the nation, and the only herbicide I know about for cool season lawns that suppresses it, is Tenacity. Again, it only suppresses it. A thick healthy lawn is the best thing to keep poa out, as well as applying pre emergent in place of overseeding. However, that's a choice each homeowner has to make on their own; seed or pre emergent to stop poa.
