Same in Long Island NY. Battling the heatwave as well up north. My neighbors lawns are all crispy. I am trying to hold on but have sections of heat stress. Hydretrain, Sea Kelp Yucca, Humic acid and YM Stress blend but Mother Nature has the upper hand this month. I am planning and looking forward to overseeding TTTF in late Aug early Spt. Will be doing the “process”. Thanks for sharing.

I am keeping my fescue in the back but I am going to renovate again on the front with either Iron Cutter burmuda or Jamur Zoysia. The way my front yard got cooked I don't like the way it looks right now. I am excited to bring back something in front of the house. I did this last year reno to coincide with my neighbor. But its not working. I am going back to warm season heat tolerant cultivars. I may have to invest in a reel mower which I didn't want to but I enjoy that feel good moment driving up to the house like we all do on here.. I have not experience that since I made the switch. Mr Ferguson I am still tracking your vlogs because I am keep the fescue in the back yard. Keep up the outstanding work! Thank you and God Bless.

@ogsan1296 Thinking of making the switch to Bermuda as well. The backyard has fescue and I just did a full renovation to the backyard. I’m thinking of doing Iron Cutter as well for the front yard. I live in Ca where we can have brutal heat in the low 100’s to 115. The fescue can struggle without a doubt in those high temps. This year has been hottest on record like a lot of places around the U.S. We do have low humidity which is a plus. The bermuda will go dormant during the colder months, but I guess I’d rather have nice lawn during summer when we are outside in the backyard with the kids.

@@catherineagarcia7964 where in Cali, my Son lives in Sac. and it bakes up there in the summer. What excites you about the Iron cutter ? Getting ready to kill the rest of my front yard this weekend. Doing a reno last fall with Fescue, I should have been more thoughtfull with how much sun is out there. I figured since I had Bermuda already I would try the zoysia. But I keep getting Iron Cutter whispers lol. Good luck with your reno. I just locked in with my sod installer today.

I decided in early May that I wanted to kill off my entire lawn and start over because the Triv has gotten so bad over the last few years. I dig it up and reseed, but it’s like playing wack-a-mole because I never get all of it. I didn’t want to take care of the lawn all season knowing I would kill it off, so I sprayed glyphosate in May. Yes, it’s all tan (which is an interesting summer look haha)…but what great timing with the heat we’ve had this year. The amount of $ I’ll save on water and products will more than pay for the many cubic yards of dirt I’ll be getting delivered. Not to mention, the many many hours I’ll get back from not tending to it. I can still scratch my lawn care itch in the backyard. Keep up the great content!

Your lawn needs severe aeration. I’m not saying you’re compacted but the quality of your soil you can amend with multiple multiple passes with the aerator, multiple passes with dethatcher, suck it all up and dispose of all of it. Then top dress heavy with 50/50 sand soil level and seed it. I’m willing to bet your drought stress will be fixed significatly. 1 yard per 1000 sand soil mix.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Ай бұрын
Thanks Tim! I tend to disagree, BUT if I get the aerator for the church and have time, I MIGHT run it over mine once or twice. We will see, but honestly I'd like to try seeding without aeration to see if there is a difference...for science.
@devinthomas9999

I’m curious, if you do aerate, at what point in the process would you do it?
@timjackson5103
@timjackson5103 Ай бұрын
Since he’s gonna over seed I would do it in this order. A couple weeks prior I would start getting the height down. Game time I would heavily water or plan this after a good rain to loosen the soil. With the grass around 1-1.5 inches lower if possible, I would aerate 1st multiple passes, remove all the cores, verticut in two direction. One 90 degrees and then 45 again clean up and remove all that nasty. Spread compost, sand mix. Compost will hold water and help amend the soil and the sand will form channels for deeper water penetration. Then I would smooth out like butter, spread seed lightly rake it in, fertilize with 1lb N per 1000. Or seed then soil but don’t burry it to heavy.

Yeah I've already planned on dethatching an aerating also. Got one of those tow behinds. Works for me. Save all the extra work for the driving range....Humidity great for guitars and other wood instruments, but a golf ball sure don't fly here like it does out west!!!!! LOL

My plans for Fall is a light overseed in the front yard. I have some leftover Artimuss that I'll throw down on some thinner areas. Have some weeds I'll address Fall time as well. I'm doing a portion of my backyard with a complete reno. The backyard is mainly weeds and K31. New construction so I've had to dig up some massive rocks, roots, etc. Too much of a project to do the entire backyard plus it would be more money.

So, Propiconazole is a plant growth regulator, and I have heard of people using it at seeding time to regulate the existing turf. So cutting existing grass low, regulating it with Propiconazole, thus giving the new seedlings less competition, less crowding while germinating. Do you know other ways that Propiconazole chemically helps seed to germinate? Do you know of a

Think about applying some PGR to the lawn prior to seeding. Should help keep the mature grass short long enough for the new grass to fully germinate.

@MrFerguson, enjoy your vids. I know you about TTTF, but shouldn't you changeover to a warm season grass for the project lawn since they won't water much? @ElevatedLandscape I think has vid. His dad is in NC. Redid his lawn with sprigs of Bermuda, & it's all pretty full even with the drought. Just saying. I have a greenhouse dethatcher, but I plan on getting a dethatch/scarifier, so I can rough up soil better & clear more thatch. Summer been rough on my lawn but nowhere as bad as yours. We have gotten periodic rain here in NNJ.

Thanks man. Yes, eventually that is likely going to be the outcome of that area. More than likely. However, once you do that, you can't go back to cool season grass without a lot of work and money. I'm not ready to convert it to warm season just yet, as I've mentioned on the channel. We are doing this season with heavy traffic and see how this goes. If we feel it goes well, might maintain it over time. If not, we might consider going that route.

good question, i used some top soil/sand my first year of moving into my home in Smyrna. Worked well to protect the seed but also mainly to try and level some of my yard since i had 32 trees and stumps removed. Ill be doing 100 lbs of GCI seed this fall.
@NoFlyDrone
@NoFlyDrone Ай бұрын
If you don't need to re-level the ground, you can use peat moss. It's cheaper (and lighter) than dirt. It will hold water well and prevent your seed from washing away or collecting in pools. Another added bonus is that you can look out and see when it's dry so you know when to water again.
