Chris, My only concern is with the drag link being so short and the panhard being much longer, I would imagine you would get a large dose of bump steer. Can you post up a working video of the setup? Typically, both links should be the same length and same angle to avoid problems. I just had a customer have a hard time with a CMS setup and it came down to 1/4" difference. Once it was fixed...Zero bump steer. Let me know your thoughts. Greg

Hi, Greg! Thanks for the comment! The links are not the exact same length, no, but there's almost no bumpsteer at all. It's just about not seen at all through the whole travel. The other important thing is the ANGLE of the panhard rod and angle of the steering rod at full extension. In this case, both servo and panhard are angled down about the same 15degrees, so when the suspension compresses (to make bumpsteer) the axle also has to swing (to zero out the bumpsteer) the same amount. This works great! The total axle sideshift on this truck is maybe 2mm, and the bumpsteer the same, so you never see any steering change at all through the compression of the suspension.

Criss I love all your products but like to keep my servo on the axle where it's performance works tip top along with the lowest possible mounting location. Plus my servo is black and well hidden being my truck sits at stock level. Unless you pick the truck up ya can't see the servo

Another great video from GCM. I am a big fan of the tryangulated four link set up. I have my rigs set up like the stage one with the stock four link mount on the front axle. However I am wanting to do a cms. Are there any problems that you know of with using your servo mount and keeping the four link? Thanks guys.
@GCMRacing1
@GCMRacing1 10 жыл бұрын
You can keep the 4link, sure. In some cases you may have some steering things going on, because your servo on the frame drives one side of the steering only. If that wheel is high, you will have max steering, but if that same wheel is dropped low, you will have less steering, because the link is dropping down from the frame servo to the steering knuckle. That's the only issue with using the 4link instead of a 3link and PH. The Panhard will keep the steering rod and axle position almost the same all through the travel, so you get the same steering on all suspension positions.

Which Panhard kit you used? I’m interested on the part that wraps around the axle, the part with x-shape bottom with four screws.

Hey I just watched a earlier vid about getting in your orders for metal head axles. Are these the scx axle housings you have been talking about building with the offset front pumpkin cause I thought they was some king of composit material. I'm wanting these new axles you have been working on. What are they called. Or are they these metal heads.

Confused, On this install the panhard and 3 link are on the same side of the axle. On your J2 they are opposite. So Do this matter?

Can u help me out? I'm kind of new to the hobby. I built an scx10 slowly ordering parts here n there. Everything was going great until I got to axles. I have stock dingo axles and bought the steel phat axle housings for them thinking that all the bolt patterns are the same but now it seems I can't find a truss or panhard mount to fit these housings. Can I only use stock axle housings if I want to run a cms? Or run at all cuz it seems I can't mount my links. I've got almost 700 bucks into this truck I just want to run it. I should have started with an rtr lol
@GCMRacing1
@GCMRacing1 7 жыл бұрын
Wow, that sounds a bit discouraging really.. I'm pretty sure the PHAT axle housings are a stock replacement, so If that's true, then all the stock or RTR or stock axle parts should fit and work. They are designed for a factory replacement/upgrade and that should mean all the stock stuff will fit on there. Should also mean that a VP panhard kit will work, likely also the GCM truss parts, of course the stock bridge will work too, etc. Check with Trevor Rushford, from RCEC as he's used these housings a bunch already and did well with them.

Yeah I'm thinkin I was just having issues making everything fit. Seems I'm not the only one having this problem. Apparently stock parts will fit sometimes they just need a little persuasion. Thanks for the reply. I love your channel. I actually stumbled on one of your rig review videos and was blown away by the incredible work and detail you can put into one of these and that was actually what made me get into scale crawlers/trail trucks. So thanks for that. I'm gonna dig my rig back out today give it another go. Thanks again.

But I do understand this is the most scale setup possible and if I ever build a tf2 I will mount that servo on the chassis as I will be going for as real as possible. I'm not even sure where the stock tf2 servo mounts.

I don't see why not.... The extra suspension travel *may* cause some more axle shift. However, the way a Panhard Rod works, is it keeps the drag link constantly centered to the axle itself. So, increased or reduced axle travel, should not change the geometry at all.
