Awesome!!! I love the VW Shell. That's one of my Favorite cars in the WRC. I love the bottom tray. I finally got my XV-01 back up and running again and I'm having a blast. I went with drift right now just to be able to play with it in my garage until the trails dry up a little.

10 years later, I discover the XV-01... and I want one badly. Still in production, but I have to wonder when Tamiya will discontinue it. Cool video and excellent build.

I finished my XV-01 Gazoo TRD kit a few months ago but I don't really have many places to go offroading other than my gravel alleyway. I changed to the longer shock ends and it further improved the offroading capability. In terms of drifting I can see it easily being modified all you'd have to do is take off the mudguards and change up the suspension and wheels. Unfortunately for me I've lost quite a few screws from my back alley offroading bashing :)
@GCMRacing19 жыл бұрын
kevin leung Haha! you need some new hardware it sounds like! Glad to hear you're using your kit, these are really fun to drive! I agree that some lift in the suspension would be a great help to these, they do sit pretty low to the ground with the stock settings.

Very cool! Made me do a double take since I always thought that Tamiya never came out with a VW body for the XV-01. Made sense after watching the rest of the video. Turned out great, especially with the lights and the rally interior! The bottom plate is such a delightful feature too!

Will 1/10 body with 260mm wheelbase fit XV-01? Is that 3mm difference difficult to overcome or obvious to be spotted?
@GCMRacing19 жыл бұрын
hatakashi1900 I think the 1/10 is the size for the XV01.and there's a bunch of XV01 tamiya bodies that fit. I am not sure what the exactl wheel base is for those, but they claim a good fit, and tamiya usually knows about that stuff. The other consideration for the XV01 is the bulky front motor, so some low hood bodies won't work on this car. The body seemed wider than the wheels, so we used the tamiya offset rims to bring the wheels out to match the body profile, and that was easy.
@DeezTricky10 жыл бұрын
Very cool looking. Puts me in mind of my buddies beater VW Sirocco that we regularly took out in the fields to do some make shift rally driving. Would have liked to seen the body off just to see how it looked under there personally but still great looking car.

hey guys i got my XV-01 not far ago and im working on that yet but i think its gonna blow your mind if it'll turn out well. I wanna make it superscale, its EVO X body w light set that i modified a little (actually a lot) to get most real look. Also i made my own chassis-to-body "lock system" that leaves body unhurted by drilling holes for mounting. Its mechanical system i will show you in my vid ill make as i get that job done. hope you'll like it, hold thumbs for me ! see ya !

What about running the battery lead to the back of the body with a bracket and cutout, almost to look like an exhaust outlet? Then even the body could stay on...

Hey fellas since the tamiya kits dont usually come with electronics. Whats a good combination of esc and steering servo for the rally series?
@GCMRacing15 жыл бұрын
If you have a short- course, tight, then use a 3s battery on a Hobbywing 1080 ESC, and a 55t motor, and you'll have great low end control and still tons of top end. If it's a more open course, then the 2s battery and stock silver tamiya can will be great also

sorryociffer That's the Tamiya body, yes. And they have light buckets available also. Really nice lid!
@sorryociffer10 жыл бұрын
As an aside, but related, I have come accross several really nicely painted bodies online that come all painted, with roll cages, lights etc. When I asked baout the wheelbase, the number they gave me seems to be way off from the wheelbase of most of the chassis I have found. When asked about that, they said it was a "standard wheelbase". Any idea? They are in Asia so are they misunderstanding what I am asking or is there a different standard? I don't want to drop $170 for a custom lid that won't fit my car! Thanks so much, I enjoy the channel!
