GCR Rugby-Brackley fly-through, Take 2

Now at a lower speed, with improved labelling and extra detail (not to mention piped music).
Using Google Earth Pro, we track the alignment of the original Great Central Railway main line, from the site of Rugby Central Station to the remains of Brackley Central Station. This section crosses the routes of three other dismantled lines, which I have attempted to label. Look out for the ventilation shafts and earthworks above Catesby tunnel.

You can see it was a superb alignment when it was built prior to 1900, would have made a fabulous high speed route to the north, and also to a channel tunnel, had it been allowed to be completed. A great fly through, thanks for posting👍

Although the video is well intentioned it is a far cry from the days of operation. For those who made the Great Central work are ever present in our memory.

Your videos are quite compulsive viewing. It is sadly fascinating to see this great work ‘being unravelled’ by man and nature.

I think the only reason the railway did not reach France was the political situation in the early twentieth century.
