Can someone explain to at 1:14 if they are only sharing two electrons then how do they each get one extra?
@sorasora72402 ай бұрын
they are sharing 2 in total, not 2 each. so each cl atom is sharing one electron, each one has one extra from the other meaning the valency of the outer shells of both have become 8.
@yipipayayiii19 күн бұрын
Both of them have one electron in their outermost shell so when they share (combain) these electrons togather they have two atoms to share, think of it like you have one dollar and your friend has one dollar and you both want to buy the same thing, which costs two dollars, both of you share your dollars so you can have two dollars and buy it

at around 3:15, why can't nitrogen transfer an electron to each hydrogen through ionic bonding? because then they would all have two electrons in the outer shell which is a full one
@Zahra.Cloudsss10 ай бұрын
Instead, nitrogen tends to share electrons with other atoms, forming covalent bonds where electrons are shared between atoms.
@Zahra.Cloudsss10 ай бұрын
Because Nitrogen's electronegativity is not high enough to pull electrons completely away from hydrogen.
@ElwenMelon3 ай бұрын
Because the reason that atoms have chemical reactions with other atoms is to achieve the electron arrangement octet or duplet that's stable, therefore nitrogen is also Tryna achieve that, if it donates it electrons, how is it gonna achieve that?
@ArtixticDia17 күн бұрын
It's because if nitrogen tends to give 3 electronic to each hydrogen..The Nitrogen will be having more protons which leads to instability of the nitrogen atom..another reason would be that nitrogen tends to be a share atoms instead of gaining...due to this it cannot form an ionic bond
