Can't thank you enough. I don't think my chemistry teacher has properly explained this once, and when he does he just glosses over it quickly in tiny illegible handwriting on a whiteboard, I now understand this topic and am ready for my test.

Explained this waaaaay better than my science teacher did, she literally made everything so unnecessarily complicated, i ended up just closing my book and going to sleep because it hurt my brain, but thank God for you because now i finally actually understand how to do this

If you can't remember how to work out the number of moles, think of it this way: Mass of Mr. Moles Mass = Mr/Ar x Number of Moles

Hello, I just wanted to thank you for all the videos you've been making. I took my GCSE's in 2016 and your videos are the reason I went from a low B to getting full UMS on all 3 papers for my further additional science GCSE. In the exam, would we be expected to know that sulphuric acid is H2SO4 etc. (3:13) if it was given in a word equation. Or do they tend not to use word equations in questions similar to these?

4:13 why do we not include the hydrogen when calculation the Mr since would it not change the calculations to 138 since 1 times 2 is 2

The question is only asking us to calculate the mass of the calcium sulphate so we do not need to think about the hydrogen at all. Hope that helps.

95 is the relative formula mass of MgCl2. Mg has a relative atomic mass of 24 and Cl has a relative atomic mass of 35.5. There are two atoms of Cl in MgCl2, so we need to multiply 35.5 by 2 to get 71. Adding 24 + 71 gives us 95. We multiply 95 by 3 because there are 3 moles of MgCl2. This gives us 285g as the answer.

Okay so, we are currently doing this in class and my teacher says that we don't learn moles until year 11, and we are learning this. I literally can't describe how confused I currently am since we use a different method but I find this on way easier???

You need to calculate the Mr of the product which is CaSO4. You have calculated the Mr of the reactant H2SO4.

Add together the atomic numbers for the atoms of the elements. Ca=40, C=12, O= (3x16)=48. 40 + 12 + 48 =100
