I tried this paper for revision much harder than previous paper 5s so it’s great to have a video going through the solutions

There are definitely some new and interesting spins on many questions in this paper. Hope this helps!

Well they come in sets of 3, so as long as you do well on the other two papers, then it all evens out. Good luck with it! 🍀

thank you so much this helped me because the mark scheme was very confusing

Yep, mark schemes are written for teachers, not students, and can be easy to misinterpret. Much better to watch the videos to uplevel your work!

Hi I’m about late but I don’t understand number 14. How is it equal to multiplying it by 5 and dividing by 2??
@MrTompkins7 ай бұрын
Tomorrow would be too late - today is just fine! 😉 It comes from the ratio given in part a) of the question - that the students who like pop to the students who like rap is 5:2. So if we take the number of students who like rap, divide it by 2 and multiply it by 5 we'll get the students who like pop. Try it with a couple of numbers first to make sure it makes sense to you, then apply it to the algebra!

Also do u haven’t any tips to understand wordy questions. I seem to always struggle with understanding what’s going on
@MrTompkins7 ай бұрын
My biggest tip is to think 1) what topic is this? 2) What skills do I know related to this topic? 3) Can I apply any of those skills to the information I have been given? 4) Does that simplify anything on move me closer to the solution? Rinse and repeat. Not worrying about what they are asking and just doing what you can do with the numbers you are given is often a good way of picking up extra marks, and may often allow you to see the next step!

i dont understand Q14 still because why did u multiply 5 by X+1 then divid by 2
@MrTompkins Жыл бұрын
I'm using the ratio they give in the question. They say pop to rap is in the ratio of 5:2. So I took my expression for rap (x+1), and applied this ratio to it. Does that help?

Yes! 1) Before moving on, ask yourself "Is my answer sensible?" For example, if it's an angle, write it on the diagram and see if it looks right there. If it's an average, as yourself is this amount I've found typical for the given data set. Read the context of the question and see if your answer fits that context. 2) if it's an algebra question, you can often sub your answer back into the original equation and see if it is true. 3) type things into the calculator twice to check you get the same answer both times. 4) write down whatever you're going to type into the calculator on your answer paper first.5) Re-read the question at the end to check you've actually answered it. 6) Look out for anything written in *bold* - students often overlook these parts! 7)Recheck for any special instructions on how to give your answer (eg rounded, or as a fraction/decimal etc)
