This is very helpful. I've been trying to figure out where I'm at since I'm trying to find a new horse. While I feel I am an intermediate rider and have had trainers tell me I am, I dont have much experience with young horses. But it is very tempting to get a younger horse. One that I tried was a great horse with lots of potential, but her movement was big and I realized she was tall enough that if I wanted to get off and work through something, I wouldn't be able to get back on most likely.

Are you just tapping the shoulder with the crop?

I use a dressage whip and tap behind my leg to reinforce my leg pressure when I feel he is slowing down.
