This is my follow up review of the Bars Gorka 3 Russian Mountain Windproof suit. I have used this gorka quite extensively over the past year in a variety of conditions and it has not disappointed in the least. It pairs quite well with a plash palatka and is ideal for hard outdoor use for bushcraft, hunting, backpacking, airsoft and more.

Good review! I love my Gorka suits! I've been collecting Soviet and Russian militaria for awhile now. Regarding the color on the historical photos, those suits were a more sand tan color and would also get bleached naturally by the sun. I don't think the guys washed them that often. The suit you have (looks like a BARS) is also a bit darker by design than those seen in Afghanistan and Chechnya Wars. The sizing system is weird for us, but pretty useful. It does tend to vary a little from manufacturer to manufacturer (or factory to factory if it's made by the government). From my experience, this what I would say generally applies: Widths < 48: US Small, Extra Small 48-50: US Medium 52-54: US Large 54 < : US X-Large, 2 X- Large Lengths 1-2: Short 3-4: Regular 5-6: Tall It's also important to keep in mind that typically these are sold in sets, where you can't typically request to mix sizes of shirts and trousers, so if you have a Medium sized chest but a Large waist it's safer to order a 52 suit than it would be like a 48.

Ive had mine for about a year now. Here are my takeaways- - 60 degree max temperature, -20 minimum. You can always layer under, but its just too warm above 60. - scotchgard it - hand wash, but use no products. Water will clean it just fine. Warm-ish water in a tub or shower, hang it out to dry. Don't wash the suspenders - wear a really wide belt. The loops are tall as hell, and can bear a lot of weight, so wear a belt that fills them. - wear the suspenders, they're fairly comfortable and they keep the pants up really well - dont put any patches anywhere on it, it puts holes in the fabric - use the tick traps. For real, ive caught so many of them in there, theyre really worth it - watch the buttons. Some haven't been put on super well, and may need re-sewing. - only button up to the third button down if your not wearing the hood. This keeps the hood out of the way and yet still jeeps you warm. Thats all i got, if i think of any more ill add them

My 7 year old and i were roaming around Wykeham forest North Yorkshire yesterday in our Gorka 3s. Yes they do them in kids sizes too,as the Russian boy scouts use them. We've found that they work best with a pure wool jumper and merino wool base layers,better than synthetic materials.

I've had a BARS Gorka 4 for about a year now. Based on my measurements and feedback from multiple reviewers I got a 56/5. The trousers are almost but not quite too long and sized well enough to wear alone but plenty big enough to layer over regular trousers if necessary. Alas, the Gorka 4 doesn't have the tick traps. The anorak top fits well by itself but is just a mite snug and short with layers, though a light fleece top and a base layer under that will make it plenty warm enough well into the 20F range as long as i'm not totally sedentary. If I could mix-and-match sizes I'd get 56/5 trousers and a 58/6 top. All in all, I'm still mighty happy with the set. I wear the top almost constantly. It doesn't look quite as "militant" as other designs, but the macro-pattern of khaki and dark (is it green or brown? The answer is yes, lol) is surprisingly effective in a wide range of environments. Thanks for the review. I really wish these suits were easier to find stateside, but they are worth whatever trouble needed to procure them.
@areus2016

There is a good reason why these are extremely popular among civilians in Russia. These suits are just so versatile. When you pick up a gorka suit, go ahead and get a plash palatka with it. Cost me $10 extra but great for rain, as shelter, etc(its got way too many uses for me to list).

Nice follow up review. I have a Bars Gorka 3 as well. One thing to be careful of is putting them in the dryer after you wash them. They'll shrink. My suggestion would be to wash in cold water and line dry. The Earth-one color is a nice compromise between full-blown camo and something that'll blend into the woods, yet not look overly military if that's a concern.

Hello, about the sizes The first number is "chest girth / 2" (measured in cm). For example if a chest girth is 104 cm, then his size is 52. The second number is about man's height. Starting from 1 (158 cm), and +6 cm for every next size. Up to 8 (200 cm). For example, 4 size is for 176 cm.

Im torn between the Gorka 3 and the 4. The updated 4 drawback is that its a pull over top but its made of Anorak. Which I guess means its a good material but its not as breathable. I asked a couple of companies selling both suits which version is better for 3 season wear then? No answer so far. Aside from the pocket layout and it not being a button up, the 4 seemed to be the ideal pick. But Im curious if there is something I am missing. I like it that you did a winter video so its not even a poor choice all year really.
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 3 жыл бұрын
I would grab the 3 if you are planning for 3 season wear with it. They are same material the 3 and 4, just style of jacket. You will get much more use out of the jacket if you are able to open it up. I would grab a 4 for winter use. You want them a little oversized, which the elastic helps synch up, so you can add layers underneath. The Gorka is typically the outer layer of an 8 layer system for russian military.

the 3 has a button up jacket (which I prefer), the 4 has an anorak style jacket. I like the 3 because it is more adjustable to the weather. If I get warm, I can unbutton it. The 3 also has an additional mesh sleeve at the bottom of the pants that you can tuck into your boots that serves as a tick trap. The 3 is much more functional in my opinion. The 4 does have a nice style though.
