Hi. All these years later and your easy listening, good camerawork, step by step video seems to have mine back up and running. Even if it stopped again, no fault of yours, so you are to be congratulated, all these years later, on a job that is still saving people money. Thank you, and thank KZbin!

Dear Ryall Family, I am a single Mom that treated my self to this very nice microwave and I must say I loved it...for about 2 years...then the touch pad died. The same problem as you described....and when researching how to fix it the cost was prohibitive for me so it sat broken.... With Thanksgiving coming up I began to look to have a repair person come but then I saw your video and thought that maybe I could have a friend do it for me but...It seemed easy enough...So I did it! I am so happy to say that it worked like a charm!!! I have a slightly different model number CVM2072SM2SS made in 2009 but on the inside all looked exactly as you described. You did a wonderful job explaining exactly how to do the repair. I am so grateful! A million Thank you's from my family!!!

That was not my issue but the instructions on dismantling and reassembly was excellent. Thank you. For those like me, the plastic screen in front of the pad was the issue.

I did what the video said and I'm still having issues...it's like the touch pad is not centred. What was your issue and how did you fix it?
@333popr Жыл бұрын
@@guelphdgc7995 I did as well (trying the video). We found a replacement keypad online and went through the hassle to replace that but it only extended the life a short while- not worth it for us. I suspect our gas burners were the biggest culprit- the heat. We ended up replacing the whole microwave. Good luck.

This worked perfectly for me. One thing to point out: not everyone will need to remove the microwave from above the range. You only need to do this if the two top screws are covered by your cabinets. In my case the screws were accessible and I was able to perform this repair with the microwave in place.

Tried this on a 8 yr old GE Profile Spacemaker 2.0 , which has the same control panel assembly, unfortunately it did not work. The control panel had stopped responding, the unit was off for a couple weeks and it started working again but then stopped responding again yesterday. After reading several reviews i'm thinking the humidity from pots boiling under the microwave are possibly causing the problem. This is a great video and good instructions , thanks for taking the time to make it.

I watched your video, followed the exact steps and repaired our microwave based on your excellent instructions! I have the exact model and had the same issue. You probably saved us $250 versus buying a new microwave!

My GE Microwave, manufactured in Jan. 2016, went out. No power on keypad and no interior light. Something happened to blow the microwave and ruined a GFCI outlet (not the outlet for the microwave, but in the line). Changed GFCI outlet and restored power to other outlets in the line, but still no power in the microwave when plugged in. I was about to order a new touch pad and circuit board, $144 at GE or $65 on ebay, but I thought to try this cleaning the ribbon trick. IT WORKED! I pulled the keypad off, disconnected only the ribbon, wiped it with alcohol on a Qtip and allowed it to dry. Reconnected the ribbon and plugged in the microwave and in about 1.5 seconds, it powered on the keypad and the interior light asking me to set the time. THIS WAS AN AWESOME TIP AND WORTH THE TRY.

These are excellent video instructions. I followed them to the letter on my 2010 GE Cafe Microwave. I was so hopeful that the touch screen would work, but it did not. I am glad to hear it worked for so many. Perhaps it is the humidity from pots boiling and recent hot weather, I may try the hot air blower technique. All worth trying since GE would cost $600. Alternatively you can send the panel for repairs for $125 on Ebay. Wish me luck.

We bought a home and thought we had a broken microwave and doing this worked! black soot was coating everything in the kitchen, including the inside of this model.I had to do this twice, the second time I also cleaned the outside of the ribbon contact plugs. I put everything back together and plugged the microwave in- no luck. then I unplugged and plugged in again and suddenly everything worked! Thanks for saving us another big expense after buying a home!

Nice job on the video. I have had many problems with the GE Cafe Microwave touchpad. To minimize the problem I made and installed a small aluminum plate to cover the gap at the bottom of the touchpad assembly so that steam from the front burner of the GE Cafe Dual Fuel range does not affect the touchpad. Unit installed in 2009. I also had other problems with the GE Cafe Duel Fuel range and GE Cafe Dishwasher, so while they look nice, I wish I had purchased another brand. It was an expensive investment for the units to last such a short time.
@kenoelberger81369 жыл бұрын
+jm jm The problem with our unit seems simlar. Unit does not respond to touch pad, unplug , plug in 1-3 days later and it works again. Assume it has dried out. Where did you place the aluminum plate and what size?
@jmjm8159 жыл бұрын
+Ken Oelberger; It appears as if GE Appliances is now selling the touchpad again. It was out of stock last time I checked. However, it is selling for $512.25 just as much as the entire microwave cost back in 2009; might not have any other choice except to purchase the touchpad and hope it last longer than the first one. www.geapplianceparts.com/store/order/shoppingcart Microwave Control Panel WB07X11113

thank you! perfect fix. being a lazy being, i didn't want to go thru taking out the boards so i first tried to remove the white wide flat cable that goes to the top of the board (seen prominently in the screen at 2:50) and insert it back in. It worked! Clearly the contacts got a bit rusty (this should not be happening - bad design job GE!). my situation prior to repair was as follows: everything worked except for the touch featured of the led screen (the bottom 3 buttons worked, as did the display itself). repaired in under 3 minutes. Thanks again! Hope this helps others.

Amazing!! Just followed your process on my Maytag microwave. Sorry - meant for these comments to appear here. We have a Jenn-Air microwave with similar a similar touchscreen problem. Unplug the unit first! On this unit you have to remove the metal case and pull out on a little clip that presses the ribbon cable against the contacts in the ribbon cable connector. I had figured out several years ago that the cleaning with alcohol process described in this video worked on our microwave. This was after actually replacing the whole touch panel once. Same symptom - some keys would quit working. Most of the time simply cleaning the contacts on the cable keeps unit working for several months. Just cleaned ours a few minutes ago. "2" wasn't working. It's a quick, simple, fix. Takes longer to take unit out of its cubby hole in the cabinet it's in and remove the case than clean the contacts on the one ribbon cable on our unit. Great video - just wanted to share my experience on a unit which requires a different approach to accessing the ribbon connector. One other thing, there is a high voltage capacitor which is exposed when you take the case off. Stay away from it and the wires leading to it. It's in the rear of the cabinet on our unit and the touch panel connector is very close to the front of the cabinet just behind the touch panel. Final note - Jenn-Air is a Whirlpool company. They also market products under Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and other names. Fix should work on many brands.

Thank you very much! We'll be trying this tonight. I think the problem with ours is that the touch pad sits right over one of the gas rings on the range - right in the path of the rising steam.

I gave this procedure a try and it didn't work. The touch pad stopped working a year ago, and then miraculously began working again after I stopped using the burner directly below the touch pad. Unfortunately, it crapped out for good a couple of weeks ago, so I called GE. Within five minutes they let me know that the touch pad was defective on the unit (Cafe Series less than 4 years old) and that I qualified for a replacement. The replacement was delivered and installed within a week! Not only is it a brand new microwave, it is a convection oven also! GE rocks!!!! They even took the old unit for disposal!
