GE Dishwasher No Power, No Lights (Fixed)

Sometime ago a repair person came and got our dishwasher working again…at the time, I didn’t know that all he did was unplug it and it reset. (Paid a service fee for that) When I had the problem again, I read to unplug and let it reset. That has worked for me over a year, and then it finally wouldn’t work. I watched this video, ordered the circuit board and installed per your instructions, and it worked! Thank you for taking the time to record and post!

​@@Knightmare626press and hold Cycle Select and Start to enter troubleshoot mode, then start, wait 2 min, next mode, start. Repeat for 5 modes. I found instructions to enter service mode wedged up on the left front side after taking off the kick plate but they're probably online too.

That will help you FIRST diagnose if it is your main control board (which this video shows you how to replace) or your user interface board. We followed this video step by step first and it did not fix our problem. We then found the diagnosing video, realized it was our UI board, ordered that and replaced it and it fixed the problem! This is the best video I've seen for this repair; clear step by step instructions, great lighting, and the power safety reminders in the right spots. Getting the silver tray back in was super fiddly, so I'm glad you prepared me for it. I had a slightly different model GE dishwasher, but the repair was the same. Ok so a great Thank You for your video. Flipped the breaker and lights on! We bought our GE in 2018 and never had issues with it! We only used the dishwasher about 1 or 2 times a month. Hubby hates dishwashers rather I wash dishes by hand. A few months ago I was telling him ok I'm doing all the dishes anyway so from now on its dishwasher or not at all. Haha thank you!

My dishwasher acted similar. I unplugged it for 30 seconds it back in and it worked. Then in a week or two it would do the same thing and that’s still what it does . So it’s kind of annoying to have to unplug it and plug it back in. I know someday it’s going to quit so I’m going to order this part. Thanks for making this video. I’ve never heard such great job of explaining what needs to be done. Just a superb job so congratulations and thank you very much . By the way, the only problem my peanut butter was Skippy. After a month of doing that it shuts down within 24 hours, then starts shutting down during the dishwasher cycle. So hopefully yours was a one off. If not, you know how to fix it. :)

Before you all go this far down the rabbit hole, please try unplugging the connector from the bottom of the control panel that runs to the top controls. Clean the connector with CRC electronic spray cleaner (Both male and female ends) and replug it in. This connection seems to be a culprit that causes sporadic and intermittent power issues to upper controls.

Update!!! I turned off the electricity to the dishwasher at the breaker box and turned it back on. I opened the dishwasher and the panel lit up! I cannot believe it but THANK YOU for this video and the comments!!

Thanks a lot for this video! Saved a few hundred dollars with your help. It was harder to put back the tray after installing the new board as in my case one side of the tray was a little bent. The key is to remember the tray fully fits inside the grove with all cables in place.

I have a slightly different model. The control board is bolted into its case so I have to wait for my bf to get home with his tools. I also had to take the door off just to be able to access the screws. I only have screw driver at the house. It's an easy to follow video though so I appreciate it.

I have a very similar 5yo GDT655 dishwasher with the same problem. I tried toggling the circuit breaker a few times, nope. So I removed the lower panel, removed the metal box plate, disconnected that white plastic power coupling, cleaned it with a toothbrush, re-inserted it, flipped the circuit breaker back on, voila, works! No random beeping anymore, panel display properly times out after a minute and goes dark. 10-mins of trivial work saved a $250+ service call! 🤑🤩💫

However, as others have noted, it's started to activate/power-on itself again, ugh, so I just off'ed its circ-brkr till I need it in another two weeks. May have to replace the circ-board as others have, ugh.

You will find that after some time this wont "fix" the issue. Its an electronic conector that connects the lower electronic board to the upper control panel. It corrodes. Unplugging it and cleaning with CRC electronic spray cleaner will be your next "fix".

I had the same problem, no power. I took out the switch on the top of the door in the middle. The door is a triangle point that plugs into the switch inside when the door is closes, this is the switch, 2 screws and 1 plug. I took it out there is a spring you can easily see when you flip it over, I blew it out with air a bit and cleaned up that area, reinstalled it and it fixed my problem. The switch sales for $7 bucks on Amazon, but cleaning it up did the trick for me.

I ordered the board, put it in and the dishwasher still doesn't power up. I did some testing and found that when I connect power a green light on the new board blinks. I tried the old one and that one does the same thing, so I know the board is powered up. I'm wondering if it's the control panel on the door or I should just get a new dishwasher. This unit was installed five years ago, but I bought a model home so it wasn't used at all during that time. Basically a new dishwasher. And it worked during the home inspection 6 weeks ago!

Mine is a Maytag about 10 years old. Several months ago it would not start. Pressing the start button would cause the light to flash 3 times. Had to shut off the breaker, then it would start. Happened again a couple of weeks later. Since then I have to reset the breaker almost every time. Does it need a new control board or could it be something simpler and cheaper? Great video. Used it to replace the PCB on my GE. Part number was hard to find but to help the next person, my dishwasher model was PDT845SSJ0SS, the part number of the failed PCB was ge p/n 265d1464g301, and I ended up overnighting a replacement direct from GE part WD21X26942. I am not 100% sure, but I think the front panel that shows CLEAN is not working. It did show WASHING last night, but I have a working dw so I can live with that.

Not gonna lie- I saw some comments on the appliance repair subreddit that said those boards fail a lot so I guessed and got lucky. Since then it broke again and this time it was the button panel. I posted another video tonight showing how to test with a multimeter. It’s really simple and worth it to know which one to replace. There’s also a video out there from a channel named ‘Bearded Appliance Repair’ that shows how to do it. Good luck man. 👍

Mine made a pop sound randomly. The dishwasher wasn't even on, when i went to go look at it, it was completely off, no lights, sounded like the braker cut off. So i reset the the panel breaker, and it turned on right away, like urs did in the video, later that day same thing, dishwasher wasn't running, heard a braker trip, and same thing dishwasher was completely dead again. Could a bad wiring harness cause low voltage going to the main board? I currently have an issue with my UI not responding at all. I tested the pins on the main board and they showed 4-5 volts instead of the 12-14 volts that they are supposed to show. Should I replace both the wiring harness and the board just in case? Probably important to mention that the wiring harness that is currently installed is slightly blackened where the black wire is entering the head adapter piece which is plugging into the dishwasher. Gonna give this a go. I like the replies about trying to reseat the connectors first, before investing in the part. Might want to add that advice to your video. Haven't done this repair yet, but my GE seems to be a zombie -- last night, I heard the telltale chimes of a cycle starting. The door was open, as it acts as a $1,000 drying rack for handwashed dishes for now. The lights were on, and there was a "gurgling" coming from the drain area, as if a valve was opened (still while the door was open). Still feel this is the control board, or do I need to call an exorcist?

I thought our control board was bad. I removed it and did some continuity tests on it and found nothing obvious wrong with it. Thinking it was dead, I put everything back together, including the control board. I powered on the dishwasher and it lit up like normal. I ran a wash cycle of the dishes that were already in the washer, and it finished like normal. Turns out that the issue was the cables just needed to be re-seated. Try this first before ordering a new control board.

GE Dishwashers suck. Enough said. Thanks for this video and info. While dropping my main control board for testing, mine started working again. When I put it back together, it stopped. Apparently my issue is either a connector to the main control board or a wiring harness issue. The only thing that worked was to leave the control board somewhat lose so there was no pressure on the connector wires. Sigh... :(

I had the same problem with mine. I read somewhere to turn off the breaker to the dishwasher and leave it off for at least 5 minutes. Once I did that the lights came back on and I'm washing dishes again. There must be some sort of power reset if there's none to the board. Try it I hope it works.

Check if the light on the motherboard underneath solid green? There is another video that shows how to check the voltage on the motherboard going up to the user circuit board in the door. If the have 14V between blue-yellow and black-green wires then head up to the user circuit board. Test the voltage on the other end of the plug. Look at the plug pins on the user circuit board. If you have 14V then others will say change the board. But, the board is not dead. hold a piece of wire between 5V and reset on the user circuit board. Then hold the wire between Reset and GND on the user circuit board. I used the ends of a bent paperclip. 5 seconds each. Press “Start” on the front of the dishwasher and it should light up.

Appliances just suck these days. It is by design too. It ensures that the parts can be sold at ridiculous prices with enormous profit margins. $150 control board that costs $6 to make knowing a good percentage of people will do that over buying a new one. I however will just never buy GE again.

@@dannyb_916 it’s true, they are designed to fall apart after 5 years. I have a 1953 refrigerator that sits out in my dusty garage and it still runs perfectly! The brand is “Leonard” and the Leonard refrigerator company built a refrigerator SO well that it still runs 70+ years later! This is why they build them to break now… they don’t want you to buy one that lasts 70years, they want you to buy one every 6 years. Problem is their reputation is tarnished and I’ll never buy GE again because every GE appliance I’ve purchased is garbage. I’ve had luck with LG (and Leonard) but that’s about all🤣

I don’t know if I can do this but I may give it a try. Messing with anything electrical always gives me anxiety. I had a he tech come out 2 yrs ago and he replace the brains of the control panel. Dishwasher worked for approximately 18 mos no problem, then it started powering up own its own throughout the day and night (so annoying at night) and then on Christmas Day 2023 it died! So here I am watching this video trying to decide on an attempt to self repair or call he tech and pay a $300 invoice!

I turned off the breaker to the kitchen circuit for 10 min and back on again, and it was back to life. We had some super brief power blinks a few days ago that were so short they didn't even kill the TV or computer tower, but I suspect that caused this. Hopefully the board still has some life left, but I am comfortable changing it. I've replaced power supplies in TVs, really not that different.

There is also a service flash from GE to replace the heating element. In my case i reseted the dishwhasher and put it in diagnosis mode. Then once it was in wash and heat. The dishwasher stopped working. Not always, but that heating element could be a culprit too.

No display problem can be either the board you replaced or the UI board... GE has a software update device that can sometimes reprogram them both. Try calling the manufacturer and asking if they can send out the update device first.

@@seanraffan1712 yeah I did. There’s another video on KZbin about how to test this circuit board to see if it’s good. You test two terminals and if you get the right voltage then it’s the control board up where the buttons are. I ordered one of those and watched another video and got it going. Hardest part was I didn’t have enough water or electrical line so I had to disconnect all that to pull the unit out.

There’s an easier fix, call g.e and the tech will apply the UPDATE that fixes that issue for FREE. G.e knows the issue and isn’t charging for the update. How do i know? I’m actually a g.e field service tech.

Finally gave up and called a reputable appliance dealer/repair store. Was told it was the board, but there are actually two boards that need replacing plus the wiring harness at a total cost of $360.00 plus the $110 service call for a total of $470. Said this model is cheap model most new home builders install and are lucky you get from 3-5 years from them and have seen this problem in a lot of them. Mine is 3 1/2. Viewing the cost I decided to purchase a new upgraded model GE for ~$1000.00 for everything including tax and disposal of old machine except extended warranty.

I have the very top of the line dishwasher from GE. The first one came with a bad well joint that caused a severe leak into my basement. The second one which is about 9-10 months old is now completely dead. I have a 3 year extended warranty but this proves to me that GE is an unreliable brand. Never again.
