I found tons of videos showing the UI board replacement but only this one with the main control board. Thanks for sharing!

Just a few comments for people trying to fix their dishwasher I have a GE GDF640…… Nothing worked, no power. For a month I had to do the circuit breaker trip exercise until one day it no longer worked. Here’s how I fixed and what I learned in the process. The super rapid flashing light on lower circuit board is normal The the connection point to the house power is worth taking the wire nuts off and putting them back on, because after hours of trying other things, and even though they appeared normal it was the green ground wire that may have been loose, even though I tested white plug going into the machine control circuit board, I got 120v and so there was no reason to open the wire nuts and check that. However, A multimeter will not be looking at the green ground wire. Also, when you get power back on and nothing seems to work normal, ie panel works but can’t start, it may be in DEMO mode, see technical sheet folded somewhere on bottom of dishwasher in the insulation padding, it will tell how to exit DEMO mode, which is a mode that prevents it from starting while on display at store. Also, I did the test to see if machine control board ( the lower one ) was putting power out ie 13 volts, etc, and it was, however, it is NOT conclusive to say that the IU board is at fault. That test is just to see if the lower board is putting out power, and nothing else. The false conclusion that it’s the UI BOARD is concluding by casual inference. I’ve seen people comment that they’ve bought both boards and nothing works is sad too see.. Also the door switch is also tested and shows how on the little piece of paper, so take your time working through that sheet, so don’t conclude it’s the door switch too soon either. You can test each main component, one by one, through the service mode, again read that little sheet. Once I reset the wire nuts, which I didn’t even thing were an issue, all worked fine. Final note, look on the bottom of the dishwasher for the little folded piece of paper which tells you how to enter service mode, read codes, exit from DEMO mode, and the wiring schematic is worth while.

Just to add on, the wiring harness is something I also tested with multimeter, and it was also a good continuity test. My point is that the 13 volts output from the machine control board is not the method to test the UI board, it’s just a possible clue. It could reasonably be the wiring harness. Once again, just trying to prevent someone from throwing parts at it to fix it.

Dude! After 5 different videos and completely removing the door (and replacing it along with the control board) three times I find your video and although out of focus it solved the jumper sequence problem I was having. And how to get the door apart -- now I am running a load instead of buying a new one. Thanks a bunch.

Amazon video! My 14 year old GE Profile dishwasher won’t shut off after running a cycle, the dishwasher simply starts another new wash cycle. The dishwasher ran for almost five hours before I realized I had a problem. I tried the simple reset, turning the breaker off for five minutes, which did not work. I believe the problem is the control board, which I will try to replace. Thank you for making this video and for the thorough explanation. I’ll post a response if this works.

I had the same problem. Honestly, It's pathetic to say, buy you might as well buy an new dishwasher and that's what the manufacturer wants. I had a three year old dishwasher like this. Good luck even finding the boards. It's a joke what these manufacturers have done to us.

Thank you! I believe the UI control board is my issue. The fun begins. My problem is I don't have all the tools needed. I'll figure it all out though....

A trip to a Harbor Freight or some type of discount tool store will save quite a bit over Home Depot or Lowe’s, for the couple of items that you may need. And if you’re doing this type of project, ie dishwasher repair, then I’m sure they’ll come in handy again.

This is my problem. Checked GE website, $115 for service tech visit. How much will it cost if it is the user interface board plus labor plus the $115? This cost of a new dishwasher? like $500? The original cost of it was $800 plus, it's a GE profile and barely 6 years old!!!

I replaced that main board it worked or a week or so now it stopped working again ,I think it is the user interface board ,just like yours .I would recommend using liquid pods for detergent not granules .

If I see this correctly, just taking off the white plastic covers from the hinges, the door will come off? Is it hard to get back on?
@burrheadjr Жыл бұрын
not as hard as I thought it would be, just use some channel lock pliers to grab them and it isn't bad at all.

I had the same issue, replaced both boards, quadrupled checked all connections and still nothing. What are the odds I received bum boards? Do you think ths issue might be the wiring harness that plugs from the UI board to the control board?
@burrheadjr Жыл бұрын
I couldn't tell you, though I am pretty sure I didn't need to replace the first board, it was only the User Interface Control Board board that I think did anything. If your new User Interface Control Board came with the adjustable pins 10:00, and you set them correct, I would think that you have a functioning board. My understanding is the new ones with the jumper pins are pretty reliable?
@extrememetaldrummer1 Жыл бұрын
@@burrheadjr I actually got my two new boards the same way the original ones came, so there was no need for jumpers. Literally plug-and-play. One guy on here had the same issue as me, and he said that he replaced the harness from the UI board to the motherboard and that corrected his issue. I mean... What's the odds of it being the harness if there's no damage to it. A real anomaly to say the least

@@burrheadjr wanted to let you know that I filed a complaint with parts doctor. I found out that they received a bad batch of UI boards from GE and that's most likely why my board never lit up. I ordered a new one from Sears parts direct. I'll let you know what it ends up doing. What a cluster!

What a total POS dishwasher! I've replaced both boards and the door lock! Still wont run! Put into test mode (hold down start and select cycle for 5seconds). I get error code 817

This is the most aggravating dishwasher ever designed. The disassembly is unlike anything else. GE has lost all credibility with me. I have been doing appliance repairs for 42 years, so I speak with some authority. Basically you replace one board, if that doesn't work you replace the other one or just replace both. The customer loses all faith when you do it that way. GE dishwashers are crap. Avoid buying one at all costs. I highly recommend Bosch dishwashers.

I will never buy GE products again! Total garbage anymore.

Its a shame, because the mechanical parts seem to work well, but the original computer parts are what give it trouble.
