I had my tank burst after this line froze. A lot of people in amazon comments are having tanks refreezing. Im going to try super insulating the water dispenser tank, door and follow your advice in this video. great help thanks

Hi, for those of you who still have this problem after installing the heater kit, my solution was to add spray foam insulation to the cavity above the water line. I made a small hole just above the water line and used about a half a can of non expanding door and window spray foam. I put the entire length of the straw and slowly retracted it, filling the cavity. You will have excess foam which you can clean up with Isopropyl alcohol and can remove any other excess after it dries. This has solved the problem for me.

Just used this video to install a heater on my water line. The instructions were worthless to me. The video made it super simple. Thanks a bunch!!!!

your guide helped me fit my heater kit perfectly. Just a few caveats to my experience. One piece of the white plastic housing that holds the dispenser lever hinge ( ?) was brittle and broke off, preventing the tab by the spring from staying in place. I super glued a small piece of flat metal over the area so it would now hold the tab. Also, where I placed the red splice blocks matters because mine ended up right behind the plugs on the circuit board which prevented the panel from snapping back in place,....so...I had to redo the splices a bit higher. But the actual heater kit went in fine. I also used a tiny piece of "rope caulk" instead of using messy silicon around the water tube.

the rope caulking is a great idea. I'm glad this helped even though it's getting pretty old!

Update; after having this heater installed for several weeks, I can say that it works very well. I have run the freezer on "9" now and it will get down to -20 and the water still does not freeze. I should have done this years ago.

I have followed your video but something is wrong my heater does not heat up but water dispenser nozzle showing is not blocked as I can blow through it the heater does not heat I follow directions I connected to the red number two position and to the black and white number 6 position I think please tell me the correct position wires to connect and offer ideas to check other places for frozen water as I said the water nozzle blowing through it blows through so the line maybe crack but there's no water on the floor
@jonathanlackman71987 жыл бұрын
If this is done correctly, the element in the silver foil will get warm and you should be able to feel it with your finger or measure it with a probe or infrared thermometer.
@jonathanlackman71987 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have two separate problems. If you can blow through the hose and it still doesn't work then something is wrong in the water supply or valve. Check if you have water to the back of the fridge. Then check if you have water to the hose going in the bottom of the door. If you have hooked up the wires correctly I'm not sure why it wouldn't work unless you have a different control board or fridge model for some reason.

I tried this today, and the white backing plate that you don't show being unscrewed, nor removed, seems stuck on the bottom right. I thought it might be the lightbulb but wasn't it. Did you have any issue removing the backing plate? Afraid to pull too hard, as all the videos showed it being loose, after removing the screws, and coming right off.

@@pauledgar2206 same with mine. Only had three of the four screws. Lower right was glued on. Had to bust it to get it off. So stupid that they did that!

@uawsux4 ай бұрын
why would you want to use silicone to keep the heat off of that water tube... the problem is that heater fails but behind the tube is an inch and a half of foam insulation... if that is the original equipment heater.... my heater on my freezer was behind was not in front like yours I had to cut a door inside and scoop out foam inside the heater is there.... but while I had it all taken apart anyway and I did not want another failure.... I drilled 16 tiny holes through to the outside and then place the tube against the holes covered it with duct tape refilled with foam this must be done warm you cannot have cold on foam it will not foam.... works fine...

Can I assume, being that both wires on the heater are white, that I can install said wires to the fridge side wires and it won't matter what white wire goes to which? The instruction don't say if the top or the bottom white wire on the heater is for the red or for the black/white wire and why I ask.

Uh_oh. This morning I had no water coming out of my ge refrigerator. I think incident pay attention correctly, and now my refrigerator does not seem to be turning on.... the light still works, but the light that used to turn on when I hit the buttons and ice dispenser are are not working either. :(. Any suggestions what I could have done wrong? I connected to the red and the black/white line. I did buy the non-ge kit, but it seemed like just a wire, so I don’t think it is an issue with the kit. I checked the fuse, and it looks good. I have a voltmeter, but i am wondering if i should surrender before I make matters worse

Can the front panel burn out if the water heater crimps (sp?) are not installed correctly?
@ramirofernandez23275 жыл бұрын
Don't buy the heater. Try this: Shove a metal wire (stainless) of about 18 gauge up the tube to about 5 inches. Leave about 1 to 1/2 inch outside hanging. Come back next day and water flows! You may say it is stupid, but there is some science behind: The water freezes in the tube because of cold built up, an because it is an insulating material, it stays freezing the water inside. The metal wire transmits the cold outside and the water does not freeze. It is a 1 cent wire against $20-40 heater.
