I have two gas burners on my stove that will not light. The problem was poorly manufactured igniters. They worked well for the firs year and just as the warranty expired, they began to fail! Fortunately, I have a little background in technology. Be careful as you work with gas and electrical devices. Be patient and thoughtful. Do not exceed your comfort level.

As always I pay attention to weird things in your videos and I found myself wondering if your stove always looks that clean or if you gave it a good scrub before the video!! Mine only looks that nice for about 5 minutes after I clean it! 🤣

I am thankful that I have the ability to fix things, but this is an example of the hidden costs behind buying less expensive items from big box stores. It seems like you always have to spend more money after the purchase at least, when you can fix things yourself, you don’t spend as much money on labor costs.

I like your gas stove...I like gas stoves in general but always seem to have had electric stoves through the years. I know how to change out burner plug ins to for electric stoves from watching my husband do it for years....but now if I ever get my "dream" gas range I'll understand how the ignition piece's work!! Thanks!!

I love gas, stoves. I like being able to see the open flame when I’m cooking, which is not often, ha ha! I just feel like I have more control because I am after all, a control, freak :-). This was not our dream gas stove, but it was affordable and now you can see the downside of buying big box appliances. I hope you’re staying warm up there. Things are a muddy mess down here take care, and stay kind, young lady!

Well done and perfect disclaimer at the beginning WP. Were those Amazon sourced parts or with the stove manufacturer? Bet the time to get them was crazy long. Suz the Q is happy like you now, yinz can pick any burner without thinking of which one works! Cold weather coming, hope the horses have better footing up in the corral. Have a good one!
@WaynePolcin
@WaynePolcin Жыл бұрын
Hi moofdogg. The parts came directly from GE. The list price was $11.30 plus shipping. I linked to it in the description. To my surprise, it only took about 1 week to get the parts. The quality of the aftermarket igniters was superior to the OEM part. I shouldn’t have igniter problems for the life of the stove. This really does demonstrate that there are potentially hidden costs to owning an appliance purchased from a big box store. You pay less upfront but you will keep paying after the purchase. At least I didn’t have to pay for labor. It is nice not to have to grab a lighter when we want to use those burners. Horse yard is looking pretty good right now. Those boys have spread the hay around just as we planned. After three days, they are still eating from the core of the round bale. I will get some video before the snow accumulates, hopefully. Take care of yourself, my good friend.

I followed your gas > LP video and it helped me troubleshoot a couple issues! I'm having one issue still with the long centre burner, it starts and has proper flame control but it will "poof/puff" once every 20-30 seconds while running. Hard to describe, as I haven't found any resolutions online yet, but the flame will be running and then almost like a spurt of air is in the line and comes out which makkes the flame larger for a split second. None of the other burners have this. Any idea's on that? Great vids!

Yeah, it's the normal way of life nowadays. The high end appliances are way out of my league, financially. As long as a person has the skills and desire to DIY, then big box store shopping is the way to go. Thanks for the feedback, Jolkrae!

That's easy. Her name is Suzie, lol! Just kidding. The range was brand new when the video was made. However, I have found that by disassembling the stove top the way I did in the video makes it a lot easier to get a thorough cleaning, but that's not practical to do every day, just when the yuck gets intense.

So I see everyone talking about the ignitors, but not at all about how the knob relates to the ignitor. I have a gas cook top where the center burner ignitor will not ignite when I turn the center knob but it will ignite if I turn any of the other four knobs. What causes this?
@WaynePolcin
@WaynePolcin 11 ай бұрын
The center knob is probably bad. Each knob has a switch which triggers the ALL the igniters. This why if you keep the center know on, turning any other know will ignite not only it's burner but the center burner also. I'm not sure if you can order just the switch of if you have to order the whole knob. Hope this helps!

What is inside the spark igniter? Can you fix the spark igniter without having to replace?
@WaynePolcin
@WaynePolcin 6 ай бұрын
It would not be cost effective to attempt repairing the ignition module. The module components are embedded in a potting compound, which is very difficult to remove.

Waynw what's the difference betwern natural gas and propane? My stove is propane and my warranty company thinks it's regular gas. They're offering a selection of gas stoves.
@WaynePolcin
@WaynePolcin Жыл бұрын
The difference is that the two gasses are delivered to your range at different pressures. Propane comes to your range under higher pressure that natural gas. So you must use smaller orifices to restrict the high pressure propane from producing extremely large flames. So if you currently have a propane stove you will need to swap it out for another propane stove or install smaller orifices in a natural gas range. I hope this helps.

Hi, have a similar gas range that started making a noise that I guess is related to gas supply. Started when opened the new gas tank and the flames make noise and flames are sideways instead of vertical. Burners are super clean

I think one of my knob switches is bad. I can get the burner to light using the other knobs since they all spark together. But when I turn the designated knob it won’t spark. I replaced the igniter already. Is the switch an easy fix? I’m a total novice with this stuff. It’s not a big deal but I was thinking about tinkering around with it for the experience.
@WaynePolcin
@WaynePolcin Жыл бұрын
You would have to shut off the gas and electric to the appliance. Then you would have to replace the entire Igniter Switch Cable Harness for all the burner controls. I have not personally done this but it doesn't appear to be complicated. You can purchase the Igniter Switch Cable assembly here www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Spark-Ignition-Switch/WB18X31213/4920884 Just be safe around the gas and be sure to kill the power to the appliance because the igniter control circuit is 120 VAC. Be slow, thoughtful and deliberate and you shouldn't have any trouble.

@WaynePolcin
@WaynePolcin Жыл бұрын
@@Jsxvr. for the knobs that are not working, you should be able to see a wire attached to each one of them. Make sure the wires are positively attached to the knobs. If the wires are all positively attached, and you still have no spark, it could be that those knobs are bad. Because each knob has a switch in it that sends the command through the wire to start the sparking. That switch is activated when you put the knob in the light position. Let me know if you are able to verify this. Also, move the knob, real slowly back and forth past the light position that’s marked on the knob and see if you can find a spot where the igniter does work.
