Thank you! I just spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to maneuver the metal frame that covers the access to the door handle screws. I’ll never buy a GE microwave again; but for now you helped salvage the 3 yr old one I currently have. Btw, the replacement handles cost nearly as much as the microwave so I had a friend print one on his 3D printer. It’s not the smooth shiny plastic, but it still looks good.

If you see this…How did you finally get the metal frame out? Getting the door off and the plastic moulding was a breeze, but this is the part I’m stuck on. All the screws are out, but when I try to pop the metal frame out from the plastic tabs it doesn’t budge and the METAL bends.

What you do is remove the trim piece on the door. Then the door simply lifts off the hinges. Agree that Mr. Unconventional forgot how to show that.

I go away on a business trip… come home… something is normally broke. None of the kids or wife own up to it! This time it’s the microwave handle. I have the same model as you, so your directions reinforced the direction I was going. I did get a new handle and replace the old one, but I am keeping the old one unless my replacement breaks. I like the idea of using a drywall screw like your directions.

Thanks for sharing, as the bottom portion of my door handle broke. Easy to follow video. The tricky part was taking off the door, as I had to take off the plastic casing to make it easier. The bottom portion of my handle broke, so I flipped the handle and put the replacement screw on top. Not sure it will make a difference, but thought it might help. We'll see how long it lasts.

If you’re referring to the handle peeling that’s the same problem we’re having. Taking the handle off and going to paint it. Hopefully that works. May be preemptive and use the drywall screws while at it….

Thank you, worked perfectly! My handle snapped, it wasn't just the screw, so I needed to buy another. Unfortunately GE sells the handle for about the same price as a microwave, but there were some cheaper options on ebay. One note though: on your door removal video, GE has some models that have a different tab - you have to pull a tab out of the door instead of pushing one in to allow the top pin to pull out. We appreciate you posting this, and agree that GE (and many other brands) are making poor-quality products.

No problem w/ washer/dryer after 7½ years but I've fixed the 4 y/o DW a couple times & the front panel is rusting through not to mention the 2nd silverware basket is now broken. Fridge bought same time as DW & was repaired under warranty. Handle just broke on microwave that is less than 2 yrs. old.

Wow, same GE appliances, same issues. My microwave handle broke at the bottom the same as yours. The display screen also goes in and out at times. My GE refrigerator had to replace a fan on it. I believe it was an evaporator fan.. issues with the ice maker. Lucky for me no issues with the dishwasher or stove yet. Lol But thanks for the video I repaired my handle the same way.

Lol, it's been very disheartening considering how much these things cost. We went through two water valves on our fridge in two years. I called GE expressed my disappointment to the quality folks and they offered to repair the fridge and replace the valve. I told them that it would likely happen again in a year, so they cut me a $100 check and we bought a Berkey Water Filter and cut the water off from the fridge.

Great! That's my goal with my videos. For mine at the top hinge on the door there is a plastic "tab" that I had to push in in order for it to clear the metal portion on the microwave where the door slides into. When I push that tab and push the door up it's able to clear the metallic hinge portion on the microwave itself. I hope that helps if you have any more questions let me know

@@UnconventionalThinker Thanks again! It’s all fixed, and my wife thinks I’m an expert. One hint for the next guy: use a magnetic Phillips screwdriver to replace the screws into the frame. For my hinges, I had to remove the top/front of the vent over the door. It runs the width of the microwave, but only has one screw and came right out. The handle still had the screw firmly in place, but the cheap plastic strip it was mounted through was shattered. I was able to glue a flat piece down as a base, and secure the screw head with a washer.

Great video.I have a Cafe microwave and my lower handle did the same thing. It's out of warranty so I had a repairman come out. The handle is not available. He would have to order a new door. He called GE to order the door and it's $425. And it's our of stock. They don't know when it will be available. I'm going to give this a try. Was it difficult getting the door off. I will say there tends to be higher quality appliances when purchased from a local appliance store, as big box stores tend to work special products from all the appliance vendors and they use cheaper parts so that these stores can sell products for cheaper than a local appliance store.

The only suggestion would be to look at how the door latch is contacting the microwave or to see if the latch mechanism has been damaged.

I have a GE Cafe microwave (model CSA1201RSS02) and the handle also broke off .. I feel Iike it broke off at the black plastic frame part and I would have to replace the whole door unit 😞 . I got the door and the plastic border (actually cracked in the process) off but I cannot get the metal part removed to access the screws to the handle. I removed the screws that were holding the metal center piece in place but it will not budge. I see the little plastic clamps around the edge but it will not move even when I pull those back. Is there something I am missing? Mine is a GE Over-the-range Oven PSA9120SF3SS

Are you referring to metal part as the metal frame within the door? Have you seen the schematics of your door assembly on reliableparts.com that may help? There are these clip features on the door front where the glass resides that hold the metal frame to that door front. I found that I had to see what was holding that metal frame in place because it does appear on your door model there is maybe one or two screws that retain the metal frame to the plastic front once you've removed those I would imagine the clips are holding that metal frame in place so you'll have to locate those and try to move them as to release the frame

If you look at the top hinge you should see on the door itself. There is like a black tab that you want to put in so that it clears the hinge and then you should be able to lift the door up off the hinges once that tab has cleared the hinge itself

Why did you remove the door? All I did was pry off trim. It exposed the screws and I removed them and mounted the handle. Did all the door mounted. Seems you did it the hard way and removed too much... Not saying your method did not work but why do it that way?

I feel your pain. For something that carries load I don't know why they decided to make it from the brittle plastic that they used. The only way I believe you can buy a new door is through GE. If you follow the link I sent earlier then type that model number into the search it should show you all the parts it can replace. Find the door assembly and look for the handle. For my microwave it was WB15X21101, currently it's sold out. GE appliances are not very good especially the stackable washer and Dishwashers, we have constant problems here at our apartment complex

Truth! Do you know if they were Home Depot or Lowe's version? They tend to use cheaper parts vs. buying from a legitimate appliance store.
