Wow, your videos are great! I have had a Gen 1 Opal for 2 Years and 9 months, I bought it through Amazon with the 5 year warranty. It just went out and will produce no ice! Filed a claim and they said they would simply refund all my purchase price. Decided to check on youtube and found your videos. I opened my Opal up and found the disgusting mold as you said it would have and decided not to fix mine and just buy the Gen 2. Your video's are by far the best on this subject and I am honestly glad that I am able to agree with you 100% on the new design 2nd Gen. keep up the excellent work (if you want to!) and thank you for your videos!

Wow what an amazing comment. Thanks so much for watching my videos and I'm glad that they helped you. I had to have my Gen 1 replaced 3 times due to problems and that was BEFORE the mold issues. It just is a bad unit all around. The Gen 2 is really a much better product. I hope that you'll really enjoy yours!

Well done! I purchased the Gen 1 by mistake and was thinking of keeping it instead of returning it and getting the Gen 2. Not anymore, it's going back! Thank you!😄

Thank you for taking the time to make this! Our Gen one has been on it's last legs for a while and just finally kicked the bucket. With black Friday coming up, I wanted to find fair breakdowns of the two 44lbs makers and the Opal 2.0. After these videos, I'll probably still go with the 2.0 despite the higher output in the 44's.

This is amazing. I have an OG month 2 opal. We’ve loved it. Had it forever. And the older it’s gotten. The more mildew it grows. It makes mildew as fast as it makes ice. We were considering a 2.0. This sold us. Lol.

It really just becomes a mold maker doesn't it? I hope you'll enjoy the Gen 2. Remember to watch my latest video that has tips and advice on how to keep it working well.

Thank you!! The first thing I noticed that was a BIG difference and a huge mistake (that they have now fixed for an extra $&&) was the size of water reservoir. The first was exactly 1 gallon which made nice if you were buying purified water. The 2.0 is only .75 gallon. They now have introduced 2.0 XL that has the 1 gallon reservoir.

Great videos. I actually run CLR through the machine followed up with a bleach solution then several times rinses and that stuff works great! I also attached a small auxiliary fan to the side actuated by a WiFi Sonoff TM16 temperature activation module so as to automatically turn the fan on at a specific temperature. The unit would just not make any ice until I figured out these Gen 1 units have a horrible ventilation system and the compressor easily overheats and just shuts down. Would be nice if GE or someone would've mentioned that! 😂

So glad I came across your video about the mold. I looked at my internal reservoir and it was disgusting. I am really curious whether GEN two models have resolved this problem.

I have yet to have any problems with mold in my Gen 2 since the first video I ever posted. I also have purposely NOT been taking care of it properly so that when I do a followup video for you guys you can see if there is any buildup.

You need to add this to your tool arsenal! Great for corners, edges& small spaces. Cleans that reservoir slick as a whistle. Pour water in it and flush it right on out the hose… WHAT?! I can’t put a picture? A stiff bristled, flat artist paint brush. Mine’s about 1/2”.

I think without holes in the bottom of the ice tray its probably keeping the ice colder. And therefore less water.

Elaine -- would you recommend using the water filter? I did not see you go over that in your video. Also, with or without the filter what water do you recommend. Thanks.
@ElaineBarlow Жыл бұрын
I actually don't use them in the Gen 2 at all mainly because I am only using RO water in it. But normally, I would say if you have the usual horrendous tap water a filter will help somewhat.

Are you alright? You've posted this message on a bunch of my videos, like repeatedly, and I'm unsure of why you keep doing that. If you want one just go to Best Buy (thats where I got mine) I'm not sure what you mean by a scam? Just go to Best Buy and pick one up. Or order from Best Buy online and go pick it up at your local store. That's what I did.

Mold within days as well in my gen 1. It’s disgusting! Having to clean my entire machine once a week
@ElaineBarlow2 жыл бұрын
I was also. It became a such a depressing cycle. As a few others have said it COULD be that your UV bulbs are not working or are old etc. You may have to have them replaced especially if you've opened it up and cleaned inside and not found the source inside.
