Excellent tutorial. Thank you very much. I wasn't able to pull the wires out far enough from the firewall to access the wire nuts so had to cut the existing wire and splice in the new one. Worked out great!

Oh My GOD this is exactly what I needed. My gas oven isnt quite the same as the one you worked on but is a GE nonetheless. The link to the igniter you supplied is a frigidaire...I cant find one that is made for my oven that is nearly that cheap ($65 from GE). are they somewhat universal?

Thank you for this video. One question: how did you that the problem was the igniter and not just the low fuel/air combustion ? Thanks
@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance3 жыл бұрын
Thanks John, Three years of fixing Oven’s I’ve come to find out that 90% of the time in oven that is not performing well is having problems due to a worn out igniter.

Hello Scott! I have an oven that will not get to the hottest temsp, like beyond 400 and sometimes I smell a bit of gas. I watched this video but it seems like my burner igniter is glowing bright and hot. it does start the gas burner tube fine. it also seems to glow blue fairly wide, maybe .75 of an inch. What I did notice is the blue flame as it's heating up will start to flicker somewhat on and off, in some cases not stay completely burning either like one side is half lit, the other is fully lit. Is it possible the gas burner tube is going bad? Oven is 20 year old but in good shape otherwise.
@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance Жыл бұрын
Hey Stan, I would change the igniter. If the resistance from the igniter isn’t correct the safety valve won’t let in enough gas and you’ll get a flicker.
@JohnHolmes69 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this explanation (and for original poster's question). I was trying to figure out why igniter would be issue if gas was in fact igniting. This makes more sense! I am now going to try your fix and I'll report back on my results.@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance

Other than the fact that the oven is taking forever to heat, is there any other indication that you have a burnt out igniter? I have a GE profile double propane oven and BOTH ovens started taking forever to heat up. I find if I turn on the large burner on the top of the stove, it jump starts the oven and it starts heating up quicker. The strange thing is that it will get up to the desired temperature, and then some point during cooking, the heat drops (presumably the igniter turns off and on and stays "off"), but the display still reads whatever I set the oven to. I assume that if I have a double oven, I have 2 separate igniters. I am going to give this a try to both of them - we've had our oven for about 7 years and I cook quite often.
@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance8 ай бұрын
Nice job, could it have to do with the pressure from your propane tank?
@shagadelk78 ай бұрын
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance I don't think so. The valve behind the stove is turned on completely and we haven't moved it since we moved in, and this is a new problem. We also heat with propane and have a propane fire place is no issue there. The burners on the stove also work perfectly fine. This problem seems to be focused on ovens only.

@@shagadelk7great explanation. Your video is well shot and well scripted. I'm going to order the part and give it a go. I'm commenting on _this_ thread bc the op had a good question: It would be helpful if in your description you included a bulleted list of symptoms leading to your diagnosis (and maybe a list of things that mean it's not likely this). I know my symptom (oven digital panel looks like oven should be operating normally but never seems to "turn on." Broil still works fine. Accompanying this is a sickly sounding heat exhaust fan: I fear I may have overheated something critical with the broiler (I left broiler on HI "too long" the night before I discovered oven not working). Cheers!

There are actual professional appliance repairmen making videos - INCLUDING- troubleshooting the issue & replacement of each component... good job fixing it yourself... but how many people are gonna assume this is the issue ... it could be 4-5 other things keeping a gas oven from heating up...
@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance3 жыл бұрын
Sure can. Although 80% of the time it’s the igniter which is cheap and easy to replace. Always think: Occum’s Razor, what’s the most likely cause of the oven not heating.

Thanks a lot for the video but I did run into two issues that I noticed people reported on another person's video. - First was one of the screws that held in the ignitor was really hard to get out. It seemed like the threads were not catching no matter what I did until I had my wife use a screwdriver to put pressure on the head of the screw to get it out. -Second, I think I know why you saw the wires spliced on the oven you showed in the video. The plastic plug the ignitor would plug into in the stove just doesn't come out enough to unplug the old ignitor. It looks like the only way to get it out is to pull the oven out and remove the back. A comment on that other person's video says a repair person came and just spliced the wires since it would be more work to do it the other way. Between the screw and trying to get the plug out it took me over an hour of my time for a job that should have been very simple. I blame GE for poor design.

My igniter gets orange and hot, but the gas doesn't light. Is that because the igniter is not hot enough for the gas to light? I had this issue in the past before and replaced the igniter once before a few years ago. Just wondering if these igniters don't last long.
