GE refrigerator water filter won't fit in holder FIX, How to RPWFE

I couldn't install my filter because no matter how hard I tried pushing it into it's housing it wouldn't fit, after fully opening the hinge/ housing with a wooden spoon handle, the filter installed and easily fit into the housing, good luck comment, if the video helped 👍

Thank you! Your advice addresses an important gap in the manufacturer's instructions on the replacement filter package, which fail to note that you need to swing the filter housing out before removing the old filter. I didn't have a wooden spoon handle with the right diameter, but eventually found a piece of flatware whose handle was a good enough fit. Put the wooden spoon in and moved the inside to the fully out position and then the cartridge went in and locked into place!!!! No pressure pushing in the filter at all. Just hold in place and swing back into the holder. The directions never said it didn’t need any pressure! Your wooden spoon did the trick! My cousin is so grateful. She is back in ice and cold water! Thanks! had the same problem! BTW, there is a empty filter bypass available for those of us who don't want/need filtering. GE is supposed to send that part with the fridge but they don't! One can get it for free from GE if you call their number. They are all Sneaky, I know! Also when you put that authentic GE bypass in, the panel will say every time you get water or ice "Not filtering". Fine by me, we have excellent quality town water.

Mr Ramirez, I love you!! You are the ONLY one who knows what the problem was. I bought a generic filter from Amazon. Tried to fit in and it would not stay. I bought another on Amazon but chose the GE filter. Same problem. I called GE and they said all the filters sold on Amazon are bogus. Amazon returned my money and told me to keep both filters. Went to Lowes the next day and bought a authentic GE filter. Still would not work........I screamed all kinds of words. Mind you we are having a heat wave in Ohio. 2 days with no ice or cold, filtered water. GE web site was useless. Then I got on KZbin and found you! You are the only one who has figured out this problem. Once again I love you.......the ice and water is flowing again!

Comment from another video that worked: For those of you having trouble getting the new filter in. Stick the butt end of a sharpie into the white hole and turn the white piece so it lines up with the grey outer piece. Worked like a charm.

You got me on the right track, but I couldn’t figure out exactly what you meant. So….to help further, you’ll know it’s not going to work if the gray and white parts of the hinge/housing aren’t properly aligned. Push the inner white part, using the end of the spoon, to meet up with the gray part. The end of a sharpie works well also…. THANK YOU!
