Since we've had multiple repairs costing over $700 in seven years of ownership of our $1200 GE (POS) side by side, when it started this leak I decided to just "bite the bullet" and buy a decent one ... only to find that a decent fridge anymore costs about $2,000. In desperation, I turned to youtube and found this LIFESAVING or at least money saving video. Thanks so much. Problem solved.
@KetoKevin6 жыл бұрын
I’m glad it helped. I haven’t had to make any repairs other than things I have been able to do myself. The touch pad is definitely decrepit and has been for a long time. I need to change the auger in the ice maker. I have a new one but i keep putting it off. Things are definitely more expensive now...even though they keep saying inflation is non-existent.

Thanks for your video! Wife almost called a repair man and they would have charged us just for the visit. But after watching your video I cleaned the tube and vacuumed the air evaporator which had dust all over it. Then chiseled and cleaned the inside of the freezer from bottom, front and back, up to the ice maker. Thanks again!

Hello Kevin, This morning my wife said "I'm sick of the refrigerator leaking onto the floor, we're buying a new fridge." I said wait, give me a chance to see if I can fix it. 10 minutes later I'm watching your (excellent, to the point and concise) video and I'm certain you're showing me exactly what the problem is with my freezer. Around an hour later, drain tube unclogged, everything cleaned up, and the freezer is back to operating condition. Thanks for saving me a bunch of money. Liked and subscribed. Best Regards, Tim

This was exactly the problem I had! The first time I poured hot water down the drain hole inside the freezer and melted ice that had clogged it. This time that didn't work, and this video led me to a drain pipe clogged with sludge. Fixed in an hour, saved big money! THANK YOU!!!

You just saved me a lot of money. A freeze pop fell down and sealed the hole. Thanks, this helped figure out my problem. In my case, the tube with a trap did not plug up. Instead, the inner rubber sealing flappy thing that the tube fits around had contracted or shifted with age to plug up the hole itself (most easily seen at 2:10 in this video). So I cut as much of that inner rubber part as I could without damaging the outer rubber sleeve(?), inserted the plastic tube into that sleeve, and then tried sealing the two with a zip tie. I hope it holds!
@KetoKevin6 жыл бұрын
It’s not really under pressure so I bet it works for you👍🏻
@fredhag6 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's held for a week now. On an unrelated note but same fridge... I have one of the GEs in which the water dispenser freezes every 2-4 weeks. I had installed a little heater that kept the tube from freezing for a year or two, but it's not working any longer. Now, I use a syringe and small plastic tubing to act like a hot water catheter up the water tube. I guess some people stick weed whacker cord up the tube and leave it there and that prevents freezing.

Thank you for your video. I like to DIY fix things, too. Although we'll see how well this works, I just used very hot water and baking soda like the GE manual said to do but used a 10 ml syringe instead of a turkey baster. A few squirts (about a cup's worth of water) and its flowing again.

If you have a Kenmore Elite or similar....Put away the hair dryer. The plastic where the ice freezes is flexible. Ice isn't. Tap the ice surface vertically a few inches in from the edges with a hammer and it will break off in nice big chunks which you can push out the front under the door. Collect it in a food tray. Don't remove the door. Do not take the icemaker or the panel off. The problem is in the down spout with the flap on it. No zip tie needed to clean the plastic tube. It is easily removed by cutting the zip tie retainer used for shipping only. The tube can be removed easily by twisting and pulling down. Once removed you can see the detritus buildup under the flap. Simply run water from the sink thru from the top end and flush out all the crap. The flap will not prevent the water from flowing, so if it does tap the tube and hold the flap open to get all the junk out. Conclusion,,, the flap is there to keep the bugs out..Slide It back on to the tube interface and twist it up. It should be secure. If you want slide a zip tie up BEFORE putting the tube on to clear any other junk or ice out of the hole. Defrost to be sure. Good luck.Bob Richard1 second agoIf you have a Kenmore Elite or similar....Put away the hair dryer. The plastic where the ice freezes is flexible. Ice isn't.
