Note for an international audience - in the UK and I believe most of Europe, the dishwasher is only plumbed into the cold water supply and includes a built-in water heater. Running the hot water before the dishwasher will make no difference at all. The other tips are all good though :)

@@sugar4o Sure, you MAY use it, but it's not required and so most households use cold water only. Btw some dishwashers use cold water to help the condensation, so that your dishes dry better. So hot water would actually worsen the performance.

For those worried about "wasting water" to heat it before running the dishwasher, try this...completely clean your kitchen, then wash your hands last using hot water. You've likely got food or a cleaner on your hands anyway, right? Now, you can start your dishwasher--with hot water--and not worry about wasting it. No worries! 🙏 BTW, hot water in the first rinse cycle DOES actually make a difference, so this is worth doing. Great tip, Kallie!

I'd also like to point out that, depending on where you live and the time of year, your cold tap water may already be quite warm or hot. My cold tap has been soooo hot this summer because I live in a place where it's over 100° every day 😊

What I do that works out well is run the hot water but collect it into a pitcher and then pour the still cool water into my gravity fed water purifier (Berkey). It usually takes two fills of the pitcher before I get hot water. If we don't need to fill the Berkey up at that time, I will either sit the pitcher aside until we do, or use it to water plants or fill birdbath. At any rate that would be water I would use in any case so it doesn't go to waste.

We re-did our kitchen at the beginning of covid (in our 35 year old home). In addition to the regular sized dishwasher (that's just like yours) we did a Fischer & Paykel dishwasher drawer and it's AWESOME! It fits those extra things, and it makes it much easier to never have dishes in your sink. It was in the $700 range (I can't remember how much exactly) but SO worth it. We figure when we become empty nesters (four kids, almost out of the house) we'll just use the drawer for the two of us. Thank you for reading the manuals for us!

I have a Bosch dishwasher and I love it. I have no proof of what I am about to say BUT the coincidence is to strong. I have used pods for years and my wife was getting sick of having to unwrap them. Happy wil happy life. I buy pods with dissolving wrapper on them. After a couple weeks of using these pods(which were a name brand) I started getting an e24 or e25 code every 4 to 6 loads. Keep in mind I have had this dishwasher for more than 4 years. I clean it monthly and we didn’t change anything else with how we load the machine. The only change has been the pods. Being stubborn I finished the 90 pods cursing every tie I had to drain the unit and reset the codes. I have switched back to the old pods in the wrappers and after 3m weeks I have not had a single error code. Just one man’s experience. Great video.

Very good advice. The plumber recently told me to run the hot water before starting the dishwasher. His reasoning is that it saves on the wear and tear on the appliance as it normally heats the water before running. I was also told when I purchased my new Bosch about 3 years ago to never rinse the dishes. The dish wash works best when it has actual food to remove. I also always use the finish Jet-Dry and the indicator tells me when more is needed to be added. There are never water spots on the glassware and everything sparkles. I did have a bottle of dish wash gel to use up and found that it doesn't work anywhere near a well as the pods. What I absolutely love with the Bosch is the upper 3rd. drawer for flat items and the adjustable middle drawer.

Great video! One thing I would add is if you ever get dishes that come out smelling like wet dog, that's bacteria growing in the dishwasher. Thank you. Your point just supported mine. Dishwashers can become a disgusting thing with food continually being fed into it. It’s much easier (and not “wasteful”) and more hygienic to rinse in the sink and use the dishwasher as the final step of final clean and sanitizing. Sinks are (well we hope they are) cleaned regularly, and that is what they are used for. It is very easy to rinse the food off the dishes in the sink (with a food catcher in the drain) and discard it into the trash, and it practically eliminates the prospect of having to deal with a bacteria-filled dishwasher that smells god awful, with multiple filters (in some cases) over and over, with no weekly vinegar interventions. Doesn’t that just waste vinegar? Just kidding :) Dishwasher = SANITIZING. It also helps if you have a good professional faucet sprayer to knock off all that food, but that’s another review. :)

My mother gets a high out of two things in life: 1. Stacking coupons on top of sales to save ridiculous amounts of money. 2. Geometrically stuffing the dishwasher to a capacity that I would argue less than 1% of people could accomplish, which is more than double what the prongs/slots would suggest is full. Bowls and plates are placed in specific ways at specific spots and specific angles to allows more bowls and plates to be placed between them and then more in between those. And all this is done in a way that maintains water flow. It's a remarkable feat of engineering.

So when they brought the new one I did actually read the manual. lol then ensued the back and forth debate with my husband that he was loading the dishwasher incorrectly 😂. Also, it is NOT recommended to put sharp knives in the dishwasher. They will dull faster that way. Just hand wash them.

I hand wash sharp knives, wooden things including spoons, bowls, etc., non-stick skillets or just about any skillet or large pot, or large container, or wine glasses ever since I loaded them and broke the stem of one when it fell over onto another dish! As a result I have almost as many dishes to wash by hand as there are in the dishwasher? Am I alone on this?

@@PatThecat-n2l Two parts to this... one is that, in theory, heating the metal can cause it to become softer, or gain a 'memory' for the deformed shape that the edge gets into through normal wear and tear. Material memory means when you reheat the material, it wants to revert to the shape it had when it was at that temperature in the past. There are some really cool videos of this on YT here and there. However, I don't think the dishwasher gets any hotter than about 65C, which is way, way far from the deformation line even for soft metals like gold or aluminum, let alone stainless steel. The other part though is that really good kitchen knives are made from variations of carbon steel, not stainless steel (which is more durable, but doesn't take an edge as well). These knives rust easily, and the chemicals in dishwasher soap accelerate that process, as does letting them air dry (moisture + oxygen = rust). The edge is super thin, which means more surface area, which means it rusts first. So while the heat of the dishwasher doesn't hurt the knife, soaking it in caustic soap and letting it air dry definitely will. (the *other* other reason not to put a good knife in the dishwasher is that they often have wooden handles which really can't handle it) TLDR carbon steel knives will rust faster in the dishwasher. Stainless, not really an issue.

Yeah! Definitely one of the things I've learned that makes a huge difference is not overloading it. I used to put plates and bowls into the washer very tightly, and sometimes the things would just come out dirty. Now I leave ample space and the results are just better. What you said about doing an additional run is definitely true. Better than finding out most of your stuff isn't clean and having to do it again at a time where you need your stuff clean. Cool video!

Anyhow, you forgot one small tip and that is to use the rinsing aid by adding it to your dishwasher dispenser. I recently watched a KZbin video about detergent that really opened my eyes. The presenter conducted numerous tests and concluded that detergent pods can actually be too concentrated for some users. For instance, people with water softeners don’t require as much detergent as those with hard water. After learning this, I switched to powdered detergent and now use only half the recommended amount. I don’t rinse my dishes, and they come out clean every time! I believe the video is still available online-definitely worth checking out!

This is all fantastic advice. I've been an in-home service tech for 17 years and I really just watch these videos to see what kind of bad advice people are giving out there; but she had everything spot on. The only thing I would add are: 1. Run your garbage disposal before starting the dishwasher. 2. Use rinse aid. 3. If you use heavy wash, there's no need to run the water at the sink until it's hot first.
@vernellevale2226
@vernellevale2226 4 ай бұрын
TIP: Save power & water by installing a recirculation pump that’s mounted to the water heater itself. A 120-volt pump mounts to the hot water line and includes a timer. At the sink farthest from the water heater, a thermostatically controlled bypass valve is installed; hot water is automatically circulated through the hot water line at pre-set times. So I now have instant hot water at 8:00 pm to run my dishwasher.

We have a Bosch dishwasher and I hate it. One thing that made a difference for me was that the Bosch tech told me that using the Bosch 'recommended' Finish products is nonsense. They don't work best for Bosch, they just have like a promo partnership. I ditched Finish and things are much better. Also, lots of dishwashers have a rinse aid dosing setting option. They generally come out of the box set to the highest dosing setting. If your dishes have a chemical taste/smell after dishwashing, check your manual for how to reduce the rinse aid dosing level. Level two or three works well for our Bosch.

It really has an awful post- wash taste! I'm in Australia, and I have found the perfect Bosch combo is Aldi (Logix) dishwasher tablets and our Coles (big supermarket) brand rinse aid. Every so often I chuck some Euca powder (natural dishwasher powder based on various sodium ingredients and eucalyptus oil) in the bottom of the dishwasher when I run a dishes cycle. This seems to clean out the pipes, which I have found improves overall performance. Our Bosch also likes to have its filter rinsed once a week, and demands machine care if we don't. I am murderously hateful towards my dishwasher and spent a lot of time figuring out how to make it function in a way that doesn't make me want to take a sledgehammer to it. Lol.

@@rachelboothroyd208Fellow Australian with a Bosch too - we used to use Fairy - they cleaned exceptionally well but they ruined our silicone items. We use Logix too. Tried Finish and they were rubbish. Haven’t tried the Euca powder, Google tells me it’s a laundry powder??
@rachelboothroyd208
@rachelboothroyd208 4 ай бұрын
@architecturaldream1 if you have a look at the Euca website, you'll see that they have a bunch of products, one being dishwasher powder. I actually emailed them after I tried Euca and found my dishes weren't dry at the end of the cycle (they say not to use rinse aid with their dishwasher powder). They told me that Bosch dishwashers demand rinse aid to function properly, and they were the ones who recommended the Coles rinse aid. Pairing this with the Euca powder did improve things, but still didn't give dry enough dishes, hence the Logix tablets. Before I started popping Euca into the bottom of the dishwasher every so often (I still use the Logix tab in the dispenser when I do this), I would find that I'd get to a point where my dishes were coming out clean but greasy. The Bosch tech said that unclean pipes will do that, so it seems Euca cleans out the pipes as it claims to do. Have tried the Euca rinse aid, and sadly it doesn't dry the dishes like the Coles one does. Best of luck with your future dishwashing endeavours!

You must live in a area that has lots and lots of water. Living in California it would never enter my mind to 'run' my faucet until it got warm before starting my dishwasher. Nor, would I ever dream of using my dishwasher unless it was full. I would just fill it, wash the dishes, take the clean dishes away, then put the remaining dishes in the dishwasher and wait until it was full and start it the next day. We really all have enough dishes to get through a whole day without using all that water twice a day.

I'm not 100% sure, but I imagine I'm not far off. If somebody puts out content that helps you, and you're going to make content based off what they taught you, then it's just generally good manners to shout them out and put some links in your description. That's what you would want if somebody watched your video and learned something, right? I think that's just good KZbin etiquette. It's also just the best practice when it comes to documentation. Cite your sources. But, I ain't hating. Glad to see the word getting out. Much love.

In your installation guide for your Bosch dishwasher. You are adviced, not to install it to a hot water tap. On your dishwashers left side, you have a freshwater container . Your surroundings heats up the water i the container, so that the dishwasher only needs to heat up the water from room temperature to whatever temperature you have choosen. Please do rinse your filter and sprayarms at least once a month. And don’t forget to descale your dishwasher too. Kind regards Bosch dishwasher repairguy for 25 years😊😊😊
