it does my heart good to see a Dad that let's his son watch him work. The most important thing i learned in life is as you said "do it if even if you don't know what you are doing" The biggest thing about repairing something is the ability to tear in to it.

Thank you sirs! My wife threw a bunch of clothes with beach sand in them and the washer wouldn't drain or spin. I followed your video, took out the pump, and sure enough, pebbles everywhere. Cleaned it all out, hooked everything back up and BAM! Washer is back to normal. You are a life saver! 🙏

Wonderful!!! ❤ just loved this video, especially because you two are amazing👏. I came here by accident... Today, my neighbor asked me if I had a dolly. I said, yes, I have one. He needed to unloade a new washing machine he had just bought to replace this same model. I helped him take the old one out and put it out on the street for someone to pick it up and take it. After helping him bring the new one and hooking it up, I asked if I could take the old one, and he said yes. I brought it to my drive way, two houses up, and looked up videos to replace the drain pump. I followed your steps and it turned out that the pump was filled with sediment and was obstructing it from turning. I cleaned it up and put it back together. I texted my neighbor to come by and run a test. Viola, it works again! He is saving $500.00 + dollars. I told him it was my X-Mas gift. Love your video. Now I'm subscribed. God bless you guys!!!

My washer was a different model, and I cleaned out both the drain pump and the pump that recirculates the water from bottom to top. The drain pump was fine but the other was full of sand and tiny pebbles. Cleared it out and now it works like it’s brand new! And that paperwork they hide under the machine is a treasure trove of good info for diagnostics. Thanks for your video - it really helped me out!

Hi Benjamin, where is the recirulating pump?
@bentigano
@bentigano 2 жыл бұрын
@@janicehammond1335 If you flip the machine on it's side to access underneath, you'll see it at the bottom. You'll see one house going from the bottom of the drum into the pump, and another hose coming out of the pump and going back up to the top of the drum. That's it. Google "ge washer recirculation pump" and you'll see some good pictures of what it looks like. Just make sure you make a mental note of what came out so you can easily put it back in the same way. I've still had no problems with my washer since I cleaned out that pump - runs like the day we bought it.

This video saved me like $600!! I had called the store to have them hold a washer for me until the following day when I would be able to get a truck. Laying in bed at night and still wondering who I could get to help me, I decided to watch a few more videos when I came across this. I was a little unsure about if it would work for me, because I had been watching other videos and trying so many other things and nothing worked…this seemed like too easy of a fix, but very much to my surprise this video solved my problem!!! I was worried because when I plugged the washer back in, it made a sound like it was when it is washing, but nothing else happened…after I reset the washer (hold the pause button while dialing counterclockwise 7 times) and going through the error codes, it said sensing/fill for about 15 minutes, while periodically making clicking noises…then, everything finally clicked and it started working!!!! Yay!!!!

Thank you for posting this! My washer wasn’t spinning or draining. It took me almost 3 hours. I had to disassemble the drain pump twice because I didn’t put in the large ring in the right way and it leaked everywhere, but once I fixed that, it’s now spinning and draining. Thanks again.

Very helpful thanks. Suggestions for anyone else doing this job: 1) you can drain the water through the drain hose into a bucket. if you put the hose end low it will start a siphon. After it will no longer siphon, the last bit is tricky but by lifting up the hose from the washer side (without disconnecting) I was able to get most of the water out of the hose. I had way less than a hand towel of water spill out 2) You can skip removing the little panel in back, just tip up the machine and disconnect the hose from the pump 3) keep the pump away from your phone it is very magnetic 4) that piece of paper he pulled out has a lot of useful instructions on how to do diagnostics on the washing machine - treat it like gold lol 5) if you are starting to see rust inside the top cover of the machine, that needs to be addressed, before a large chunk of it falls off and breaks off the impeller of your pump - at least that is what happened to me. I had already fixed the rust but these parts were left over inside I didn't realize it.

I'm so grateful for you, your son, and this video tonight- thank you so much! I have family coming into town tonight and had a bunch of bedding to wash during the day when all of a sudden it stopped draining. I was in tears, and felt helpless after trying to read the technician's manual with all those impossible error code tests. Your easy-going way made me feel confident enough to give this a try, and it worked! I'm on my third load of laundry! But even if it hadn't worked for my issue, it definitely still turned my attitude around. Your son is VERY bright. He's right about the magnets, btw, that's how coasters like the Top Thrill Dragster goes from 0 to 120 in 4 seconds. He also asks very gifted questions. Together with the character and temperament he's learning from your demonstration, that kid's really going places- I'm calling it now (so remember me when he invents a breathing apparatus for Mars vehicles or something).

I was able to siphon the water out since my laundry room is near the back door so I didn't have to drag out the shop vac. SAND!!! Similar problem. Sand from beach. This video was spot on. Two tips: need to fully wash out all sand - took our machine outside w pump removed and throughly washed out w lawn hose. Had so much sand ( several grandkids bathing suits) it jammed twice more after initial fix. Applied synthetic grease to disk perimeter and edge of pump housing to seal out any additional sand. Works fine now. But make sure all mud,, sand dirt is first we moved from clothes to avoid a lot of work, or expense.

Man, my lady was trying to get me to get a new one. I never messed with a washer before. Same exact thing. Some dirt in the fins just enough the magnets wouldnt spin. I took the pump thing off and washed it in the sink with water as i manually spun it with a screwdriver. Then sprayed some kano and did the same thing. At first i could feel it was a little rough with sand or something. Apparently just enough to keep the magnets from spinning it. I thought it was a burnt out motor. I didnt know it was run off magnets. It was actually pretty easy. The hardest part was dealing with water in the washer trying not to get it on the floor. Anyways thanks for the video. Exact same thing

I have the exact same washer, and it's cut out a couple of times. Now that I know how easy it is to get to the parts, and that it's straight forward enough, I think I can do this in the morning, and still get out of the house by the afternoon. ;) My washer is doing the exact same thing you said yours was doing, but I think MY problem is due to pet hair and stuff getting into the pump and messing things up. We don't throw that kind of heavy soil stuff into the wash. My fear was that this was going to be a MASSIVE expensive replacement, but, seems like a couple quarters worth of a fix.

What a helpful video, my machine Is only one year and seven months old and this morning when it was time to spin and drain I heard an awful sound from downstairs. Being very handy I took the model number to you tube and this popped up. I used the shop vac like you did and once I sucked air tipped the machine forward to lean on a wall. What I changed from what I saw was I laid on the floor, put a pan under the pump in case I was wrong and I unclipped the magnet assembly, let it hang and removed the pump so I didn’t need to bother with the drain tube. The motor spun just fine but I looked towards the pump body and there was a piece of metal stuck in there that was stopping the impeller from spinning. I have no idea if it was from a pocket along the way or if something in the machine came apart. It’s back together and working just like before. One thing to mention is make sure the big o-ring is on the pump before reassembling or you’ll find it like me and do it twice haha. Take pictures before you take any of it apart to be sure of placement and screw locations. Thank you again, your son also did a great job!

I live in southwest FL and I have a lab, so I got a lot of sand and dog hair. I figure this is what's wrong with mine, so I'm going to give this a shot and see if it works.

This worked for me too! thanks for making the video, was nice to have the encouragement, hard to believe that just cleaning the pump out is enough to fix this issue. Appreciate the designers making this part serviceable though. btw this is the first thing that's ever made me want to have a kid haha

I took the drain pump off just like you did and removed the white hose housing. The pump doesn't spin like yours and I couldn't remove it from the magnetic part to clean it. You didn't show how you cleaned it. But washed both parts off; still doesn't spin. I'm assuming the drain pump it is bad. I wondered where the recirculating pump is located; maybe it needs cleaning too???? Thank you for sharing your experience; it gave me the courage to try to fix it.
