If pot isn't on stove it shouldn't heat up, well my son managed to leave stove on all night and it was still going next morning yet I can no longer can my freaking pickles. It won't boil unless it's a tiny pot and yet it burns food on medium low and simmers/ low boils at lowest temp by itself when it decides to heat up more than the knob tells it too. Only in America do they sell appliances in 2022 that belong in 1962. Stoves that are basically an exposed heating coil, dishwashers with exposed elements that will melt plastic, washers and dryers that haven't evolved from the 60s. No wonder there's so many house fires in the US relative to population and the fact it's a "developed" country. I know there are advanced options there like basically any modern country but why do they still sell old inefficient dangerous crap, they seem too scared to phase it out. The bargain basement home appliances in Australia would probably be sold as midrange at worst in the US, because they know they can peddle ancient crap at the entry level price point there.

@@elguapo5467 Stoves are inherently dangerous. There is a reason your not supposed to leave the stove unattended. It doesn't matter if the stove is gas, electric, or induction. All devices don't have to be "child proof" or 100% safe to use. If you had ever worked in in an industrial setting or the trades you'd understand this. Most power tools, machine tools, and heavy equipment can maim or kill you if you use them wrong. People understand this. These so called "Safety Burners" do not work. You can't even boil water on them. What good is the stove then? Don't use the stove if your that afraid. UL, as they are commonly known, made it so the coils will not heat up because they were concerned about grease fires. UL was NOT concerned about blue flame gas stoves and the potential there for grease fires. SO upon learning how screwed up modern ranges are these days we just decided to KEEP our old stove. @vicgalante4 жыл бұрын
I just installed a new GE range (model JB258DM1WW) with these Sensi-Temp coils today. I then put on a large pot of water to make pasta. Just as I saw tiny bubbles start to form in the pot (no way near a boil, mind you), the coil cycled off. Shortly after it must have restarted and a few minutes later my water was boiling. In went the salt and pasta. About half way through the cooking process, with the water at a proper full boil, the coil cycled off again. I watched as ALL of the bubbles subsided and my pasta was just sitting still in a bath of warm water. About 60 seconds later, the coil cycled back on and cooking resumed until the pasta was fully cooked. This performance in unacceptable. Before my 30-day return policy expires I'll be searching for a solution to "defeat" this Sensi-temp technology. With the overwhelming number of complaints out there I'm sure that someone has devised a solution...possibly a ceramic disk permanently affixed to the sensor will keep the sensor below it's turn-off point of 450°F

Oh GE! Give it a rest already with the "perhaps your pots are not flat on the bottom" BS! I have a cast iron skillet that will not warp anytime in the next 12 centuries! Now for a solution, since I rent, and cannot return my stove, I went to canadian tire and bought coils made for fridgidaire, maytag and whirlpool pre 1994 models, by a company called laser, the coils sit almost completely flat, totally flat when a pot of water is on top, and pasta boils in 10 minutes like it's supposed to. My food no longer sticks to the bottom, because I am able to maintaina consistent temperature, my meat is cooked through now too and my family is no longer at risk of food poisoning due to unsafe internal temperature of meats attempting to be thoroughly cooked with sensi temp burners. And bonus folks, I can fry french fries and chicken wings again! Hope this helps someone, because I was going nuts, and my family was starving!

I think it's dawning on me why they're subjecting the masses to this annoyance. Insurance companies are facing all time high losses. They know you can't cook with this crap. They know you get hungry. They know that you'll be tempted to bypass the sensors or switch out the coil burners, but if you do, and you have a grease fire, they won't cover the loss. On top of it, the underbody of the stove top (the large flat area beneath the burners) is so thinly made I doubt it could withstand the heat of a regular burner without soon buckling anyway. Now when you add the fact that most of these stoves lack an enamel finish under the drip pans, this thin gauge bare metal will rust even thinner in no time. A win for the insurance industry, they collect your premium and reduce or eliminate one of their risks, and a win for the appliance manufacturers who can now safely give you the thinnest metal in their builds. Folks you can get four $20 electric skillets and cook meals. I stupidly just got rid of my 2003 Kenmore. It had a beautiful and thick enamel finish inside and out, but I wanted stainless steel. Stupid stupid me!! Oh how I wish I hadn't gotten rid of my Kenmore.

"This button must contact the bottom of the cookware for the coil to work properly". This is the sort of wording I'm finding everywhere for this Seni-Temp tech. What I'm not finding ANYWHERE is, if I have no cookware on the coil/sensor, what is supposed to happen? My thinking is, if there is no pot on the burner, then the burner won't heat up at all. If I'm cooking, and remove the pot or pan, the burner should shut off. But I found out tonight that this is NOT what happens. At least, not with the one I have. I went back into the kitchen after about 20 minutes to find that the burner was still on and super hot and there was nothing on the burner. No pot. No pan. Just a whole lot of heat. Is that supposed to happen? Does anyone know where I can find a definitive answer?
@geappliances Жыл бұрын
Hi, Dave. Thanks for reaching out to us. You've asked a great question, and we are happy to help. Each burner with this technology has a silver medallion with a button (sensor) in the center of the coil. This button must make contact with the bottom of the cookware for the Sensi-Temp Technology to sense the temperature properly. When the sensor detects a pan temperature near the limit (450 degrees F), the burner will shut off automatically until a lower, safe pan temperature is reached. At that point, the burner will resume heating. This will not affect everyday cooking as the automatic shut-off is temporary and only happens at a very high temperature. Please note that stove top cooking is an attended function. The Sensi-Temp technology is NOT intended to automatically shut off the burner. When a Sensi-Temp burner has been turned on, it will continue to heat even after a pan has been removed, and until the knob have been set to the OFF position. If any other questions arise, please feel free to contact us. Thanks! JP

Have had three quit working the last several months on a three year old GE stove in one of my rental units. Large family that cooks big meals several times a day. I bought GE manufactured elements, as replacements not those knock offs found on Amazon. They are expensive. They were right at $80 a piece at the locally owned appliance parts store. They are not found in the big box hardware stores. Nor will those older type elements fit either. Tried that. These Sensi-Temp have a thermo disc switch in the center of the element. It will open if the temp exceeds a defined temperature setpoint. When the burner element temp drops or is turned off. This disc switch will reset. After time it will not reset. I took a failed one to my workshop and got open the cover under the thermo disc enclosure and confirmed this switch was an open circuit and would not reset.

Hi there! When the sensor detects a pan temperature near the limit (450 degree Fahrenheit), the burner will shut off automatically until a lower, safe pan temperature is reached. At that point, heat will resume to the burner. During the temporary automatic shut-off: 1. The burner will cycle ON (bright red) and OFF (dark) to maintain safe cooking temperatures. 2. When cycling OFF, the burner retains enough heat to continue cooking. The burner will cycle back ON automatically. 3. This cycling will continue during the entire cooking time. I'm shopping for a new range and just found out about these burners from reading reviews that good people have posted on appliance manufacturer's web sites. Now I find out that new government regulations have made it so that new ranges won't boil water. This is the exact reason I'm shopping for a new range. For the past eleven years I've put up with what was a brand new glass top range that won't boil water for a pound of pasta. We have to boil water with a counter top induction burner. It's a bother storing it, and further in order to get it beneath the range hood we have to put it on the range top and then we can't use two of the range burners. It seems now if you want to boil water the choices are more expensive gas or induction cook top ranges. We use to have good things, and we made good things, the best burners were the Frigidaire thick coil models from the 1960's. Forget ever having the simplicity of cooking on those again. I make the effort to be "Green" in reasonable ways, but I've now learned that energy saving equipment and conservation efforts have reached a point of crazy. Since we're now down to a point that range burners are being limited of exactly what they're supposed to do, I say it's time to implement emergency measures of population control. If you think I'm nuts take a deeper look at what's going on. There aren't any other answers as the population keeps building up and surpassing every new green regulation. If we could just get the population down we wouldn't have to do much in the way of "Green" or put up with things that don't work right. Don't misunderstand me, I love babies, but we're in trouble and not many seem to be noticing. I'll add another example, currently we're paying about $3500 in the cost of a brand new car just for the emission controls. My point here is anyone that digs deeper into all we're doing to get the planet into a state of "Green" will come to the conclusion that it just gets wasted by out of control population. We need to be looking at that and not more annoying regulations making life more costly and harder than it has to be.
@PumkinPeanut4 жыл бұрын
the sensitemp technology was to prevent oil grease fires by turning off & on not designed to use less electricity. nothing to do with 'green' or population growth. not sure what country you are in but some countries are even losing population due to couples not having enough to replace themselves; they are in serious trouble. we don't need to kill ourselves off to have a better stove. But I share your frustration, I'm also in the market for a new electric stove and am trying to find out if they sensi-temp burners can be replaced with regular ones. If so I may consider buying one. But GE reply says they can't. Not sure if this is true with other brands too. If so, that means I have to look on Craigslist for a "new" stove if I want one. (or else switch to flat top or gas, both of which I did not want)

4 years in from this vid, I will add my two cents to the crowd of furious sensi-temp owners. I just bought a new home that has one. Had no idea it existed, had company over for lobster dinner on Labor Day weekend (I live in Maine), and you guessed it - the poor lobsters had a very hot sauna but after 40 minutes had not even turned completely red. Tragic! For the lobsters, especially. The burner kept going on and off. So I turned all the burners on and just kept sliding them to the next. I had to pick out all the lobsters the next day and saute them. We ate burgers. Buying new coils or a ceramic cooktop range.

LOL don't give them ideas! :) I think this about GE trying to use the UL to kill coil stoves. The big appliance companies bought up most of the brands, and now all they sell is stuff that breaks after a few years. They probably believe they can keep people coming back with bells and whistles, and the reputation they're ruining. When there's no competition, companies cheat customers as much as possible. The last thing they want is a tough stovetop and easy to replace burners. So all these angry comments are exactly what they're looking for.

Please be sure you are using a flat cookware and that it isn't warped in any way. Sensi-Temp technology use a sensor to reduce the risk of cooking fires. If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are happy to help! JW

How are you supposed to boil water when there are water advisories you have to disinfect things I mean this is very odd having this system.

Hi - thanks for checking with us! The sensi-temp range coil elements would not affect your everyday cooking performance. It is important, however, that you use pans with a flat bottom. We hope this helps! -NC

I am very disappointed with this new sensi-temp coil range I just purchased a month ago. I have never owned a GE product and now I'm thinking of selling them and buying something better. I do lots of canning. I have notice that my canner is not holding it's pressure because of this technology. The only way I'm able to have the canner hold somewhat the pressure without going below the pressure needed, I have to have the heat to the maximum. That is more dangerous than having a regular coil. I am considering getting regular coils. With a regular coil, when my pressure is reached, I can bring down the heat between 8 and 7 for the rest of the processing time. Thumbs down for this technology. Technology is not always good!

Won’t start fires... also won’t sear a steak, pan fry a fish without it going soggy, stir fry anything, make crispy bacon etc. But You can boil water...so there’s that.

No doubt investors are also loosing confidence like customers in GE!

Thanks for reaching out! Flat-bottomed pans are recommended for Sensi-Temp burners so that the pan remains in contact with the middle of the burner. Let us know if you have any other questions. - JB

Absolutely HATE the sensi-temp coils. Try boiling pasta. The hard boil must be maintained but these stupid senders lower the temperature so the pasta turns out gummy. Forget trying to cook jellies, candy or fudge at Christmas. This was a crappy idea. The person who doesn't mind his cooking will find another way to burn down the house. And I'm not spending $700 on new cookware.

This is a pain in the butt!!! I just put a pan of eggs on to boil & just as the water was reaching the boiling point, my burner turned off. I was supposed to bring it to a boil, then let the eggs sit covered in the water for 9 min. It took 9 min to bring the water to a full boil! Will the eggs be done or did I just waste a dozen eggs??????????? I HATE these burners!!!
@geappliances Жыл бұрын
Hello Kathi- We can understand your concern. It typically takes only 8 minutes for a firmly hard-boiled egg. We hope your eggs turned out alright. Starting in 2018, UL (Underwriter's Laboratory) regulations require all electric coil top ranges to have temperature limiting capabilities to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. As a result, our electric coil burners now use Sensi-Temp Technology. This will not affect everyday cooking as the automatic shut-off is temporary and only happens at a very high temperature.Please note that stovetop cooking is an attended function. The Sensi-temp technology is NOT intended to automatically shut-off the burner. When a Sensi-Temp burner has been turned on, it will continue to heat even after a pan has been removed, and until the knob have been set to the OFF position. Take a look at the following link to view more information: spklr.io/6050m9Tu We hope this is helpful. If you have any other questions, please let us know. We are happy to help! JW

@@geappliances no, my hard boiled eggs were not cooked enough & were wasted. The pan was full of water & eggs. So it was heavy. The past was the size of the burner. The bottom of the pan is flat & contacts the coils fully. How can the temp exceed 450 degrees when the water didn't even boil? Is almost reached a boil when the burner turned from red to black and the bubbles that were starting to surface stopped. This is not a one time occurrence! It happens all the time. I try taking the pan off the burner. And repositioning it and any other potential solution I can think of. And I'm standing right there cooking or I would not notice that the temperature decreases. I even try turning the cooking temp lower than "high" in hopes that a lower temp will eventually come to a boil. Sometimes it does, sometimes I give up!! Like I say, a pain in the butt!! Certainly does not foster "the joy of cooking!!"

Hi Kathi- We are sorry to hear your eggs were not cooked properly and wasted. This is not what we expect to hear and will share your comments and feedback with our engineering and design teams. We have found that cast iron and pans with flat bottoms work the best to keep the button engaged. If you continue to have issues and feel like there is something wrong, we recommend taking advantage of your warranty and reach out to GE Consumer Service at 1-800-432-2737. Thank you! JW

This is the worst stove i have ever had the misfortune of being forced to use. This thing can barely boil water and the “safe temperature” range rules out any home cooking techniques outside of “slowly cook everything until its rubber and take quadruple the time to do it”. It trades “safe” temps for unsafe and improperly cooked food.

The Most stupid Idea ever!! When I want to boil Pasta it takes over 45 minutes instead of 15 minutes using this technology. The burner shuts down and the water stops boiling, then it resumes after the temperature drops. It cycles on and off about 20 times.... BOILING DAMN WATER...... Can I have my OLD natural gas stove back please.....

Hello. We appreciate you reaching out, though we truly hate to hear you’ve had issues with it taking longer than expected to boil water. Our Sensi-Temp technology is a safety feature integrated into our coil design to reduce the risk of unattended cooking fires and meet updated safety standards. We would not expect this to affect everyday cooking, as the automatic shut-off is temporary and is only meant to occur at very high temperatures. We regret any inconvenience you’ve had. If you think the burner isn’t working correctly, we do have an article discussing what you can check, linked here: spklr.io/6059c3xJ . We hope that is helpful. If you continue to have trouble, you’re welcome to reach out to us with a private message over our social media (such as Twitter or Facebook) providing your model number; we’d be glad to look into this further. We’re also glad to help with any other concerns or questions you may have. Best wishes. -SG
