I'll try to answer the heartbeat/drum questions you had (no manga spoilers ofc) The "drums of liberation" that zou talks about is luffy's literal heartbeat. When entering gear 5, luffy's heart rhythmically beats as the drums of liberation. So the drums that started to play when luffy went back into gear 5 wasn't just background music, it was his heart literally getting back into the rhythm of the drums of liberation. About the whole "laughing less as time goes on" thing. I don't think that actually means anything. The best I can come up with is that gear 5 apparently is very draining and luffy was basically dead right before awakening, so he wouldn't have much stamina. We don't know that much about gear 5's full capabilities or limits as of now, so thats about all I've got without spoiling the manga

the fruit that luffy ate is a type of zoan fruit which is the highest of all like you're the GOD and this devil fruit is really the most powerful of all specially this fruit can be use on what the user will imagine that why you see luffy can throw a fire like ACE because it's his imagination. luffy is not really in a full coppntrol yet of this fruit but when he do know all of this it will be the end of all his opponent.

Personally I loved the Gear 5 reveal, Gear 2 is still my favorite just because nothing will re-capture that "holy sh#" moment for me HOWEVER for a modern-day transformation 10/10 for me for sure

idk if you saw online at all, but recently it was revealed in one of Oda's original gear 5 sketches there was a note that said "The more he laughs, the stronger he gets". I guess it was just the exhaustion kicking in for a moment, but he got back into rhythm (quite literally lol) and had fun with it. I suppose the opposite could be true then, if he's not laughing or having fun (exhausted) he could become weaker. But I'm not caught up on the manga for his recent usage of gear 5, so I'm just guessing.

The beat is his heartbeat. Basically gear 5 has a weird heart beat which is also known as the drum of liberation. Similarly, to ACTIVATE and maintain gear 5 he needs to have that heartbeat. Also gear5 is ridiculous but not as op as u think, u need to understand that luffy has also reached emperor level mastery and quality of haki which he is using with gear 5 in this fight, without haki gear5 wouldnot be strong. The laughter is basically luffy having fun AND the will of the fruit affecting him, basically speaking if ur will is weak and you awaken any zoan fruit there is a risk of the user being devoured by the will of the fruit(eg- demon guards of impel down). Here luffy's will is strong but its still affecting him a little which makes him laugh like a maniac, but of course its also because he is having fun. And his head and body is being warped by kaido's attack because he is absorbing the shock from the attack by his rubberiness thus reducing the damage taken.

To answer your joyboy question, so far only Z zunesha seem to be calling him joyboy, and as we know zunesha has been around for a very long time, so him and the actual joyboy might have been friends or comrades 800 years ago. This all coincides with around the void century which also began 900 years ago. So joyboy might have been an actual person (or thing) but it seems like zunesha only recognizes the drums that luffys heartbeat gives off, off his fruits awakening, so joyboy might have been the past user of luffys fruit PS. Luffy has been around zunesha already and zunesha did not recognize him as joyboy at all so it’s most likely because of his fruit awakening that makes him recognized as such. But for us watchers and readers, we figure that luffys connection to joyboy might run deeper than them having similar fruit powers, because luffys character kinda matches up with the name joyboy

Right, I am following that, but it seems like Joyboy's spirit is like intertwined with the fruit (?). I remember that Luffy was around Zunesha so I can understand the past not seeing him as JB, but everyone is feeling this different aura after the awakening that's making Luffy unrecognizable, as if Luffy is gone, and something else has taken over.

@@TooPiece In a way, yes, it’s like something else has taken over luffy. But all in all, it’s still luffy. If you remember, after Sabo ate Aces fire fruit, it was like ace was now apart of sabo, as sabo instinctively knew how ace would have wielded that power, and who his enemies were, etc. The anime did kinda hint at this where we see ace by sabos side when he’s using the fruit. There are many other instances where it seems like some fruits either enhances a characters personality, or a fruit might have a will of it’s own, probably passed down from past users. As explained in the last episode by the five elder stars, zoan fruits seem to have a will of their own, as the ‘gum gum fruit’, might have been evading the government for the last 800 years. If that’s the case then joyboy might have really been the last user of the fruit, and luffy might have inherited his will. Also keep in mind that it’s not joyboy that the fruit is named after, but a sun god called nika, which might have earned joyboy his nickname because of the effects of the fruit. In a way it’s not joyboy that’s making luffy this way, but the natural effects of awakening the sun god fruit. So if joyboy was an awakened user as well, it explains why zunesha would recognize luffy as joyboy. Joyboys will doesn’t only connect to the fruit, but also goes all the way back to fishman island. Luffy being a reincarnation of joyboy has been a theory for a very long time, because he seem to have played a very big role in the void century, and luffy seem to be the one to pick up the pieces that joyboy couldn’t put together. In a way, similar to how luffy seem to share a lot of similarities with Roger, where you can say he inherited rogers will.

@@TooPiece Like the Gorosei pointed out, Zoan fruits seem to have a will of their own. The general hypothesis that people have is that the 'Gum-Gum Fruit' is attracted to people who share in Nika's personality. Meaning that Luffy and the previous Joyboy share a kindred spirit in that they are fun-loving goofballs who want to be free, and the Gum-Gum Fruit was drawn to them as a result. It also means that not everyone can become "Joyboy" or awaken the fruit. Only someone like Luffy or Joyboy, who are properly in the right state of mind whilst also achieving that level of power, can awaken Nika's power.

I think the thing people haven't really noticed yet is that this is just the beginning. It was just 5th Gears debut which was powerful enough to allow Luffy,who was on the brink of death to absolutely wash Kaido (A YONKO) and we still have no idea what he is truly capable of.

In terms of strength, Kaido was still superior. Luffy's Gear 5 has just been awakened, he is very low on stamina and basically just been revived from the dead. Luffy won because he has stronger willpower and many friends to support him. But mastered Gear 5 would absolutely washed Kaido to the ground (haha get it).

I don’t think Luffy is *literally* Joyboy. Mainly because the big theme of Luffy’s character and ambition is all about freedom. He can’t be truly free if he’s being taken over by someone else. The Gorosei also mention in 1071 that Zoan types seem to “have a will of their own.” And they could never get their hands on it. Just imo this all suggests the fruit kind of chose Luffy because it was a good match. Devil fruit awakenings don’t happen easily or very often, and he’s the first to awaken this one in 800 years. Which also explains Zunesha being able to “hear” Joyboy. What he really recognizes are the drums (Luffy’s heartbeat) that are necessary for G5. I’m sure if Zunesha has another convo with Luffy after this, he’ll say the same thing he did to Kaido lol. Basically “what? I’m just me, Luffy” anywayssss this episode was great 🥹

I think Luffy's new power works on several levels. 1. It defies reality, and things that would kill a less "real" character, is suspended due to the comical nature of Gear 5's god-like power. 2. Because you can't die, everything Luffy does, playing jump rope with your body, shooting his hands through your eyeballs, is like being put through excruciating pain you cannot escape from through death, you gotta just experience it. This also shames and shatters his enemy's world view and sense of self importance/value. 3. Luffy is the "God of Liberation", and signals revolution. Having a leader that seems oppressively all powerful crush's people's ability to rise up. Luffy making that oppressor look like a joke, gives the people hope and strength to fight. 4. He is an anime equivalent of political cartoons ridiculing world leaders.

It's really exciting to see the G5 Luffy VS Kaido fight. When it comes to silliness, Luffy is the winner. Oda once said, "no matter how serious One Piece's story is in the future, Luffy will still be ridiculous" Old viewers will understand. Luffy's enemies think he is not serious. yes sir, its funny when all the villain think luffy is not serious , but he is serious when his fighting. and with that kind of reaction from the villain, somehow the villain drop they're guard down and luffy just take that as a advantage ..... Let me clear some gear 5 facts for you 1 .momo said his voice is fading away coz when he changes into gear 5 his heartbeat becomes the drum of liberation so his heart becomes a mix of drums and normal luffy heartbeat 2. Is he a joyboy? No the joyboy was a nika fruit user 800 years ago who used gear 5 and that person was a joyboy zhuneshas crew mate . 3 he dies while using gear 5 no his heartbeat changes he feels free with that music . 4. Zoan fruits have their will so that's a one more similarity between luffy and joyboy

Luffy isn't a reincarnation neither is housing spirit of joyboy by any means. What Zunesha recognized, was the heartbeat which it've heard only 800 hundreds years ago coming from joyboy. What that means, is that before Luffy, the only person to have ever awakened the Hito-Hito no Mi Model Nika, was joyboy. Maybe there is actual similarities between Luffy and Joyboy, after all the Zoan fruit can choose their owners, so who knows! But with all we've got now, that's the only actual connection between Joyboy and Luffy even in the manga.

Luffy doesn’t seem to know the real details of his fruit. He could and just hasn’t said it like he never said he knew roger was aces dad or that he had gear 4 and snake man since the time skip. I personally don’t think he knows or really would care, he just does what he wants, the fruit probably chose him to awaken (they said it hasn’t in 800 years) because of his dream and personality so it probably doesn’t matter if he knows because he plans to do what nika (or joyboy idk) would want. It seems the only reasons Zunisha thought he was joyboy is because his heart beats with the drums of liberation like joyboy since it is the same power of sun god nika. When luffy says it’s the beat he wanted I’m pretty sure it’s because he forced his heart to start beating at full force again (best moment in the episode btw)
