So there was a lot of stuff that wasn't covered in the video that we forgot to touch on. For that, I apologize! We said screw it and pretty much just went with the flow and recorded the video. Here are some things we still wanted to address. Patrol Gloves: PJ and i both wear the Magpul Technical gloves and LOVE THEM! They are slim enough to search with, and we have no problems shooting with them. Mic placement: The mics are placed on our support so we can shoulder our rifles without accidentally activating our PTT. Radio placement: The radio is also placed on our support side so we can still key the PTT on the radio in case our Mic fails. Magazine placement: We have one mag on our belt and one on our rifle for many reasons. Whether for reloading in unconventional positions or if I get injured. If the vest comes off, I still have a source of ammo on my belt. Mainly because having the single mag on the belt allows for an unobstructed reload vs. if I had two mags on the belt. (easier to grab without the other mag next to it) Medical gear: I keep a water-tight evidence bag in my left cargo pocket with chest seals, packing gauze, and a bandage. Knives: I carry a knife that I have no idea who makes, lol. PJ that has a protec whisker. Leg straps: They are fantastic for keeping the gun attached to the leg but are a double-edged sword. The leg strap can introduce some issues while seated in a patrol vehicle. The leg strap keeping your holster pinned makes the holster point toward your knee, which can present some problems drawing the weapon while seated. If you do not have the leg strap, the holster stays in line with your hips and goes down towards your seat belt, allowing for a more straight up and down draw while seated. I've also run into issues while on long tracks due to the strap adding more tension to my right leg to the point where my right leg works harder than my left.

Glad I finally found some time to watch this one. Looking at becoming an officer in WA as well, really cool to see how you guys have your gear set up. Not sure exactly what department I’ll end up at but hopefully they’ll be lenient in allowing me to configure my patrol gear how I want to. Cheers and stay safe out there fellas.

I appreciate this video, and hope you continue to make this sort of content more often in the future to give us insights over what you and others use and how/how yall use them. It is very helpful and informative, and I cant get enough of it. I found you through your first colab video with Garand Thumb, and that video was the first time Id ever seen someone with a TQ mounted to the front of their handgun holster. Literally paused that video so I could look into that set up more, and brother Ive been running a holster mounted TQ on my duty rig ever since. I actually remember thinking "Wow, yea, thats literally just a bunch of unused empty real estate. This is an awesome idea.". Im a smaller framed guy, so belt space is limited (especially if I want to keep as much crap off my back as possible), and that completely changed how I started looking at how I set up my duty gear. I can honestly say that thanks to you, and of course a big thanks to my fellow Officer / Instructor who has given me several hours on the range to train and get better, that my perspective towards what I carry and how I carry it is so much better. Im more comfortable, Ive been able to bring gear to the fight that otherwise would have been sitting in the car or in a bag somewhere, and Ive also invested in making sure to get quality items that I used to just go "standard issue" with. You've also played a big role in getting me to pay more attention to constantly evaluate my set up and what Im running, and every once in a while when I get an idea for how I might change my particular set up for potentially more benefit I go ahead and try it out to see if it works or not. As a result of all of this, I feel more professional and ready for the job, Ive received several complements from other Officers both in and out of my agency and from folks such as retired LE and vets for how well Im put together, and I can honestly say that on at least 2 separate occasions decisions Ive made due to your influence have saved my life and the life of one of our brothers. So thank you for what you do, and please keep it coming for the folks like me who are ready to study and learn and evolve. Sending my love from Texas

Must be nice. at my agency we all have to have the same duty belt (leather velcro safariland), same vest carriers, same attachments on vests, etc... its nice to see agencies that are more modern and forward thinking in terms of letting its officers get and use the gear to helps them with their job.

A note on the asp cuff holder if you take your cuffs off the holder and tighten just one cuff down one more notch it’ll stay. Also they will work with other brand cuffs. I love and hate the asp cuffs. The keyless double lock and keyholes on both sides are great but they’re kinda flimsy and I’ve had them go off of the track and get stuck. Also s&w makes oversized cuffs diameter wise that will get just as tight as the normal sized cuffs.

Same thing I thought! Years ago (late 80's) the agency I retired from allowed me to carry my own pistol, as they still issued revolvers. Then in the 90's they began issuing the Glock I was carrying and required everyone to carry the issued weapon. They allowed me to carry a third magazine on my duty belt and I also wore my own 3A body armor instead of the level 2 they issued. Other than that, we had to carry what they gave us.

A lot of guys carry spare batteries but your light never dies at a convenient time and you’re not going to be changing a battery during a search. I’ve found just having two of the same light on your rig is very useful. My second light comes in handy for other guys more often than it does for me. 😅

PJs problem with the Earmor headset is his PTT. For some reason, you gotta use the Earmor PTT. They advertise the headsets as working with nato wired PTTs but that’s not the case. Maybe you could reach out to someone like JCI Comms and see if he can play with the wiring on them so they work with other PTTs. ~ another Earmor user

I tried Velcro inner belt but went back to keepers. I felt it was more comfortable as I started carrying more gear like taser, additional mags, etc on my rig. The keepers seemed better for me cause it let the belt have a little room to breath and be not so rigid for when I get in and out of the car. I would run 5 keepers instead of just 4.

Great video. Thank God for the "gear dudes". All the old timers curse you, but we all know they are useless anyways. The only thing you can depend on them to do is dodge calls. To each their own, but hinge cuffs are the way to go. Fits the bigger dudes and gives and excellent point of leverage. That being said, this is coming from a dude that was retired from LE 18 years ago. The only thing that has changed is, well a lot has changed. LOL. The only one that I would consider a positive one is you guys have much cooler kit. We thought running a Colt AR with an Aimpoint Comp M2 and a Surefire (with a incandescent bulb) mounted to the barrel was the tip of the spear. Been running the 47 frame with 19 slide and PMM comp. Really dig it.

Im one of the old retired guys who had a vest under a shirt. I loved that outer vest carrier when I got to a specialized unit. But these are more like actual plate carriers without plates. How would you be able to put a hard rifle plate carrier over all that stuff? Also never carried a rifle mag on my duty belt or vest to save weight on my everyday rig and because I was also an old guy who ran a redi mag on my rifle to carry two mags immediately without thinking.
@andyfrist1957
@andyfrist1957 Жыл бұрын
So my agency uses the Bothell 2.0 from safariland. It carries my soft armor. It also has a separate pocket for plates. I run my ceramic plates inside my patrol carrier every day. It's more and more common to see guys running both on their outer carriers. Yes, it's heavier, and bulkier, but I ran a heavy carrier in the Marines for ten years, so I am used to it. I came in older, my days of running 7 or 8 minute miles after people are way past me now, so I don't sweat the weight. I like it because if I have to jump out on something crazy, I am not messing with a heavy vest or putting on any different gear, I just roll. And, AR's are very popular in my state, which I am all for. The side effect is the street shooters we have, and God knows we have a lot, are running AR pistols and rifles. It's not uncommon to find 5.56 on shooting scenes or chase a shots fired car and them be dumping three or four rifles out. It's so prevelant here I want rifle armor. On a side note, the ready mag is still very popular where I am. We can't have extra mag pouches for rifles on us by policy, so everyone buys the ready mag.

LEO here in a medium sized agency in California and it is slowly updating with the times in regards to allowing outer carriers and two piece belt systems. Out of curiosity, does your current setup have any good foot chases turned use of force? Asking because the earpiece looks sexy but I’ve gone through a handful of tubes from fights and I’ve lost mags with HSGI tacos (recovered after the fact.) And not sure how your agency does it but with the radio placement, how do you adjust your volume or switch to your secondary or auxiliary channel if there’s priority radio traffic on a call you’re not attached to? I’ve tried almost every placement for my radio but it always ends up nearly centerline on my carrier due to the frequency I have to change channels where I’m at.
