While cutting the video of the climb I noticed I did not stop the recording by accident. The Gopro just decided to split the clip into two files. So yeah ... This happens when you want to finish cutting in a hurry. I hope you like the video nevertheless! Thank you for watching.

Its a bummer that the new Petzl Basic doesn't have the clip in holes that let you secure the device around the rope (so that it can't pop off). I bought an older model so I wouldn't have to give up that crucial feature. Would have loved if I could have got the new one due to the low weight. Even though I'm using the Basic as part of a 2:1 Haul Ratchet and not for TR soloing, not having the dual clip in holes was a deal breakerThe Petzl Croll similarly doesn't have the dual clip holes at the top, just a single attachment hole. However it has been like that since it was first out. Need to grab one of those someday to try out some of the alternative ascending techniques using a Croll w/ a chest harness ( like the frog, it looks very speedy and efficient). Back when I got my first pair of Petzl Ascenders (late 90's) they had even more clip holes, there was a 3rd single hole next to the dual holes that secure the rope. The person who showed me how to set up my ascenders was an alpine climber and accustomed to Jumars I believe. He girth hitched a 30cm sling to the 3rd hole up top and ran the sling down the front of the frame of the ascender and threaded the sling through the clip in hole (attachment hole). So instead of clipping a carabiner to the ascender frame it would attach to the sling and avoid the metal on metal (mild) deformation at the bottom of the clip in hole. The next version with the smooth rubbery handles did away with the '3rd hole' unfortunately. Eventually I removed the slings and just clipped the carabiner to the ascender frame via the hole. I liked that method though, it was similar to rigging a Jumar. Only it wasn't as crucial to do it that way with the Petzl Ascension like it is with Jumars.

You mention using kevlar cordage for your anchors. What brand and diameter? Any thoughts on what one should be aware of using it? Thanks.

Did you try out the Wild Country Revo for lead solo climbing? Seems like it works well out of the box and even better when modified. I'm not too confident in the grigri for lead solo, I think it would not necessary catch a fall upside down? The silent partner seems to be a very nice device (big though) but is discontinued and sells on 800$+ on ebay.. :(

@ripperkon5 жыл бұрын
